Our son started working for THE RANGE in November 2010, as fixed term staff for Christmas. He did so well that he was offered a permanent position, in December 2010. He worked extremely hard, never having any time off sick, and doing any overtime they asked. He was never late.
He even managed to get into work, walking, when the buses were not running due to snow. A customer asked to speak to The Manager about him, and commended him on his attitude and politeness.
Despite all this, in February 2011, he was working on the cash desk and was asked by a customer to change up some money for him. He did this, but as he was sorting the money out the man started asking him to change up other amounts until he had totally confused him. Our son asked for help from a senior member of staff, who was told by the man that my son had short changed him. The man left, leaving fake contact details. The senior members of staff kept telling my son not to worry, that this could happen to anyone. It was found that £30 was missing from the till. My son immediately offered to reimburse the company the money. They said this wasn't necessary. He was shown the CCTV footage of the incident. There was a good image of the thief, but not of his hands.
When our son went into work, 2 days later, he was fired from his job. He was told that The Manager had spotted something else on the CCTV footage, but my son was never shown the new evidence.
He was fired on the spot.
To the best of our knowledge, the theft was never reported to the Police. You would think that if the evidence was good enough to fire my son, it was good enough to prosecute the thief!
Our son was coming to the end of his Work Probation Period, and it was looking very likely that he would be an excellent employee. The Range did not take any of his work ability and conduct into consideration.
We were told when he started working for them, that they have a reputation for getting rid of staff as they come to the end of their probation. This proved to be very true!!
Our son has written to The Manager and Chris Dawson, asking them to reconsider his dismissal. Although, the Deputy Manager stated that they had lost confidence in him
So if you are thinking of working for them....BE CAREFULL AND BE WARNED!! read more
