Not at all professional. They kept changing my appointment day and time. They would call and say, "I don't have that time available any longer" when they were the ones who set the time in the first place. Finally, the called the day before my appointment to say they don't take my insurance. No problem but why did it take 6 weeks of then stringing me along and rescheduling to get to that point? I came here about 2.5 years ago and I had seen doctor Valentina, she was great! But sadly, she left and I had a new dentist. This dentist had informed me that I had 3 cavities and had to get my root canal redone. This obviously puzzled me and to be honest, I didn't bother going back. I went to a different dentist a year later and was told that I have no cavities and did not have to get my root canal redone. Shame on you guys for pulling some nonsense like this. It really does you a disservice when you try to scam people with unnecessary procedures. 2 stars because the office is clean and front desk people are nice. It's quite busy here. Can't seem to make an appointment by phone, calling the office prompts an automated text message from their scheduling system, which is fine unless you need to reschedule. The system isn't always accurate, so sometimes they call to change your appointment, sometimes they don't call though and you just get a text message with a new time that may not work for you and no apparent way to change time besides stopping by in-person. The location is cramped, the exam room we were in was closet sized. The dentist/dental hygienist(s) were fine - pleasant and seemed efficient. read more

My first experience going to this place was amazing. I had met Neil who was my hygienist back in April 13, 2018 who did my deep cleaning for cavities and plaque buildup on my upper right and left mouth. He put the anesthesia on me on my gums to relieve the pain to do the deep cleaning on the teeth. Then I met Dr Valentina who was my general dentist who did my deep fillings on my teeth and took her time cleaning and polishing my teeth from further damage. Both Neil and Valentina are friendly people that take care and understand their patient concern on their teeth. After the visit, you get a free sample of dental products that helps you get teeth back in check. The staff are friendly to keep your appointment ready for the next friendly visit. The waiting reception area is pretty accommodate for people waiting for their schedule appointment. It also have a 32" tv that keeps you occupied while waiting for the patient to finish their cleaning. They have free wifi so you can check your email. That a win in my book The bill was mostly covered with the DMO plan but had to pay the difference. read more

PLEASE READ MEDICAID PATIENTS I made an appointment over the phone about 3 weeks ago. Today I went there, filled out the paperwork, and was sitting in the chair ready to get an x-ray only to be told that my insurance has assigned me to another dentist and that I'll have to contact them to change it to the Smilist before getting an exam. Here's how this can be avoided, Smilist staff: 1) when a patient calls, ask if it's their first time there 2) ask if they have medicaid,and if yes: 3) tell them to call their insurance to make the Smilist their main dentist. Note** the change is effective on the 1st of the following month after you change. For example, if you call and make the change on April 3rd, you cannot see the dentist till May 1st. Luckily I live close and it was only a 15 minute walk there (30 minutes both ways; it was a nice walk), but can you imagine being turned down after a 30 minute one-way commute for people coming from elsewhere? I will say the staff are very nice people. Hope this helps! UPDATE* I saw the dentist and hygienist today (5/8/17). Both were lovely people. The doctor took his time to explain to me my situation and next steps. The hygienist did my cleaning and showed me how to floss properly without hurting my gums. read more

