    Our cabins 3 & 4

Had an amazing stay at the outpost. The cabins are quaint, well maintained and comfortable. The views and local area are outstanding. Would definitely stay again!

We have stayed at The Outpost on two different occasions within the last 4 months! We love this place! We always stay in cabin 5. The mayor of Fonskin is the owner and is so nice! Fonskin is the quiet side of Big Bear! We usually go out to eat at the many restaurants in Big Bear lake which is only 15 minute drive. The cabins have fridges and microwave and stove and we have also made dinner in the cabin. The cabins are always very clean! And you are very close to Jackie and Shadows nest when you stay here!

I stayed in Cabin #2 - I forgot to take pictures because I was just enjoying my time in the mountains so much but the pics online give a great idea of the cabin. Huge bathroom/shower, spacious bedroom and cozy/modern cabin vibes overall. Great porch to watch the sun go up/down with a drink -- I enjoyed the bench swing right by. The property is SO clean and well-maintained and I really enjoyed how beautiful it looked with the string-lights at night. I can't wait to come back during the winter time to use the fireplace! Plus, the blankets provided at the communal fire pit I thought was a great touch. There were so many little details here and there to make the stay feel perfect!

We stayed at cabin #3 (see pics). Plenty of cooking utensils. Comfy. Completely happy with our stay. We had such a great time. Will stay here again the next time we are in Big Bear. Service: 5/5 Jolene, the owner, was pleasant and accommodating. We ran out of cooking oil. She brought us a bottle to use for our omelette. Just on the outskirts of Big Bear but a huge difference in pricing is how we originally found Quail Lodge. I'm really thankful we did though because I LOVE that we're in our own cabin & the 1 neighbor only has the kitchen as the shared wall. You get your own wood marked parking spot, front yard and side yard. There's 5 cabins total and it's a cozy place to stay. The owners are more than helpful & available 9am-9pm. I stayed in cabin #3 but all cabins include a full kitchen. Dishes, glasses, rags, dish soap, a microwave & fridge are all included. There's a basket of toiletries as well as coffee, sugar, etc. Just a side note...spices, condiments and paper towels are not provided, so if you plan on cooking, pack accordingly. There are some things that they can lend/give such as a colander, foil (which I forgot) or some cooking oil. There's a Super Kmart relatively close by as well as a Vons for anything missed. Towels are clean, the beds are comfy, the heater works VERY well, the water comes out perfectly heated & there's complimentary wi-fi as well as basic cable. Definitely coming back as well as recommending to friends & family!!! P.s. Extra bonus points for the owners for shoveling the driveway/path into a pile by our cabin for the boys to play in. They got a personal little ramp to sled off of!

This is my absolute FAVORITE place to stay while in Big Bear! My wife and I recently stayed here for our honeymoon and the owners of the lodge had a nice note and Champaign waiting for us in our room! We've stayed here about 3 times and every time our room is clean and the owners are very kind! We love it here and we'll never go anywhere else. Perfect quiet place for a couple to getaway ! Another plus side..its pet friendly!! So we can bring along our little Chihuahua

I am one of corps of repeat guests of this quiet little lodge. For many years my dogs and I have escaped the flatland heat and noise in mountain cabins. I have seen it all, so I always arrive at a new place with a critical eye. Pulling in my first time a few years ago I instantly knew I had made a good decision on this one. Lots of trees in good condition and very spacious grounds. The compound was clearly maintained on a daily basis as everything was raked, swept and in order. Lots of sweet little flower patches here and there. The exteriors of the cabins were in great condition and everything was cohesive. I have stayed in all three cabin types and they have always been immaculate. The kitchen is stocked in a logical way with everything needed to make a meal unless your making a turkey. Cooks; as always, bring your own knife. Bathrooms and bedding have always been equally spotless. Even the drawers are clean inside. Most wonderful of all: Everything Works! After years of unfortunate surprises when I arrive at a new cabin I go through a long checklist involving everything from does the TV work is there any heat or hot water is the bed ready to collapse etc. Inevitably there is something that needs to be addressed before everybody goes home for the evening. Except here. I have never had to troubleshoot anything here. There are no sticky windows, wonky blinds, nightmarish entertainment systems, noisy heaters or drippy faucets and sticky doors. This is the Gold Standard of Mountain ca maintenance The setting is by itself in Fawnskin a tiny village -half ghost town- on the quiet Northside cove. Big bear proper ,where I often stay, is not a quiet place from Thursday night through the Weekend. Very bad karaoke and motorcycle noise echoes up the canyons well into the evening. It's really not that much different from the west side of LA; except for the Pine trees. Here, once night falls and the Harley riders are off the highways and bellying up to the bar in Big Bear a wonderful forest quiet takes over at the Lodge. It's all about the birds chirping and the coyotes howling in the distance. There are lovely vistas of the forest and the lake with the ski slopes in the distance. It is peaceful here. Cabin 2 is on the edge of the vast marsh and lake. Its cozy and romantic. Cabins 3 and 4 are bigger and really comfortable. Plenty of room. All cabins have comfortable furniture that is sized and arranged nicely. The decor is nicely restrained. Warm and rustic. No dozens of dusty and tacky knickknacks here. The owners are friendly and devoted to this sweet little sylvan enclave. This is a special spot in the Big Bear area for a quiet, forest stay in modern, civilized cabins. Looking forward to my next stay.

