    Our cabins 3 & 4

Had an amazing stay at the outpost. The cabins are quaint, well maintained and comfortable. The views and local area are outstanding. Would definitely stay again!

We have stayed at The Outpost on two different occasions within the last 4 months! We love this place! We always stay in cabin 5. The mayor of Fonskin is the owner and is so nice! Fonskin is the quiet side of Big Bear! We usually go out to eat at the many restaurants in Big Bear lake which is only 15 minute drive. The cabins have fridges and microwave and stove and we have also made dinner in the cabin. The cabins are always very clean! And you are very close to Jackie and Shadows nest when you stay here!

I stayed in Cabin #2 - I forgot to take pictures because I was just enjoying my time in the mountains so much but the pics online give a great idea of the cabin. Huge bathroom/shower, spacious bedroom and cozy/modern cabin vibes overall. Great porch to watch the sun go up/down with a drink -- I enjoyed the bench swing right by. The property is SO clean and well-maintained and I really enjoyed how beautiful it looked with the string-lights at night. I can't wait to come back during the winter time to use the fireplace! Plus, the blankets provided at the communal fire pit I thought was a great touch. There were so many little details here and there to make the stay feel perfect!

We stayed at cabin #3 (see pics). Plenty of cooking utensils. Comfy. Completely happy with our stay. We had such a great time. Will stay here again the next time we are in Big Bear. Service: 5/5 Jolene, the owner, was pleasant and accommodating. We ran out of cooking oil. She brought us a bottle to use for our omelette. Just on the outskirts of Big Bear but a huge difference in pricing is how we originally found Quail Lodge. I'm really thankful we did though because I LOVE that we're in our own cabin & the 1 neighbor only has the kitchen as the shared wall. You get your own wood marked parking spot, front yard and side yard. There's 5 cabins total and it's a cozy place to stay. The owners are more than helpful & available 9am-9pm. I stayed in cabin #3 but all cabins include a full kitchen. Dishes, glasses, rags, dish soap, a microwave & fridge are all included. There's a basket of toiletries as well as coffee, sugar, etc. Just a side note...spices, condiments and paper towels are not provided, so if you plan on cooking, pack accordingly. There are some things that they can lend/give such as a colander, foil (which I forgot) or some cooking oil. There's a Super Kmart relatively close by as well as a Vons for anything missed. Towels are clean, the beds are comfy, the heater works VERY well, the water comes out perfectly heated & there's complimentary wi-fi as well as basic cable. Definitely coming back as well as recommending to friends & family!!! P.s. Extra bonus points for the owners for shoveling the driveway/path into a pile by our cabin for the boys to play in. They got a personal little ramp to sled off of!

This is my absolute FAVORITE place to stay while in Big Bear! My wife and I recently stayed here for our honeymoon and the owners of the lodge had a nice note and Champaign waiting for us in our room! We've stayed here about 3 times and every time our room is clean and the owners are very kind! We love it here and we'll never go anywhere else. Perfect quiet place for a couple to getaway ! Another plus side..its pet friendly!! So we can bring along our little Chihuahua

I am one of corps of repeat guests of this quiet little lodge. For many years my dogs and I have escaped the flatland heat and noise in mountain cabins. I have seen it all, so I always arrive at a new place with a critical eye. Pulling in my first time a few years ago I instantly knew I had made a good decision on this one. Lots of trees in good condition and very spacious grounds. The compound was clearly maintained on a daily basis as everything was raked, swept and in order. Lots of sweet little flower patches here and there. The exteriors of the cabins were in great condition and everything was cohesive. I have stayed in all three cabin types and they have always been immaculate. The kitchen is stocked in a logical way with everything needed to make a meal unless your making a turkey. Cooks; as always, bring your own knife. Bathrooms and bedding have always been equally spotless. Even the drawers are clean inside. Most wonderful of all: Everything Works! After years of unfortunate surprises when I arrive at a new cabin I go through a long checklist involving everything from does the TV work is there any heat or hot water is the bed ready to collapse etc. Inevitably there is something that needs to be addressed before everybody goes home for the evening. Except here. I have never had to troubleshoot anything here. There are no sticky windows, wonky blinds, nightmarish entertainment systems, noisy heaters or drippy faucets and sticky doors. This is the Gold Standard of Mountain ca maintenance The setting is by itself in Fawnskin a tiny village -half ghost town- on the quiet Northside cove. Big bear proper ,where I often stay, is not a quiet place from Thursday night through the Weekend. Very bad karaoke and motorcycle noise echoes up the canyons well into the evening. It's really not that much different from the west side of LA; except for the Pine trees. Here, once night falls and the Harley riders are off the highways and bellying up to the bar in Big Bear a wonderful forest quiet takes over at the Lodge. It's all about the birds chirping and the coyotes howling in the distance. There are lovely vistas of the forest and the lake with the ski slopes in the distance. It is peaceful here. Cabin 2 is on the edge of the vast marsh and lake. Its cozy and romantic. Cabins 3 and 4 are bigger and really comfortable. Plenty of room. All cabins have comfortable furniture that is sized and arranged nicely. The decor is nicely restrained. Warm and rustic. No dozens of dusty and tacky knickknacks here. The owners are friendly and devoted to this sweet little sylvan enclave. This is a special spot in the Big Bear area for a quiet, forest stay in modern, civilized cabins. Looking forward to my next stay.