Like many others, the dentist has never been my friend since I'm usually so uncomfortable with the visits. I found this office looking to use my expiring insurance benefit and I have no regrets. Shout out to David the hygienist who was very patient with me for most of the beginning process. I have a tiny mouth so I don't do well with the X-ray process as he did his best to make me comfortable and get the images. The cleaning was easy and he was very informative afterwards answering whatever questions I had. Met Dr. Filip afterwards who was equally patient-centric and informative as well. First Time Visit with the marvelous Tenzin, RDH! It was my first time coming here for a routine cleaning and had an amazing experience. Will definitely be back and 100% recommend. The staff was very professional and accommodating with scheduling issues. The office itself is very clean and has a minimalistic style to it. As for the Dental Hygienist, Tenzin, I was immensely pleased with her work and communication throughout the whole process. She conversed with me in a way that calmed my nerves and later went in depth with the processes behind multiple different procedures. She is amazing!! UPDATE: I bumped up The smilist from 2-4 stars since my last post. After my review the owner/manager CALLED me, empathized with my situation, and apologized. I am grateful to have grievances addressed especially since the dental staff (shout-out to Dr. Sasiesta) is wonderful! For this reasons I decided against changing primary dental offices and scheduled an appointment for today. I was checked in & checked out quickly by a warm receptionist who I haven't seen before & had an overall great experience. Everyone was in good spirits and the appointment was pretty prompt. ___________________________________ I've been going to this practice for years and have seen it's change in management. Since it was bought out by "The Smilist" the appearance and treatment by the Dentists and Dental Hygienists have been wonderful. However, I'm giving them 2 Stars for their inability to answer the phones, talk to patients appropriately, and overall manners. I called them foramonthstraight and received NO ANSWER. Today, the receptions tells another patient (bc I didn't wanna be petty with someone who was about to have drills in my mouth), "sometimes we don't answer the phones because we are too busy". WTF?! Now listen, I'm a social worker and I'm used to being cursed out and listening to really intense client experiences, so i don't take things personally but gotdamn the dentist made an exception to see me today since your girl is getting married in 2 days. Dentist came in clutch & told me to come @5:30 so she could squeeze me in. I tell this to the front desk staff and this happens: Receptionist: "nah we can't do that" Me: But the boss lady said "yes girl I gotchu!" Receptionist: "I mean you could leave & call the office later, but we leave @6". Me: "But y'all don't answer the phones so imma come back" So I come back and I'm sitting here waiting. OUT OF MF PRINCIPLE. & as I sit here the two receptionists are texting, talking about me in Spanish "pero ya tu sabes yo girl Bilingual", one is slurping her soup and the other is talking about how she's so tired and wants to leave asap. & I wouldn't be so upset if they spoke to me nicely and expressed some empathy, bc I totally understand what it's like to have a long day and how big of a deal it even was for the dentist to try to squeeze me in. So to the practice that I have stuck to despite moving to Jersey and working in the Bronx: I'm sad to say that your demise might be the front office staff and the systems that you have in place (that they fail to execute). read more

5/7/2021 I have to say this practice has to be one of the worst I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. Not only have they destroyed a tooth (#27) by using a dentist that couldn't figure out the equipment and left me with an unfinished root canal, the tooth ended up being extracted. I had to deal with a new dentist every time I turned around. I had one dentist that looked at my xray to do some work, told me ok, fine, and then I received a call three days before my appointment that he was leaving in three days and would not be doing my procedure, someone else would!!   If it wasn't the fact that they didn't have a dentist available to see me, they sent the wrong information to my insurance company. I have been waiting months to get my lower dentures only to receive a call yesterday that they NOW don't accept my insurance!!! This left me with no partial denture on the bottom, the top still needs work and I have to find another dentist to take over all the work. they gave NO NOTICE AT ALL.... NONE!! that they were dropping my insurance. And the shame of it is, that they leave their front desk people to deliver the bad news to patients that are in the middle of procedures.... like the COWARDS that the directors of this practice are!!   YOU tell me something doesn't stink at the "Smilist".  Well, they did nothing for my smile that's for sure and if you are smart..... you would stay away from them too~! I absolutely love The Smilist at Sunnyside/Woodside. I've been coming for years and it just occurred to me to leave a review. Everyone is seriously always so kind and attentive. Maria will go out of her way to accommodate any needs and Norma and Jackie are super sweet and fast. I've never had to wait more than 5 to 10 minutes to go in to get anything done. On my last appointment, Dr. Azadeh filled a cavity and she was super reasuring. I noticed that her and her assistant Mario (the kindest ever) perceived that I was very anxious about it and they made sure to make me feel at ease. After that, I had a deep cleaning performed by Claudia, and it was hands down the most informative and painless cleaning ever. She made sure I knew what was exactly going on and was also very meticulous. On top of everyone being so great at what they do, they really all are just naturally nice and concerned about your dental health without ripping your pocket. I absolutely love them. read more

Worst customer service/ Receptionist I have ever dealt with. I was willing to give them a shot due to some of the good reviews so i went ahead and contact my insurance and had them change my provider to this office. And my insurance said im good to go to go ahead and call and make my appointments for me and my son. I called and they had an opening for the next day at 10am, Perfect i thought.. until she asked for my insurance which is now liberty dental that replaced healthplex. The lady over the phone fought with me saying they do not accept Liberty Dental. And i continued to explain that there is no more healthplex it has been replaced with liberty dental and my insurance company had to approve similest dental for them to be my provider. She then went on saying ok fine i can make your appointment and then someone else will contact your insurance Fine! .. Within the 5 minute conversation apparently gave my appointment time for tomorrow at 10am to someone else. I dont know how that it is possible but it is certainly unprofessional. I hung up and im definitely switching providers now. When a new dental plan takes over a old plan the workers need to be more up to date on their insurance companies. Totally unacceptable. read more

