Out of the blue, I received a phone call from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force letting me know there was a warrant for my arrest for two very serious, violent felonies. At first, I thought it was a joke... it wasn't. The Marshal was actually a reasonable guy, and we arranged a date and time for me to turn myself in. He couldn't tell me the exact details, just that they were serious charges. A coworker recommended Mark Sutton to me, and Mark got straight to work: he found out I was being charged with two counts of malicious wounding, rescheduled my surrender date so he could go with me, and immediately secured a bond so I could bail right out. Once I knew what was going on, I thought, "I can prove I wasn't even in the state when this happened! I don't need a lawyer--I'll just explain it, show proof, and it'll be easy." I couldn't have been more wrong. Navigating the legal system was a nightmare, and I saw pretty quickly that without proper representation, the truth alone wasn't going to save me. I was facing decades in prison for a crime I didn't commit, and there was a very real possibility of being convicted regardless of my innocence. Long story short, hiring Mark was the best decision I made. He was able to get two violent felony charges carrying significant prison time negotiated down to a single misdemeanor with zero jail time. Was I innocent? Yes. Would I have felt comfortable going to trial in a West Virginia courtroom without him? Absolutely not. If you find yourself in trouble in West Virginia, Mark Sutton is the attorney you want in your corner!

I got an email back the next morning . That was it! We were off. Lesley scheduled a phone call and we spoke at length. I felt the need to explain over and again that we weren't bad people. That there were legitimate reasons we were in the financial mess we were in. But Lesley never asked... She never assumed anything about me or my husband. She made me feel like finally after several years of juggling and struggling and never ever getting ahead that someone was going to help us. We had a call with Mr. Hinkle and after going over the info I had given Lesley, he said he didn't see how we could keep from filling bk. I am not saying it is easy. There is a lot of info you have to gather, provide and continue to provide after your first meeting with Mr. Hinkle. But Lesley, Donna and Mr. Hinkle are extremely accessible and will answer all your questions in a very timely manner. Mr Hinkle is very upfront about the costs involved. There are some fees that he does not control and are not up to him. He also let us pay his fee in two installments. I sent my first email to his office on April 14 and we had our meeting with the trustee on August 13. If approved as indicated it will be, it should be discharged by mid-October. I finally see light at the end of our tunnel and for the first time in years, I'm allowing myself to think just maybe it isn't a train. Huge thanks especially to Lesley for her patience, constant upbeat and optimistic attitude and for talking me off the ledge whether she knew she was doing it or not.