This is our second time staying here at the Quail Cove Lodge. We always stay in Cabin 2 - which is great for couples - as it has mountain and lake views. Great little cafe called North Shore Cafe is in walking distance as is a little market. The cabin so has a bar b q grill, ample space for lounging and a small full kitchen. We will definitely return.

From the moment we walked into Sierra Blue Hotel & Swim Club, we knew we picked the right place. The aesthetic is incredible -- vintage charm from the original Thundercloud Lodge blended perfectly with modern, rustic chic design. Thoughtful artwork, cozy textures, and designer-inspired rooms make it feel stylish yet warm. It's a full-service hotel right in the heart of the Village -- one short block to the lake, shops, and restaurants (and right across from the bowling alley). Easy parking and EV charging available, which is a huge bonus. Janet, Maddie, and Louie greeted us and were absolutely amazing. Genuine, welcoming, and thoughtful. They even gifted us complimentary mugs and were so kind to our son, giving him a patch for his jacket or hat. That kind of hospitality stands out. And the freshly baked s'mores cookies? Unreal. Warm, gooey, perfectly toasted marshmallow and melted chocolate. Honestly better than DoubleTree cookies -- and yes, even better than the famous Disney park cookies. They're that good. Spotless room, beautiful Village views, pet-friendly, incredible service, and an unbeatable location. Five stars without hesitation. We'll absolutely be back -- especially for those cookies.

It was a double queen, I went back and informed the front desk and they didn't see my reservation details. Luckily I did have my confirmation email, first they claimed to not see the details of the room and I literally had to show him where to look in the email for the room. He switched out my room for a king size but it had NO fireplace, strike 1. They charged for parking which wasn't in the detail when I booked the room. And if you have a EV car it better be a Tesla( they should provide an adapter for none Tesla cars if I'm paying for parking). Strike 2. There was barely hot water when we took a shower. It was barely warm and we had to double up on the shower. Then this evening 7/28/26 the hot tube was broken with a paper sign saying "out of order" then went back to the room to maybe watch something on their television and the WiFi was down! Strike 3! Here is the thing, don't promise amenities if you can't provide them, and dismiss the guest when asked about it. When I book a hotel anywhere i look for specific things and if your establishment isn't able to provide it then you must accommodate. I won't be booking at this location again. The only good thing is that it's close to the village.

We chose a room with a kitchenette, and even for our short stay, it was a great convenience. Service is a little hit or miss. We called the front desk and the man who answered hesitantly said they'd tell maintenence. On our way out for dinner, we stopped by the front desk to remind them of our request and it was the same person who answered the phone. He was surprised and scrambled to find a sticky note to write it down. After all of that, we come back to the room to a note that it's been "fixed." The A/C and heat are controlled on the unit by the window itself, not the thermostat. So why not say that the two times we asked about it? However, I was disappointed that the bathroom in Room 363 already had some maintenance issues. The toilet was loose and wobbled every time we used it, and the shower handle was also loose and moved around when adjusting the water temperature. For a newer property, I expected these basic fixtures to be in better condition. The complimentary breakfast was a simple American-style breakfast with a few hot items, which was convenient but nothing particularly special. Overall, the hotel has great potential because it's clean and well maintained in general, but the maintenance issues in our room definitely affected our experience. Hopefully, management will address these problems soon, as this could easily be a 4 star stay with better attention to detail.

