We have stayed at The Outpost on two different occasions within the last 4 months! We love this place! We always stay in cabin 5. The mayor of Fonskin is the owner and is so nice! Fonskin is the quiet side of Big Bear! We usually go out to eat at the many restaurants in Big Bear lake which is only 15 minute drive. The cabins have fridges and microwave and stove and we have also made dinner in the cabin. The cabins are always very clean! And you are very close to Jackie and Shadows nest when you stay here! read more

The most magical place to stay in Southern California! My husband and I have stayed here 10+ times, and it is by far one of our favorite places in this world. The staff is super friendly, and professional, the cabin is incredibly clean and stocked with everything we would need, and our dog loves staying here. The location is just a short 10 minute drive to The Village, and walking distance to the lake, while there are countless OHV trails to explore if you're an enduro rider. Cannot recommend The Outpost enough. read more

We absolutely love staying at The Outpost, and we stay there frequently. The location on the North side of the lake is great because it is close enough to all that Big Bear has to offer, but is more peaceful and quiet. It's also super close to OHV and hiking trails which is perfect for us. The décor is cute, the cabins are super clean, and we love to use the fire pit in the common area. I stayed in Cabin #2 - I forgot to take pictures because I was just enjoying my time in the mountains so much but the pics online give a great idea of the cabin. Huge bathroom/shower, spacious bedroom and cozy/modern cabin vibes overall. Great porch to watch the sun go up/down with a drink -- I enjoyed the bench swing right by. The property is SO clean and well-maintained and I really enjoyed how beautiful it looked with the string-lights at night. I can't wait to come back during the winter time to use the fireplace! Plus, the blankets provided at the communal fire pit I thought was a great touch. There were so many little details here and there to make the stay feel perfect! read more

Just on the outskirts of Big Bear but a huge difference in pricing is how we originally found Quail Lodge. I'm really thankful we did though because I LOVE that we're in our own cabin & the 1 neighbor only has the kitchen as the shared wall. You get your own wood marked parking spot, front yard and side yard. There's 5 cabins total and it's a cozy place to stay. The owners are more than helpful & available 9am-9pm. I stayed in cabin #3 but all cabins include a full kitchen. Dishes, glasses, rags, dish soap, a microwave & fridge are all included. There's a basket of toiletries as well as coffee, sugar, etc. Just a side note...spices, condiments and paper towels are not provided, so if you plan on cooking, pack accordingly. There are some things that they can lend/give such as a colander, foil (which I forgot) or some cooking oil. There's a Super Kmart relatively close by as well as a Vons for anything missed. Towels are clean, the beds are comfy, the heater works VERY well, the water comes out perfectly heated & there's complimentary wi-fi as well as basic cable. Definitely coming back as well as recommending to friends & family!!! P.s. Extra bonus points for the owners for shoveling the driveway/path into a pile by our cabin for the boys to play in. They got a personal little ramp to sled off of! read more

