This place was recommended from a friend of a friend so we decided to make the trek from Long Beach during rush hour to give it a try. We ordered the spicy hummus appetizer and the chicken kabob platter entrees with rice pilaf and one entree with the saffron couscous. Food was good, but not worth driving over during rush hour--there are equal and better Mediterranean restaurants closer to home. The restaurant provides a lovely indoor/outdoor ambiance along with live music. Just need to have the musicians turn the volume down several notches. This was a dining environment, not a concert. Our server was very nice and attentive. Would recommend this place for Downey locals. read more

We celebrated a birthday here last weekend and had an amazing experience! Food + drinks were delicious and service was top notch! Our server JJ was fantastic. He was so kind, extremely attentive, and did everything he could to make sure our visit was special. Before anything else, food and service was good. However, they are doing some shady transaction. We went to dinner with my family spending over $600. When it was time to pay, I noticed the receipt had a non-cash and cash amount. This is the first time I've seen that. When I asked them, they said every restaurant is doing that now. They showed me sign about the 3.9% change. First of all, the sign is smaller than the palm of my hand and it was posted at the register where guest can't see. Mostly importantly, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to do that without proper notification. That's basically a switch and bait. The gas station do that but it is posted publicly. That's considered a discount for using cash. So if you come here with a big group make you have $1000K cash on hand to pay. read more

Found this lively dinner spot on Yelp and took a plunge. It was great ! Perfect fusion of mediterranean and Italian delicacies. The drinks were really good. We ordered Chicken Piccata and Kings Kebabs and loved them both. Finished the dinner with Tiramisu which was OK - expected it to be more smooth and fluffier but it wasn't bad . Came here for brunch and it was great! We did have to ask for new mimosas because unfortunately we were served flat mimosas. We knew it was because they poured from a pitcher of it that was just sitting, no biggie, they came and replaced it and apologized. We tried the calamari, the spicy potatoes, and the hummus for appetizers. The flavor was bold and amazing. We tried the panini, the sliders, and three desserts and we were not disappointed at all! Delicious food but our server was SO rude. He was clearly overwhelmed and was taking it out on our table. He took a while to greet us, bring us water and drinks. When we asked about our drinks his response was "the bar is backed up but if you're THAT thirsty I'll go check". - excuse me what? What kind of service is that?? Obviously we're thirsty if we orders drinks. We chose to let that slide but that was completely rude and unnecessary. Didn't get his name but big latino dude with glasses - definitely did not deserve the auto gratuity that was applied to him. Do better sir !! read more

+4% extra charge if you use a credit card. Excuse me is this a restaurant or a gas station? With today's price hikes, restaurants need to be on point with pricing, location, ambiance, service, and the food. Overall the service was not bad for us, the waiter was friendly and things were brought out in a timely fashion. However overall the food was not that great for what you're paying for. This is a middle eastern restaurant, with overpriced dry meats and sub par apps/sides. At these prices the chicken , kefta, and salmon should not be dried out. Makes me wonder how they got all these Yelp reviews. read more

