I had an excellent, generous, gracious meal at the Bavarian Chef this afternoon for my birthday…read more I'm still groaning! The food was fabulous and we got the full complement of sides--whipped potatoes, green beans, creamed corn, spaetzle, carrots and apples, potato dumplings, zucchini, braised red cabbage, German potato salad, maybe more (my belly's so full, I'm not remembering well...)--rye rolls, red pepper soup with crab, trout with almonds (yum!). We had a very nice dry German Riesling and. German Pinot Noir. The five of us shared a piece of the amazing German chocolate cake. Our server, Nick, was very pleasant, efficient and professional--good at his job and possessing a beautiful, warm smile. I had an Asbach Sidecar that was very well made. I see a negative review from a couple of months ago (~February 2026-ish?) that sounds like it was written about another restaurant, not the delightful Bavarian Chef I know and love. The writer of that poor review seems to have been enjoying the sound of her own writing (which leans toward the overly dramatic and away from anything like an honest review) more than trying to express anything real about the Bavarian Chef. She seems to have an ax of some kind to grind, as she could find not one nice, decent thing to say. I disagree with her with every well-seasoned, perfectly cooked vegetable and flavorful rye roll digesting in my belly right now. The Bavarian Chef is a treat. You'd be a fool to miss it!

Be prepared to split it with someone (personally, I recommend the pork though you have the option for chicken schnitzel). Schnitzel cooked to perfection and the size of your head on a pretzel bun half the width with tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, and a delicious aoli. The ratio just allows you more opportunity to let your taste buds dance with the perfectly cooked schnitzel! ::chef's kiss:: If you see the dill pickle mac salad... buy a tub! Super creamy with the perfect amount of acidity. I was skeptical of the dill pickle element but was curious and I'm so glad we tried it. For those looking for vegetarian options, there were two served today, the Käse Spätzle and what I ordered, the "Un-Routine Poutine" (insert drool face)... spätzle egg noodles, mushroom gravy (incredibly delicious), cheese curds, and fried onions... All to say - WOW! I will purposefully shift plans around to have this again! And for those curious about the Fusion reference - other sandwiches include: The Hawaiian, The Korean, The Thai, The Cordon Bleu, The American... I'll be back to try them all! ... And get more of that dill pickle mac salad!

I liked the schnitzel sandwich with the beautiful golden cutlet and cucumbers and tomatoes. While I didn't like the spaetzel I am glad I tried it. I will be back to try the other sandwiches.

Fun place, good atmosphere (modern German w/o being douchy or fake)…read more Had maybe the best schnitzel I've ever had - it was crunchy and tender, but also had great flavor (rare) and was almost "light" - I say almost bc nothing deepn fried is trully light but this ate that way. Excellent spot, look forward to going again next time in in Old Town.

My experience at this restaurant was mixed. While the food itself was fine, the service left me and…read moremy husband feeling awkward and uncomfortable by the end. Our assigned server only came to our table twice--once to take our order and once to drop off the check. It was another staff member who actually provided a majority of the service - she brought us warm bread, delivered our food, and refilled our drinks multiple times. When it came time to pay, I paid in cash using a larger bill. The server assumed I was giving a large tip and was about to walk away with no intention of giving me my change. I made no comment of "keep the change" I then had to awkwardly ask for my change back so I could leave a tip separately. He proceeded to ask how much change I wanted, putting me on the spot and feeling pressured to leave a large tip (mind you, I was going to already leave a tip). Because of this, I ended up leaving a much larger tip (over 50%) than I had intended, especially considering the level of service he provided us. I understand that I could have been more firm about asking for all my change back, but guests should never feel pressured or uncomfortable when paying. Overall, the service experience with our waiter overshadowed what could have been an otherwise enjoyable visit.