We spent three nights in cabin 5 and when we weren't out on the lake fishing or riding the Alpine Coaster, our kids entertained themselves at the lodge playing foosball, cornhole, and making s'mores by the fire. I am one of corps of repeat guests of this quiet little lodge. For many years my dogs and I have escaped the flatland heat and noise in mountain cabins. I have seen it all, so I always arrive at a new place with a critical eye. Pulling in my first time a few years ago I instantly knew I had made a good decision on this one. Lots of trees in good condition and very spacious grounds. The compound was clearly maintained on a daily basis as everything was raked, swept and in order. Lots of sweet little flower patches here and there. The exteriors of the cabins were in great condition and everything was cohesive. I have stayed in all three cabin types and they have always been immaculate. The kitchen is stocked in a logical way with everything needed to make a meal unless your making a turkey. Cooks; as always, bring your own knife. Bathrooms and bedding have always been equally spotless. Even the drawers are clean inside. Most wonderful of all: Everything Works! After years of unfortunate surprises when I arrive at a new cabin I go through a long checklist involving everything from does the TV work is there any heat or hot water is the bed ready to collapse etc. Inevitably there is something that needs to be addressed before everybody goes home for the evening. Except here. I have never had to troubleshoot anything here. There are no sticky windows, wonky blinds, nightmarish entertainment systems, noisy heaters or drippy faucets and sticky doors. This is the Gold Standard of Mountain ca maintenance The setting is by itself in Fawnskin a tiny village -half ghost town- on the quiet Northside cove. Big bear proper ,where I often stay, is not a quiet place from Thursday night through the Weekend. Very bad karaoke and motorcycle noise echoes up the canyons well into the evening. It's really not that much different from the west side of LA; except for the Pine trees. Here, once night falls and the Harley riders are off the highways and bellying up to the bar in Big Bear a wonderful forest quiet takes over at the Lodge. It's all about the birds chirping and the coyotes howling in the distance. There are lovely vistas of the forest and the lake with the ski slopes in the distance. It is peaceful here. Cabin 2 is on the edge of the vast marsh and lake. Its cozy and romantic. Cabins 3 and 4 are bigger and really comfortable. Plenty of room. All cabins have comfortable furniture that is sized and arranged nicely. The decor is nicely restrained. Warm and rustic. No dozens of dusty and tacky knickknacks here. The owners are friendly and devoted to this sweet little sylvan enclave. This is a special spot in the Big Bear area for a quiet, forest stay in modern, civilized cabins. Love! Love! Love this place. Been coming here since it's previous ownership. It's a great place for family because you can all rent your individual cabins and kids are safe since it's in a cul-de-sac. There is a fire pit and chairs in the middle of the cul-de-sac which is fun for evening s'mores! Each cabin has its own little kitchen and fireplace, making it super cozy. Since the previous ownership, there have been some nice upgrades and updating to the cabins. It's also pet friendly!! We don't go anywhere without our pets. BUT...the pet fee is quite pricey. It was raised with the new ownership. It's more than double any hotel/motel/airbnb/cabin we have stayed. This is the only reason I'm not giving it a 5/5. We would be able to afford to come more often if the pet fee was more comparable to most places. read more

A diamond in the woods! After a harrowing drive there, car broke down had to be towed. Had to ride on a flat bed in the car with 3 adults, a dog and Thanksgiving day meal for 40 mins. Showed up and one of the owners came out to greet us and make sure all was OK. Cabin was clean, cozy and quaint. Could not have asked for more. Peaceful, lots of games to play and plenty of places to walk the dog. There is no better place in Fawnskin. Will be back for sure. Kudos to the decor and amenities provided. read more

This is our second time staying here at the Quail Cove Lodge. We always stay in Cabin 2 - which is great for couples - as it has mountain and lake views. Great little cafe called North Shore Cafe is in walking distance as is a little market. The cabin so has a bar b q grill, ample space for lounging and a small full kitchen. My wife, daughter and I really enjoyed staying here. We stayed in cabin 5 and it was very relaxing, peaceful and quiet. I love the location, being outside of the town of Big Bear in Fawnskin is less crowded and no traffic. Near the cabin is a creek that runs in to Big Bear lake and behind the post office across the street is an open area that my daughter enjoyed playing in the snow. The owners are very nice and knowledgeable of the area. The cabin itself was very clean and cozy, it was perfect for the 3 of us. My daughter made smores in the fireplace and the WiFi kept her busy on her iPad. I recommend staying at Quail Cove Lodge! read more

