Saying that, It is nice, comfortable and there are some decent beers on offer. They tend to keep it very dark though for some reason. People who go there are naturally friendly, and the confined spaces help too. There's also a decent-sized outdoor terrace where, once again, I keep finding myself chatting with someone new. Otherwise it's rather quaint, but unremarkable. Good pub food, nice traditional decor, and prices in line with Waterloo (ie. slightly more expensive than it should be). The main problem is that it lies far out of the town centre, so if you start your night where the rest of the nightlife is, it's a bit of a trek to get to. The one thing I do lament is that the staff aren't Irish. Don't get me wrong, I love the Belgians, but there's something very comforting about Irish staff in an Irish pub. And since Oscar's - in Waterloo town centre - does have lovely Irish staff, AND makes possibly the best burgers I've ever had in my life, I have little reason to ever go here.

There are snack foods available, or you can dine properly. We didn't try the restaurant, but the menu includes steaks, fish and chips, rack of lamb etc from EUR16-21. We made this a regular stop for late morning coffee, and for Belgian beers (but, of course, Guinness and whiskeys are available) with excellent frites (chips) and mayonnaise as a snack. It has an awesome outside dining space with fire pits in the tables for winter dining. Inside has a pub atmosphere. As for the food, I got The Old Country burger which was okay. I ordered the large but it wasn't much bigger than my friends who got a regular size burger. The fries were more like chips, but the truffle aioli was fantastic. They didn't have a dessert menu which was a disappointment. The service was really slow, but the food came pretty quick. Overall I'd eat there again.

That's why we were so happy to find this pub was open. We were hungry and had just driven about 2 hours from Amsterdam. My cousin and I both ordered the smoked salmon wrap (mine without the cream cheese spread). Risky thing to order from a bar, right?! NOPE. While I would normally never order this at a pub in the US, I realized that the quality of the smoked salmon from the Netherlands and Belgium cannot be compared to the prepackaged stuff we buy in the US. The smoked salmon I had at various places on my trip was some of the freshest, most vibrant smoked salmon I've ever had.. this place included. The portion was very good for 7€ as well. I gave Tony Tighe, the manager (or that's what he called himself?) a months notice before I came out to work for this bar. I started just before st Patrick's day 2023. To start off, living accommodation. To be fair, working somewhere where accommodation is included for a small fee you can't be expecting too much, but you'd at least expect it to be clean..... right? This place wasn't, it was filthy from the pin board in the bathroom flaking away with yellow stains to the layers of dust left in my room to the sorrowful bed with a old stained pillow supporting the mattress. The accommodation was vile, no cooking amenities apart from a hot plate with one working plate and a crusty, sludge ridden toaster oven which has never been cleaned. Numerous windows were broken and ready to fall apart if you opened them, I cannot count the amount of punch holes in the doors and also the walls from I presume previous staff? To top it off the shower was like an empty tin of beans. (Picture included) This place is by far the most disgusting place you can call a flat. Next working conditions, To be fair the actual work was fine, coming from previous bar experience it was easy, the language barrier can be difficult but that's to be expected. Long nights which you wouldn't mind.... IF YOU EVER GOT PAID FOR THEM!!!!. Not to mention the mice in the bottom of the bottle bins under the counter tops. I obviously didn't stay working here for very long but however I left on good terms and offered to finish out the week so to not leave them stuck on the weekend. I must've missed it but apparently we didnt. Tony told me I would be paid for the time worked and with it now being over a month since being there I haven't received anything. I have tried to contact him numerous times through phone email and WhatsApp he has now blocked my number for politely asking him what the situation was. The number and email advertised on jobs.ie dosent get you anywhere as when rang, even though an Irish person answered proceeded to claim I got the wrong number. So whatever you do avoid this at all costs and do not work here. If any member of management would like to reach out to me regarding any of this please do.
