What took me by surprise here is the exceptional level of quality in every bite of food. We were truly mesmerized with the flavor and the sourcing of the ingredients, I really do believe this place does all organic farming, and because of their location out in the French countryside, farm to table is not something they market, it's just who they are. We ordered the classic croquet madame, and it was easily one of the best bites of food I've ever had in my life. I don't understand how they achieved this level of flavor with ingredients that everyone else in France would be able to have access to if they looked hard enough. I made a reservation mistake and thought that we would not be able to eat there but a stroke of luck had us down for an 8PM reservation the next night. Great little hole in the wall like Japanese restaurant with mostly Sushi bar seating. We had the edamame, chicken karaage, some incredible mushroom dish, the Coquilles, tuna tartar and YES the fabulous pork chop which we missed last year as per below. It was all wonderful and since we drove down from Strasbourg just to eat at La Lune our expectations were high. Terrific at every turn. The one thing I am angry with myself for is not getting the name of the wonderfully talented Japanese chef and the gent that runs the front of the house (with some help from a capable colleague this year). I really would like to recognize them by name but it will have to wait until next year. Very few restaurants are a total hit but La Lune is one of them. Cannot wait to return.

I was really looking forward to their Boeuf Bourguignon with fresh tagliatelle, but the sauce only seemed to taste like salt and the pasta was not dressed (olive oil or butter) or seasoned at all and was very dry. Ended with the crème brûlée but its hard to mess that up. While the restaurant is definitely beautiful inside and the service was good, there were better and less expensive choices in Beaune.

Five Star Evening!…read more It was a perfect evening in BEAUNE. June 21 was the longest day of the year and a cause for celebration in the city. Streets were shut down to traffic, bands were playing in nearly every square and we had a front row seat at this wine bar/Café. We were seated in the wine cellar, so it was a little cooler as well as a bit quieter than if we had been seated at an outside table. Let's start with a Wine. Their 50+ page wine list is outstanding. They were nine pages, just devoted to champagne and sparkling wine. What's more, our young server was more than qualified to help us with the list and to make recommendations. This was an anniversary celebration, so we began with champagne and charcuterie, and a couple of other starters. Later, we moved on to smaller sized mains that included salmon, chicken, and other delicious selections. Two chefs operating in about 2 m² did an impressive job of putting out food. We were able to linger over outstanding champagne and wines while having a wonderful light meal and a most wonderful evening. What a special celebration in Burgundy.