Thanks to Joel, we got to enjoy so much more than just a hotel stay. We had a bit of a rough start to our trip when one of my children got carsick on the drive up. Joel immediately stepped in with cleaning supplies and genuine kindness and concern. His compassion and willingness to help meant so much to me as a mom traveling with two kids. Since my husband was in town for work and couldn't help us the entire time, I was handling the kids on my own and wasn't very prepared for our last-minute trip. Joel went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and helped arrange a room closer to the entrance, which made a huge difference for us. The hotel itself was fantastic. Everything was spotless, the indoor pool was amazing, and the outdoor fire pits and s'mores nights created such a fun family atmosphere. My kids had an incredible time, and we enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to extend it for another night and spend another beautiful day in the mountains. Joel's exceptional customer service truly made this trip special. He is caring, attentive, and genuinely dedicated to making guests feel welcome. It was huge and the water was always super hot and the shower was hot right when I got out of the tub. A little soap goes a very long way with bubbles, proceed with caution. The room and the spa were very clean, there was a sticker on the door with the name of the person and the date that our room was sanitized which was reassuring to me. Once inside it smelled clean and everything looked clean. I did take a bottle of Odoban and did a once over but it was during COVID paranoia. Whenever I stay anywhere I strip the bed and put on my own sheets and blanket but when tearing the bed apart our white linens were very white and clean. I read reviews about a rouge hair or two and myself having very long dark hair I find it silly that it would be a huge deal, even in the most immaculate environment one is bound to pop up, trust me, I know but I understand with COVID everyone needs to be on top of their game with cleanliness. I found the location to be really convenient, it was close to everything we wanted to do. We had several exchanges with the owner, we checked in after midnight and she was friendly and professional. Since we were both working remotely due to COVID we decided we wouod like to stay another night if they could accommodate us and she was very courteous and made the process easy and that extra night actually turned into 3 extra nights! I suppose one could find the rooms dated, I personally felt like they were cute and cozy and felt cabin like,I didn't mind the decor at all. We stayed in cabin 16, I was able to scope out 17 and has been updated recently and is more modern. They both cost the same so I would probably go with 17 it's really the best bang for your buck. Finding our cabin at night was fairly difficult if you are able to check in during the day I would definitely say do that. We eventually found our cabin, they all look the same and aren't marked terribly well. The parking is a bit tight I came straight from buying a new fairly expensive car so I had to park a few different times until I was satisfied I would avoid a door ding but that was probably new car paranoia and if you don't arrive after midnight like a dummy you'll probably have a better chance at choice parking. Once in the cabin I saw there was one of those QR codes on the wall for you to scan and when you do they offer a coupon code that can't be applied retroactively of course so I was kinda bummed by that because it only required a 3 day stay to receive the discount and we stayed over twice that long so perhaps it could have been offered. I found it online as well so before you book look online for coupon codes because they're available. I found booking straight from their website was less expensive than Expedia and the other travel sites. For the price I think this place is unbeatable. Just when you thought I was going to shut up I pop back up... I forgot to mention that one night a family checked into one of the family cabins and they were out until after 10 pm and they were loud eventually I called Cathy at the number she provides for you to call if you need anything and within 5 minutes she had sent someone to take care of the issue. I'm not sure if any of the cabins are pet friendly but I know that the one we stayed in was not and that was really the biggest issue we had. I have a 4 pound Yorkie with separation anxiety and he's grown quite accustomed to going everywhere with me so we had to hire a pet sitter and I really missed my Lil guy! I wish they allowed pets of a certain size with a deposit. Other than that I can't wait until it's time to go back. We went in the last week of April for my birthday and the weather was perfect. Not too cold but you still definitely get that mountain experience and since it's the off season everything is very affordable. Remember to look for that coupon code online and to book through their direct website and the price is unreal.

And was not stable to move plus that was the only place to hang clothing. No drawers The mini sofa at the end of the bed was torn and poked your behind if you sat on it. Everything is done by text message, yet conflicts aren't resolved. It was our ;9 wedding anniversary. We were deeply dissapointed after reading other's posit reviews. We won't be back

I absolutely loved that there was a spot to do yoga or other movement classes! If you want to do a complete wellness day, you can take your mat to this beautiful open deck area (where your mat is shaded) and you have some mirrors. Once you finish your class, there's a sauna and cold plunge available to use to complete the perfect session! I didn't get to use the lodge much as I was visiting solo this time, but would love to use that nice big kitchen and the pool table next time This place is not super big, so everything is very walkable and in close proximity to each other! You can drive, walk, or even ride your bike to other restaurants and activities near by if you aren't too busy playing corn hole or lounging in the hammocks

Frank, the owner, is one of those rare people who is truly hands-on and genuinely cares about his guests. From the moment we arrived, he was communicative, kind, and incredibly attentive. You can tell this isn't just a business to him -- it's personal. What really stood out was his integrity. During our January stay, he went above and beyond to make sure our family was comfortable and taken care of, and he generously invited us back again in February. That level of hospitality and follow-through is something you just don't see often anymore. The space itself is peaceful, cozy, and perfect for a Big Bear getaway, but honestly, it's Frank's heart and character that make the place special. If you're looking for somewhere you can trust -- not just a place to sleep -- this is it. We'll definitely be back.
