This cafe turned out to be quite lovely, and certainly adds a lot of charm to the outer suburban town that happens to be Sunbury. First of all the service was great and the staff were quite warm and welcoming, oh and the pot of tea that they made me was also quite nice. However, the other thing that stands out with this place is the inner city charm that it has, a charm that has been transferred out here to Sunbury. Went there for birthday lunch with friend admittedly scorcher of a day... however we had to ask for our drinks 2x, my 'Thai style' chicken salad had little or no dressing and certainly no fish-sauce Thai favouring & we literally had to grab the wait staff to order a coffee. Upon the recommendation of a local, we came for coffee but enjoyed much more. The decor of polished concert floors and hessian coffee bag covered lights sounds pretentious but is actually tasteful hipster that invites everyone. The coffee was perfection and the truffled mushroom breakfast was a delight. The service was friendly and attentive. If you are ever in Sunbury, go to the Spotted Owl for breakfast. My favorite cafes in the area. This place has the best coffees in Sunbury and surrounds if you ask me. I've been around Sunbury over 10 years so it's nice to have a cafe that's tasteful but trendy, with a more adventurous menu than most of the standard places around. They serve cold drip coffee in the summer too. The staff have always been very friendly and attentive too. Spotted Owl can rival some of the better cafes around the city no problem. What lactose intolerant chai drinker wouldn't love a place that as a default uses Bonsoy to make their Chai lattes?? And that's not all, the all day breakfast options are expansive and they simultaneously serve from the lunch menu from 11am. A lovely surprise. In terms of first impressions, The Spotted Owl reminded me of Wide Open Road in Brunswick. Ordered cauliflower fritters & a bacon and provolone toastie. Both came fairly quickly, and were delicious. The coffee was good. Our kids were well catered for, with high chairs and a reasonably priced kids menu. read more

This is our regular go-to for coffee and breakfast. The food is top-quality and the staff are always very friendly and service is great!

Great little place. Found reviews on here and decided to give it a try. Quick wait for a table as they where super busy on Sunday at brunch time. Good menu however large servings of strange and new melbourne style food which could have just been simpler but you could still work your way around. Great selection of teas and their coffee is good not the best but good. All in all not a bad place. Will go there again read more

Great little place for breakfast in Sunbury. They have a good menu with some unexpected dishes. The biggest challenge for a good brekky place is portion size and these guys have it right. Their service is friendly and efficient with a small team of regulars. If only there were a location in Sunbury that would better fit this little gem.