Unorganized and unnecessary. Came in for an emergency appointment in the beginning of January for trouble I was having with a wisdom tooth. Came in and had the major concerned addressed and was recommended to an oral surgeon, and they answered a few questions on a couple other concerns I've had. Insurance covers everything and leave after being pressured to schedule a "consultation" a month later. I come in for them to have the wrong clients information up as mine and literally tell me everything they already told me a month prior. I even showed them the exact recommendation card specifying what they already said I needed done a month prior and how I already have an appointment set up with the surgeon recommended. At the end of it all I was charged $150 for them to have the wrong information for me and telling me everything they had already a month prior. Makes absolutely no sense and I feel beyooooonnd stupid for even handing over my card for nothing but at that point I was just over it. Would love that money back but I don't know the chances of that but they'll bombard you with texts and emails to leaves a review on the visit so here we are. read more

Sneaky people. They stopped taking my insurance and never told me. I went to my cleaning appointment and, as usual, had no copay. A few weeks later, they texted me saying I had a bill of $120! Outrageous. Very deceptive. I am considering legal action. Also, they lied to us about our daughter's diagnosis. When we told them she has ADHD, they called back and told us the dentist said that the cavity might need root canal. We went to another dentist, who told us it was a small cavity and not at all a root canal situation. They just didn't want to deal with our daughter and lied to us and caused us worry about her tooth because they didn't want to treat her. Disgusting. read more

This place is amazing for braces. The front desk staff is very knowledgeable, patient, and courteous. Claudia and Paola are nice and always willing to accommodate you. My daughter is being treated for braces. We have been coming here since April and she is super excited because her teeth have straighten. She hasn't had any severe pain and that's because the orthodontists are knowledgeable. One of the advantages of going here is they have a payment plan option just in case your insurance doesn't cover the cost of getting braces. The only downer of this place is they run out of drinking water fast. The other downer is they only have one bathroom, it's very clean though and when going in knock and pull hard on the handle cause it gets stuck. Overall, my experience is great. This dental office is the reason I am no longer afraid of dentists!! Years of traumatic dental experiences made me put off caring for my teeth until I had no choice. I came in for my tooth that was in immense pain, and had such a phobia of the dentist that I was crying and shaking during the x-ray exam! But after I got the root canal I was so eager to fix all the other issues with my mouth because Dr. Azadeh and Mario were so gentle and empathetic, not to mention flawless professionals! I just had my 3rd visit with them to complete the crown process and am going back to fix the rest of my mouth issues, and am excited to be doing so! I never thought I would have no more anxiety going to the dentist, and I truly have them to thank for that! Special shout out to Mario, what a gentle soul who really cares about the patients, you can just tell how genuine he is! I came here after a TON of research. I have EmblemHealth (formerly GHI) and the options were dismal. This office came up as one of the few with some very positive reviews. All of the staff- receptionists, hygienists, and dentist- were incredibly friendly and professional. I had thought my appointment was with Dr. Filip (whom I had requested due to positive reviews) but I guess there was a misunderstanding because I had Dr. Golub instead. He was also great and didn't try to bullshit me like some dentists have in the past. He answered my questions patiently and set my mind at ease about some things I had been worried about. I had a great experience here. The service was great. But now I keep getting the bill for the balance that was not covered by my insurance for the services provided a year ago. The smilist is a participating provider and according to the insurance I am not responsible for any charges. And I had asked upfront if there are any charges not covered by my insurance. I was told only the antibiotic was not covered and I had paid upfront. Now they are claiming some extra charges. I called the front desk and the lady kept saying make the insurance company call them. I came in on a Friday with a large discomfort related to wisdom teeth. The Smilist team was accommodating enough to organise for my wisdom teeth to be removed the next day (Saturday), all within 24 hours. Poor customer service I went to make an appointment and the Hispanic girl who sits on the far left was bothered because I asked if she takes my insurance and she repeated what I said loudly and said no. So I asked her when were you planning to call me to let me know? I mean being a professional and working in an office that should be part of your protocol. The dental care is fine and the office staff is friendly. My issue is with billing. We have gotten mistaken bills for almost a thousand dollars about four times. Every time we call the office, they assure us that it is a mistake due to insurance claim issues and they zero the balance.