I love Big Bear and have been going for over 25 years, since I was a kid. I've been to many different cabins and lodges through the years. So in doing so, and since having 2 toddlers, I have a lot of preferences for what I look for in a cabin now: 1) Very CLEAN 2) ON the lake 3) With a wood buring Fireplace 4) Reasonably Priced 5) With a full kitchen and at least 2 beds 6) Dog-friendly, but doesn't smell like dogs 7) A quiet cabin In a quiet area off the main highway 8) Consistent 9) Great Hospitable Customer Service I word "JACKPOT!" My husband, kids and I stayed at cabin #5 last weekend and it was a perfect weekend. We had gorgeous sunny skies Fri and sat that made the hikes gorgeous, then Sunday it started to snow and we got 6 inches of fresh powder overnight and we played in fresh powder for hours afterward with snowmen, sledding, snowball fights, snow angels (the whole shebang). The cabin was totally clean. I've been starting to have an issue with pillows in hotels and cabins since a bad stay at another cabin in big bear during the summer. This cabin felt clean in every way. It had all the kitchen supplies to make everything for the meals all 3 nights we were there and I even made a birthday cake and snow ice cream :) There are some easy trails within 5 minutes drive and I love that we aren't right in the middle of downtown Big Bear. It is located across the lake in Fawnskin, where you can see the slopes of Big Bear ski resorts and away from the heavy traffic. I called Quail Cove directly to book my reservation and Grace helped me with reserving and check-in, and she was really nice and informative. We had absolutely no issues. I love supporting small businesses and this is one business I think yelpers are going to love. It isn't the most luxurious cabin you will ever stay at, but the perfect little cabin to hunker down in and start family traditions at the lake. My kids absolutely loved the whole experience from the moment they stepped into the cabin, and there was not a moment of boredom or whining for 4 days! ****There is a creek that has excellent fishing in the spring right behind the cabin that I can't wait to try with the toddlers. read more

Like everyone else has said this place is lovely. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The cabins are CLEAN! They provide shampoo, conditioner and even samples of Advil in the bathroom just in case. I think that is pretty cool. The also have an iron and ironing board which is always nice. They have coffee and liners for the coffee pot. Really if you want a nice quite cabin to stay in this is it. We have stayed in many cabins in different places and for some reason none of them has been kept up as well as this one. You won't be disappointed. read more

I highly recommend this beautiful Quail Cove Lakeside Lodge! The owners Craig & Grace are the nicest couple and they made us feel so very welcome! I booked a reservation with 4 of my girlfriends (and on a super tight budget!) and we each were so spoiled by having our very own private cabin...on the Lake! The price was so low...and it was just picture perfect and so beautiful. One of girlfriends called her husband and he joined her when he heard it was so beautiful & romantic! They have a great little kitchen and fireplace too! We stayed for 3 days...but we all wanted to stay longer! The location is set back in a very woodsy setting, yet we walked into town nearby and there was a Renaissance Fair going on and we had a blast. Also, we had front row seats to a fun Car Show and that was super fun for everyone. At night they have this incredible huge fire pit with real wood logs (sorry...I'm a real City Girl!) to relax and tell stories with your friends in the quiet and gorgeous wooded setting...like out of a movie. We stayed in Cabin No. 2 for two nights this June and could not be happier with the cleanliness, location, size, amenities, style, and comfort of this little cabin near Big Bear Lake. Grace and Craig are friendly and helpful, and I have little doubt that we'll be back again in the future. Fawnskin is a lovely little town, and the main drag of Big Bear (the Village) is easily accessible; as are the hiking trails and Big Bear Discovery Center of the North Shore. Enjoy! read more

I give 5 stars and I haven't even completed my stay. The owners are so sweet and verrrry professional about their complex. They let you know EXACTLY what NOT to do and then what is ok with their policies. I feel like I am at home here and I've been here for only 5 hours. It is a ma and pa shop deal and they have done a very good job. They supply you with pretty much everything and that's so important. I payed 120 a night and I'm here for 3 days and I can't wait to finish my adventure here. If you have dogs they accept but they don't let you leave them there which may be a buzz kill for others but for us it's fantastic Cuz we don't leave our loved ones anywhere ever. Simply fantastic. The cabins are on the quiet side of the lake. The cabins are well kept, I heard they were recently renovated. The fireplace is simply wonderful! And when I looked up at night outside the cabin, I'd almost forgotten that the sky could be as dark and breathtaking as this - sigh - city folks. Everything's absolutely wonderful about the cabin. The only thing was I couldn't find the darn switch for the kitchen exhaust (cabin 3), so when I had to use the stove once late at night the smoke alarm pretty soon went off. But it's all good, the place was great! There's a creek behind the cabins which leads to the lake. Wild ducks going up about their way on the creek that morning pleasantly woke me up. read more

