BEST BBQ!!!! I MEAN.....WOW. This place blew my mind. I ordered the burnt brisket ends dinner plate with cheesy mash, slaw and hush puppies. My son ordered the brisket sandwich and the fried pickle appetizer for all to share. I also ordered the brisket dinner plate with Mac n cheese to go. The brisket burnt ends were similar to pork belly to me. Hubby said the brisket I brought home was the most tender he's had. The fried pickles were perfectly fried and addicting. I couldn't stop eating them. It was huge too, 5 people could have eaten this appetizer! Prices were a little up there but you got big portions so I didn't mind it. A pretty big group of us decided to stop in for lunch after hearing good things. There were about 20 of us in total, but we were all able to be seated quickly and close by each other. I wish I could remember our server's name because she was wondering. She was attentive and super personal, always making sure we had what we needed. Even with a large group, all of our food came our relatively quickly and around the same time. I went with the tacos, which were much larger than I expected, and the mac and cheese. I ate way too much because it was just that good, and I still had enough left for another meal. Me, my mother and my grandmother all had lunch today at The Smoke Pit with Julia who was our waitress. Julia was on top of her game. We didn't go without anything, never had to ask for anything twice and she treated us with respect and kindness. She was truly beautiful and you could tell it wasn't just on the outside. I got the two meat combo with the brisket and bbq chicken. My sides were cheesy cream corn and deviled egg potato salad. That creamed corn was creamy, sweet and spicy all in one! What really made the meal is the honey glazed corn bread. I'm telling you, that stuff will make you want to slap your momma it's so good. Everything I've tried here is excellent. The meats are always flavorful, tender, and juicy. The service and staff are excellent and have always resolved any problems that arise. (Missing items from take-out order and fatty brisket when lean was requested.). There are hidden menu items you can get, like a chicken tender meal, side salad, and chips and queso. It can get loud and busy here so you might have to wait if you want to dine in. I usually get my food to-go if there's a longer wait because I don't live far and it's a quicker way to eat. The menu had some changes in the past which I didn't wish happened but I'm over it. The owner/managers seem to be responsive on social media when it comes to things like that, which is thrilling to see. read more

I'm from Texas and know that beef prices keep going up, because the number of available cows has been reduced considerably. I love the BBQ Brisket here, but with their recent price increases, I might have to rethink eating here. Almost $30.00 for a Brisket Plate is just insane in my book. A Brisket Sandwich is now $18.00, come on man, give me a break. These new Prices might just cost Smoke Pit some business from those of us living on a fixed income. After enduring a headache caused from TRYing to find decent parking close to the restaurant, I eventually snagged a spot up the street for parking, which I found to be utterly ridiculous since it's more than clear. The management at this establishment does not care much for where their customers park nor the safety of their vehicles! Unless you've made reservations, expect a long, drawn-out wait within the lobby of The Smoke Pit; upon arrival, you cannot help but notice the long lines of people waiting for up to an hour for their turn to be seated. I arrived with a group of over 10 and was seated faster than those that were a pair or smaller family group. The Smoke Pit's main dining area is quite small (hence the long wait in line), and the acoustics within it are so intense you'll struggle to even hear or understand your waitress as she speaks you about the specials. Our server was quite attentive and kind to my table, overall, but a couple of orders were still returned due to them arriving incorrect, which was the kitchen's fault (not her's). Now, onto the food... Horribly-priced, mediocre-tasting with very to little no seasoning ribs is what I was served! I will say that they do give their customers a handsome amount of portions (as they should with those high prices).... But it's the lack of taste and flavor that ruins the overall experience! My sweet potato side was the absolute best-tasting part of my meal, with their delectable cornbread and succulent "honey butter" (which has a hint of cinnamon infused within it) coming in a very close second! But the ribs, although large, were as bland as the town that this establishment rests in!! Even after drowning my ribs with sweet BBQ sauce, it STILL lacked flavor! How someone can cook a rack of ribs and NOT season it well is beyond me. I definitely won't be returning to The Smoke Pit! I'll leave this place to those who are impressed easily. read more

This was my first time at the new location and it's got so much more space. They really did a great job. Now, this meal. It truly was incredible. I didn't have a bite of one thing that I didn't want to go back for more. We got two combo platters with 3 sides so we could all share and this is 100% the way to do it. If you're looking to find good bbq located within the Charlotte area, you need to go to the Smoke Pit!!! I've only been to the Concord location, but this one has the exact same deliciousness as the other location. We came on a random weekday, a bit after the typical lunch hour rush, and it was still busy! Between the 4 of us, we ordered the Build Your Own Combo -- 3 different meats with three sides, cornbread, and dessert to share and we were stuffed! If we had ordered anymore, we would not have been able to finish our meal. I felt like it was so worth it to do the Build Your Own and share so that you can sample a bit of everything. Outstanding service, food, & menu. This place sets a new standard for hospitality. We are from Texas and without a doubt this was the best service we have ever had at a BBQ restaurant. Our server Aithen(not Nathen) was caring, patient, and anticipatory. He politely walked us through the menu, the nuances of their particular dishes, as well as NC cuisine. He gave us samples of several food items to help us make our decisions. Check up on us frequently and even gave us extra sauces from other dishes not at the table. The BBQ was delicious! Everything we tried was unique to the the region and packed with flavor. We where given a plastic knife and fork which I didn't need. I was able to easily cut up the brisket with a plastic spoon from the samples Aithen gave us. The ambiance was bright and inviting. The restrooms were super clean. Management was super nice(asked for her to compliment Aithen). If you ever come here ask for Athen but if Management trains all the servers like Aithen, you will feel right at home with whomever serves you.
