This almost put me off going in (being neither mature, nor particularly large), until I saw the rack of short skirts and colourful summer dresses. Don't be fooled! Marjays caters for women of all ages and sizes, and is very well priced. I was impressed by how much variety they have, from fuller figure designs to petite articles. Many of their designs would flatter larger women, whether tall or short, as nothing is too clingy, and the materials used are bright and airy. The skirts however look great on a standard size 12, so I walked out with one, and for only $10! I couldn't leave it there. I tried a few dresses as well, however, what would be flattering on a larger women was a rather shapeless bundle of material on an average one. I did enjoy the fact that it had pockets though. If you can find him, the store owner is lovely. He seems to spend most of his time out in the centre, socialising with other shop workers. I thought this was quite endearing. I did however have to find him to buy the skirt. When my mother is next in town, I'll be bringing her here to update her summer dress range. (Oh dear, did I just imply that she's "fuller figured"? Whoops! Really, she's not, I just like the shop!)

I remember when the sizing was so tiny, that my confidence was shaken when I still couldn't fit into a 14-16 (I'm actually a curvy 10). So it's nice to see that the sizing has been altered to be more realistic. This is the perfect place to shop for work clothes - you get what you pay for, and this place specialises in gorgeous coats (I bought a 40s-inspired wool swing coat - gorgeous!!), fitted blouses and skirts and dresses (which are far too expensive for me to consider - most are around the $290 mark!!). Since I have only just started working in the city again, I needed quite a few wardrobe staples for corporate office attire, and this is the perfect place - I'd rather save for good quality clothes than buy cheap and ill-fitting clothes that don't last. Staff were very friendly and helpful too, which makes a huge difference. So if you're looking for high quality clothing that will last the distance, and like the 'girly' 40s/50s inspired looks, this is the place to go!

I am not entirely sure what the owner's purpose for running this op shop is. It doesn't appear to…read morebe for a charity, but prices are so cheap that I can't really see it as a place for people who want to make wads of folding money. The only other possibility I can think of is that the owners/workers are passionate about thrift in general, or maybe about recycling and cutting down waste, but I really don't know. Whatever their motives the result is an op shop that has items that are dirt cheap. I often find myself scurrying quickly away from the place in case they change their mind and charge me double on my items--that's right, a whole 80 cents, that's almost a $1! There is even an area outside and to the right of the entrance that has a sign "FREE" where items are free for people to take. No matter how many times you double check, they really mean it, that area is free. From the free zone I've wombled home wine glasses and shoe preservation boxes. Inside the store is three rooms: one for clothes, one for kitchenalia, and one for bric-a-brac and books. They've said they also have a furniture section but if there is one I couldn't work out how to get there but my guess is that it is next door to the main shop.

The women's clothing boutique has only been open since October 2010 and has a small following, as with all new shops it takes a while to become known and established. Apart from clothes there's jewellery and handbags plus other accessories, so there's an appropriate mix. The change rooms are spacious which is great. So I hope I inspire a few of you to go and check it out. There's a good range of summer clothes and when I was here today, I looked through a long rack of 50% off clothes but alas didn't have my size. Talking about size the range goes from about an 8 to 16 and price wise is very good from approximately $15 to $80. I looked on their website which mentions every Saturday they have 'happy hour' from 10 - 11am as everything is 10% off. Now this is something very unique and I haven't seen or heard of any other clothing store doing such a promotion. Well done Ruby for some lateral thinking. Often I've looked at their party wear stuff and been completely disinterested, I'm 23 now and I've outgrown this place. lots of variety and lots of clothes on sale, I would probably take my daughter here if I had one, hardly anything slutty to be found which is quite refreshing and a damn sight better than Supre. I agree on the swimwear front, I've actually come in here when I didnt have much cash but I needed a bathing suit pronto, I've actually still got it as a spare so thats a quality bonus.

Having said that, it's probably due for some sort of re vamp soon. Valley Girl is primarily for young girls, and has definitely raised the anti since I first started shopping here when I was 13. The clothes remain cheap; and although there may be the odd expensive buy, you usually don't have to wait too long until that particular splurge goes on sale. Thus you can find some good (and by good, I'm placing greater emphasis on cheap) pieces here, even if you happen to be significantly older than the main store demographic. Personally I think Valley Girl is great for various bargains such as (disposable) swimwear. For about fifteen bucks you can often walk away with two bikinis. They may only a summer or two but when it's that cheap, what does it matter?

I noticed the clothing wasn't too bad and the prices were OK too. I bought a top from here for New Years and got a few comments on it. When I told them where I got it they were surprised. Not everything in here is great though so you've got to look around a bit, and the good stuff sells quickly. There is also a lot of rip off designs of other well known labels. But who's gonna know! The service is average, and he looks at you as you're walking around but nothing too bad. I'd recommend this shop to teenagers through to mid twenty year olds.