This is our second time staying here at the Quail Cove Lodge. We always stay in Cabin 2 - which is great for couples - as it has mountain and lake views. Great little cafe called North Shore Cafe is in walking distance as is a little market. The cabin so has a bar b q grill, ample space for lounging and a small full kitchen. We will definitely return.

They had a fantastic session with Cris Gallardo. They found him to be helpful, attentive to their needs, and easy to work with. Meanwhile, my daughters and I enjoyed base camp. The wristbands for unlimited 'adventure' activities is a fair price. We also packed our own picnic lunch and had a lovely afternoon. We had last visited Snow Summit two years ago and I was worried that now as young teens, they would find the activities too babyish, but they really enjoyed the climbing wall, euro jumpy, and zip line. Before heading home, we enjoyed ice cream cups from the gift shop. I was also happy that the bathrooms (by the zip lines) were very clean. I will also add that we visited on a Friday in mid-July, and it was not crowded at all.

This particular location doesn't feel large and since it was kind of sunny and a weekday, I think a lot of the trails and some of the lifts were shutdown during my visit. Not a big deal at all since my goal was to avoid large weekend crowds and shake off my personal cobwebs and just enjoy myself at my own speed. Getting my pass ready at the entrance using my phone, emails, and the app was pretty straightforward. Once I got that situated, I was able to start making my way to the first main lift and head up. The crowds during a weekday (early 2/2026) were so small, I was able to take my own chair up without having any traffic behind me. I can't speak for experienced skiers and snowboarders since even a decade ago, I would consider myself a solid intermediate snowboarder (that didn't do any tricks) and I will say it's a solid resort especially what I was looking for. I was able to go down the trails and constantly go up the lifts so quickly and my muscle memory all started coming back albeit with a few minor spills. After a while, I wanted to grab a beer and make my way over to Big Bear since I had the pass that allowed me to experience both parks. Definitely a solid snow resort that isn't too intense and is great for the proximity of people who live in the LA/ IE area.

We had 2 pillows for 2 beds (extras weren't available), but what looked like a handyman did show up with extra bedsheets that were rolled up in a bowl and held against his dirty clothes. The overhead light was broken, the floors were absolutely filthy, the windows were off track and couldn't stay open or lock. The hot tub, which was the main reason we rented this cabin, is cracked and peeling and was dirty on arrival. I bought cleaning supplies before I realised that the hot tub was completely unusable. When water hit the basin it threw little pieces of peeling of paint into the water. The kitchen was an absolute disaster. It was listed as a usable kitchen with lots of amenities. Upon arrival we found, 2 plates, 1 saucer, no bowls, 2 glasses (that didn't match) no wine glasses. We had to ask for wine glasses and when they arrived it was 1 wine glass, 1 champagne glass both very dirty. All of the cutlery was mismatched, dirty, and not a complete set. Dirty pots and pans were in a cabinet. There were no trash bags, a broken paper towel holder, no supplies to wash or dry dishes. However, there was a sign saying if you left dirty dishes behind they would charge you. There were also no kitchen towels or pot holders. In the bathroom, we found a broken toilet paper holder, broken bathroom mirror , 1/4 roll of toilet paper, no shampoo, conditioner, or soap. There were only three towels so we had to ask for extra towels. We were given towels with large holes that smelled. There was no bathmat, a torn shower curtain with no shower curtain liner. The hairdryer dryer was missing from the wall and when we asked for one an hour later one showed up brand new in the box obviously had just been purchased at the store. The grounds were filthy as well. Trash was everywhere as well as broken appliances stored behind and underneath other cabins. Someone lives at the facility and let their small child scream and yell even pass the quiet hours. We contacted the manager multiple times and when we gave a list of complaints, they didn't respond until before our checkout reminding us to be out on time so they're cleaning crew could access for the next person. We asked for a partial refund due to the fact the amenities listed were not there so we had to go out and purchase them, as well as the fact that we could not use the hot tub and that is the main reason we rented the place. We were told they don't trade refunds for good reviews.
