The atmosphere in the morning is very inviting. They offer some items for health conscious people. I like their coffee mugs.

They don't take reservations for outdoor tables, and when we arrived and signed in, they told us it would be a 20 minute wait but that we could wander around downtown and they'd call us as soon as the table was available, and it's a lovely town to wander in. They have several outdoor tables, masked servers, hand sanitizer on the table, and guidelines encouraging you to wear your mask when speaking with server. The food was EXCELLENT! My french toast was incredibly light and fluffy with a sweet cinnamon flavoring. The bacon was amazing (and I am not a bacon fan.) My sister also said her BLT was superb - with a nice whole grain bread. Service great. Two days later, we did takeout pastries from there for breakfast - apricot danish, cheddar herb scone, cinnamon roll - all good. Would highly recommend. read more

Went here for brunch for the first time. Upon arrival we had about a 30 minute wait. I did not mind waiting though because the wife and I grabbed a cup of bottomless coffee while we waited. I ordered the Kansan breakfast that came with eggs, sausage, toast, and breakfast potatoes. This was a very flavorful and very filling breakfast. The service here was very prompt and attentive. Took my mom here for a Mother's Day breakfast a few months ago, and we were definitely not disappointed. Not having reservations for Mother's Day, we knew we'd have to wait, but they did give us a few mugs for their self-serve drip coffee while we waited for our table and they were really friendly despite the obvious rush. When you give a generic name like "Jon" and they skip you for someone who came 18 minutes after you named "Jon", then try to tell you you're wrong and that you haven't been waiting since 9:20 and then proceed to give a ton of attitude... that's not customer service. In town from Wichita and chose this place for breakfast based on Yelp reviews, man am I glad we did! We got there around 10:30 on a Monday morning and the place was a little over half full. Got seated right away and within a few minutes, our server, who was extremely busy, came over and greeted us with an big smile and awesome personality! I ordered The Rooster ($10) with French toast! Got my eggs scrambled with cheese and everything was amazing. My eggs were cooked perfectly and tastes very fresh. The bacon was some of the best I've ever had! Cooked just right, with a little crunch, and tasted sweet and smoky (and I own a BBQ restaurant). The French toast was 2 pieces of thick sliced homemade bread and had awesome flavor! My only small complaint, is that the syrup you get is cold, not warm. My husband got an omelette with spinach, sun dried tomato and feta cheese with a side of hollandaise sauce. He said it was one of the best omelettes he's ever had. This place was great, and we will definitely be back when we come back to town. Our bigger complaint is that there isn't a place like this in Wichita! read more

The roost has a very odd ambiance. Milton's was more homey feeling where the roost tries for a semi-industrial look. They crammed a lot of tables into the space and the bar area is almost too expansive. The major downside is the noise. With the concrete floors the place is loud and conversations carry. The walls are bland and uninviting. Very similar setup to Miltons. Serve your own coffee is nice, but the flavor was not great. Food pricing is kind of expensive for the portion size. A full order of biscuits and gravy for $6 looked like a 1/4 serving from Wheatfields. $7-$9 breakfast cocktails also seemed pricey. Service was decent but nothing that wowed me like the previous review. We waited for 15 minutes when a lot of tables were open. Overall a disappointing experience, I probably won't be back. read more

