You can ask him literally anything and he's there to help, recommend a read, a documentary, or just help you with your card. One of the nicest and most helpful humans to exist! I visited the library's outdoor used bookstore on a Saturday. There was plenty of parking and it…read morewasn't busy at all. There were hundreds of books to browse through and I ended up getting two giant zoology books for only $3 total. Transaction was quick and they had plenty of change in case you had bigger bills (unsure if they do credit card). They had everything from art and how-to draw books all the way to giant books for school (math, biology, etc). I was pleasantly surprised by the selections.

We were quite disappointed, but from what we could see, literally thousands of books in both stalls outside, and on shelfs hidden inside the building. The woman in charge (apparently) apologized to us, and WF introduced herself, since she's on the board of the library association in our town. That didn't get us a peek at the stacks, but a new friend was made. They are open through October, so there's another trip planned in the near future. We need to remember to park close enough (and bring lots of bags) so we don't have to carry our purchases very far.

There are reading areas inside and a few tables outside with umbrellas. Multiple computers for public internet. There is a system called Libby which gives access to online books and audio books once you have a card. The staff were all friendly and helpful. In…read moreseeking out a copy of a specific reference book, I was assisted by Shari Merrill, Head of Adult Services. She went above and beyond the call of duty in helping me to find exactly what I needed and and did it in a cheerful and friendly way. She tracked down the book I wanted, and then scanned maps within it. She next found an additional resource I was unaware of, and made photocopies of its content. Lots of interesting nooks and crannies to explore, local historic artifacts, paintings, etc. Also, nice selection of DVD's to borrow, and fun activities for babies and toddlers during the week. If you are local, this is a great place to stop during a walk up Main St. or to bring some books or laptop for study.

Unfortunately, I have recently felt uncomfortable there…read more Whenever I walk in, the same person at the front desk is always complaining to a colleague about another colleague (this is every time I walk in) while still wearing gloves and a mask. It just isn't the most welcome place that it used to be. It's almost like your intruding on their (inappropriate) colleague conversations, instead of the warm welcome I used to get when I entered.

I was blown away by my wonderful experience at the Beekman Library. I went there to sign up for a…read morelibrary card and every staff member was so helpful and pleasant. I was welcomed to town and received a helpful Welcome Bag. I was able to quickly sign up for my card and then I was easily able to use the e-catalog (after a brief tutorial from the staff). The library is clean, well maintained and felt very "community minded". Though the range of books is small anything you are looking for can easily be requested from their library system. Coming from a very large library system where no one ever looked me in the eye much less greeted me by name - this library rocks! As a bonus, they were having a book sale in their basement and it was a great place to pick up a few books I had been looking for while supporting this great community resource. Bravo Beekman Library!