The cabins are quiet, clean and cute and felt like a home away from home. Was looking for some peace and serenity away from the world (and escape the desert heat) and found it here. Was planning on camping my 3rd night there but couldn't tear myself away from the cute little cabin. We didn't feel comfortable, it did not feel like a vacation, no visitors allowed , and we couldn't use the heater nor make noise. The staff was incredibly rude they screamed at me in front of the kids. They made us feel uncomfortable, for example they would check on us every hour. Ultimately I do not recommend this place to anyone plus the cabin was the size of a restroom in any other hotel. We enjoyed a lovely romantic weekend in Cabin #2, with a view of the lake and a nice private deck and BBQ. The cabin is a studio with a little kitchen, and a fireplace in the bedroom area. Very quiet, cozy and private. No common walls with other cabins. The owners are super friendly, and the property is spacious, pretty and well maintained. The cabin was cute, clean, and nicely appointed, with everything we needed to cook and eat meals in if we wanted to. It's close by Big Bear and the slopes, but far enough away from the fray to enjoy the peace and quiet when you want to relax. One caveat is that the AM sun shines directly in the bedroom window, and there are no drapes, so bring a sleep mask or prepare to get up with the sun. There are mini blinds for privacy, but they don't block out any light in the day time. All in all an excellent value. We will definitely be going back again! read more

I absolutely love this cabin site! The owners on site are so nice and helpful, they make you feel at home. They do an amazing job keeping the cabins and site clean and organized. All the cabins are fully equipped with appliances, eating, drinking and cooking utensils, (The refrigerator was spotless!!) which makes it so convenient if you plan on making your own meals. Don't be turned off by the lack of water in the lake, you'll still have a great time and enjoy your stay. I recommend it to anyone. Great value and they take pride in their property! read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! Our visit was in the late 2017. DO NOT STAY HERE! This tiny and I mean tiny cabin, 150 Sq Ft. is cramped, old and incredibly drafty and has not been remodeled for decades. The appliances and everything in the place are over 30 years old. Oh they do have a horrible $20 microwave that is a piece of junk! The tiny 27 inch 10 year old flat screen TV with a bent stand and the falling apart Satellite Box with a taped together remote were the worst! Dishes, glasses and utensils were dirty, cheap and bent. We stayed there for a few days, wanted to leave after the first night, what a mistake and never again!!!! The gas heater, located by the front door was not enough for this TINY cabin as the bedroom was incredibly cold and drafty the entire stay day and night. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! The owners looked like they retired here and have no idea how to manage a rental property nor how to treat paying customers. They are rude, disrespectful, overbearing, and don't make a sound or go in and out they are always watching!!!! AND NO VISITORS!!!!! This is like a bad movie..... They acted like they were doing us a favor letting us pay rent and freeze to death in this no frills cabin. No amenities and the grounds looked like a frozen tundra!!! Do yourself a favor DO NOT STAY HERE! read more

The drive around the lake on the North Shore is beautiful, and the Innkeepers are very welcoming. They are very knowledgeable about the area and can suggest some great restaurants as well as local activities and good hikes close by. This is our 2nd time at Quail Cove and while we love the cabins, hence the reason we came back. On our way home, I get a call from the owner that we put a hole in the coffee table - the hole was there when we arrived. When I tried to explain that to the owner he got nasty and said he knew we did it and we could continue to go back and forth about it but he knew we did it. It really put a damper on the fun couple of days that we had there. Super disappointed with the phone call and when I got home, I checked my credit card and was charged $50. We were looking forward to booking again but after the call and the credit card charge, we will find a new place to stay. read more