The Roost is basically Miltons ver2, but with few upgrades. The space has been stripped down to a bare, monochromatic minimum in contrast to the cozy warmth of the old Mlton's. The menu may look different on the surface - printed on paper in retro font, and much smaller - but items are nearly identical to the old Milton's, featuring standard breakfast pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and eggs benedict. The major difference is that they now serve cocktails. Service has remained, oddly, unchanged as well: it seemed as though there was a busy breakfast rush when my party was one of maybe 4 others in the restaurant. Our drinks took a good 20 minutes to come out, and they made my omelet wrong so I had to wait even longer for them to fix it. When we finally all had our meals the promptness set in and it felt like we were being rushed out, as our plates were quickly gathered and our checks delivered far too soon. I could sort of forgive this at the old Milton's because there were always long waits, but more than half the restaurant was empty that morning. I'm all for trendy and hip new joints. I just believe that if you're going to makeover an old establishment, at least make it new from the ground up - don't just slap a different exterior on Milton's and call yourself a new restaurant. So, in sum: (The Roost) = (Milton's) - (busy crowds) - (homey feel) + (alcoholic beverages). Unless The Roost can establish its identity more clearly, I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Apparently there's a following of the place (I can understand why, the food's alright) and the ingredients are pretty top notch, I'm sure I'm risking some type of blasphemy, and so we go...... It's a Monday, brunchish time around 11, and my old lady and I get a seat right away, staff is nice, and timely so far so good. I order the salmon benedict and m'lady gets a BLT on a gluten free bun which was a dollar extra according to the waitress, alright, guess using fake flour costs a buck, but whatever. We're barely there 10 minutes and we get our food, cool! The BLT looks great, according to my better half, it's awesome. My benedict looked like it was minaturized by the enormous plate, or the lack of food on it. I don't eat a lot, but if I'm going to pay 9 bucks for two eggs, a sad sliver of salmon and over poached eggs with a trifle of potatoes, at least make me feel like it's 9 bucks worth of food. Fo Reelz though, dry muffin, sliver of salmon, overpoached egg, nothing else, no garnish, no panache, no finish, no paprika, no nuthin. Seriously, first thing I noticed was there were literally 12 potatoes on the plate, it just came out of my mouth "Are they running low on potatoes back there?" The potatoes were ok at best, salt and pepper, what ever oil they use to cook and bind, and MAYBE a dash of cumin, probably not? The hollandaise was kind of thick, tasted tangy enough, maybe Knorr packets? Maybe sat in the cambrose too long? Who knows. Maybe I caught them on an off day, I usually gauge a breakfast joint by its spuds and benedict, I'm hoping I caught them on an off day since other plates were looking effing awesome, then I got my red headed step child of a plate. Anyway, I was going to Great Harvest to get my regular stipend of home made, uber awesome cinnamony granola, but decided to ge Roost granola, why not, seems like they would make a decent batch, and better than decent it was! However....(my fault, should have checked), it was TEN DOLLARS.....WHAT THE FU**?!?!?!? It's not TEN DOLLARS good. Then instead of paying a buck for the gluten free bun, it was two bucks, c'mon guys, is the rent that high? Are there that many people working there? Do the egg laying chickens have a giant therapy bill? Does the person talking to the oats before they're harvested charge that much? I will give it another go, but for a $30 brunch with two people just drinking water, I think I would have felt better if it was $25 at most or the food was insane and I became a disciple. This is a great restaurant all around: food, service, location, business practice. First off, of course is the food. I don't have a well rounded comment for this as I only had biscuits and gravy, fruit, potato pancake and coffee--but they were all delicious. The biscuits and gravy are some of the best I have had. Biscuits had a nice texture, not pasty or dry and the gravy rocked. Can tell it is made from a roux and not a packaged bit and the taste was very savory--not overly meaty, which I do not like. Fresh fruit cup was tasty incorporating seasonal melons, pineapple and strawberries. Potato pancake was exactly like what my mom makes: mashed potato, egg, and some chives. Cooked to a perfect crisp. Coffee--was just like I like it--Columbian, strong and smooth. There was a coffee bar, so no matter what your preference, I am sure there is something for you. Service was friendly and efficient. A big pet peeve of mine is an overly attentive waitstaff--this one was perfect, in spite of how busy they were, we didn't have too wait long. Location on Mass street in Lawrence is always a plus, and they had outside seating as well. To top the experience off is the good feeling you get when you have patronized an establishment that has a good business practices and is a local business. The Roost is owned by three people and they work on site. They source as much locally grown produce and supplies as possible and there is a list on the wall telling where the supplies come from They pay a fair wage and even offer a little profit sharing to their employees The employees seem to be as happy as the customers. I will definitely be returning to The Roost to try more of their fare, to enjoy the service and atmosphere, as well as, to support the local economy in a fair practice business. read more

I won't be long winded like some of the other pretentious comments. I'll get to the point. This place is awesome! Lots of different types of great tasting coffee.. and AS MUCH AS YOU WANT! Being vegan, finding a breakfast spot can be challenging. But I know its independently owned so the kitchen can do basically whatever they want. I went in and asked the server if she could tell the cooks to make something vegan for me. I told her I like potatoes, vegetables, bread, etc... I'm not too picky. The chef was awesome enough to make a potato veggie hash with an avocado/ tomato/ onion/ lettuce sandwich which filled me up pretty nicely.... and I'm a big eater so that was a bonus. You don't find that many restaurants that go out of their way like that. So I definitely appreciate it for sure :) Cool atmosphere, nice people, good food, great coffee... what else do you need! :D I will return! read more

The coffee is magical... I don't know where they found their barista, but her lattes are the best I've ever had. I am making my way thru trying everything in the bakery case and so far it has all been great. Especially love the honey pecan sticky bun.
