Two nights at The Selwyn left me pleased that the first place I'd chosen to stay in (a place I'd stayed in previously) was fully booked. The Selwyn provided a level of European-style luxury that was delightful; I hadn't known it's what I'd wanted, but once I experienced it I most certainly did.
Let's start with the decor. Someone with a decorator's eye has outfitted The Selwyn with the most stylish of interiors, one that makes you feel grander just for having the good taste to stay there. The common rooms -and especially the dining room - are elegant and chic.
Although I may have had the smallest room in the hotel (for which I paid about $310 per night including a fabulous breakfast for 2) it, too, was full of style. Whoever did the interiors for this place is uniquely talented.
Those breakfasts that were included in my room rate? French-accented servers invited guests to help themselves to an enticing array of offerings (pastries, cheeses, meats, smoothies, overnight oats, and more) as they readied your Cappuccino perhaps, and you studied the menu. A made to order breakfast comes with all of this and trust, you might not need to eat again until dinnertime.
The Selwyn is a lovely and beautifully maintained old building a very short walking distance to Richmond's train/metro station and the Orange Tree Theatre.
I liked the place I'd stayed at previously in Richmond-Upon-Thames but must admit that The Selwyn delivered an elegance and style that I hadn't even known I desired. read more