We came last night for dinner. The place was super busy as it was almost 8:00pm. Even though we had reservations at 7:30pm the hostess forgot about us, it wasn't until i reminded her about us that she sat us down. I understand she was extremely busy sitting down customers. We went to this restaurant to celebrate my mothers birthday. We were greeted and had the BEST customer service from Eloy. He went above and beyond from the moment we sat down. He was very attentive, informative, caring and kept checking in with us. We had the best experience with him and made the celebration that more joyful. The ambiance was cozy and chic and a great place for celebrations. Thanks to the chef and cooks for the delicious food. I've been to this place 3 times or so. The first time I went, we had typical Mediterranean dishes like gyro wraps and kabobs. They were ok but nothing great. I only returned here again because someone chose it for a bday dinner I was happy they did! The steaks here are great. They cook them perfectly and season them well. All the veggies served alongside them are also very tasty. I've had the porterhouse, surf and turf, and King Kabobs now. Definitely great cuts of meat. The drinks here are also great and strong! Recommend coming for happy hour! And don't forget to check in to get the free hummus! Service was fast when we got their attention but sometimes was hard to find them. I still like the hosts and how they are able to store your cakes in the fridge while you eat. Very nice decor and they just got some canopies for the outside patio! I got to visit again for lunch and it was another great experience! Love that the vibe is so fun during the daytime. We got the Grilled Lamb Chops and it was delicious. They really know how to make sure lamb isn't too gamey. Definitely get the baklava with pistachio ice cream for dessert - you won't regret it! This is definitely a good place for brunch with fun vibes. I enjoyed the ambiance. The servers were all great and attentive. Food: we got the shakshuka, fatoush salad with a side of chicken and hummus. Everything was amazing, but tbh, the shakshuka tasted like a fajita style shakshuka or something so I wouldn't get it next time especially if you're expecting an authentic dish and flavor. Came here for the first time with family as we were looking for something healthy to eat for lunch. Walking in the restaurant one could notice how much seating they have for in and outdoors. It appears they can also accommodate large parties. We ordered the ceasar chicken wrap and beef shish kebabs. If you check in on yelp, you get a free side of hummus. Went to The Olive for my birthday dinner, and they did NOT disappoint. The service was a bit slow, but since it was the Dodgers' World Series final, they definitely get a pass. I ordered the lamb chops, perfectly cooked to a medium rare, and they came with a side of creamy mashed potatoes that were just as good. The restaurant has a warm, cozy atmosphere; it's not too big, the bathrooms were clean, and the outdoor seating area had heaters, which was a nice touch. I wish I could show you a picture of my meal, but it disappeared way too fast! My mom, who's a pescatarian and not usually a fan of Mediterranean food, came along for my birthday and was pleasantly surprised. They offer a wide variety of non-Mediterranean dishes, including several Alfredo options and a pesto pasta she really enjoyed. And the customer service is the best your welcome with a beautiful smile every time. But one person who stood out to me was a server named JJ. 10/10 customer service super awesome dude very funny and was on top of us making sure we had our drinks refilled, pita bread hot and fresh and even had our heater outside adjusted to keep us nice and warm. I loved this place the first time I came, and I returned four days later, but the food and service could have been better the second time. Both times I sat outside, and the patio was great. Just be careful you're not sitting near a throughway or the back door; there is lots of movement. They have live music, a TV, high chairs, and fairy lights; the ambiance was set! I suggest getting the gyro, dynamite filet mignon, and the tabouli is good! I would skip the King & Queen, it has an excellent presentation, but the kabobs were a bit on the drier side and not worth the price point. They have a great wine and cocktail selection and nearly four different types of old-fashioned. The honey tastes like sugar, which makes perfect sense, but I want to let you know anyway. read more

I am not certain if Islamic law is a practice observed in the preparation of animal entrees. My guess it is not. But they have many non meat dishes on the menu.

If you decide to order the house specialty, the King's Kebab, I'd recommend letting them know how you'd like it prepared. The chef's choice of cooking it all the way through wasn't ideal for me--it made the meat a bit chewy. Asking for it medium will keep it softer and juicier. The same goes for the fries that come with it--they were softer than I'd hoped for and not as crunchy on the outside. So it's worth mentioning that when you order. Appetizers were delicious and portioned generously--perfect for 2-3 people to share. The King's Kebab platter itself easily feeds 2-3, depending on appetite. For dessert, the bread pudding with croissant-chocolate ice cream was well-balanced and not overly sweet. Just a heads up: it's more of a rich ice cream with toppings than an actual croissant dessert. They offer a nice wine list plus a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. We stopped by this place for lunch. We were greeted and seated right away since they had couple of tables available. Our waiter Carlos we very friendly nice and professional. For appetizer we had the loaded Labneh and Greek salad. The Labneh with their warm soft pita bread was really good and the salad was so fresh crisp and refreshing in a hot day like today. The ingredients were extremely fresh and they were prepared very nicely delicately and plated very elegantly and appetizing to the point that I didn't even take a picture of it and just dug in Food tasted really delicious and it was so well balanced and palatable. We both finished our food which it happens rarely. We were both full but the quality of food and the presentation was so good that we decided to share a Cream brûlée for dessert. That's really creamy and delicious too. All I can say is that if you are looking for a great food and amazing vibe this place is for you. The pricing at Olive Restobar is reasonable, making it a great place to visit for a casual dinner or drinks with friends. You can enjoy excellent food and drinks without breaking the bank. However, the service at Olive Restobar could use some improvement. While the staff is friendly, they may come across as a bit bland or indifferent. This can detract from the overall experience, but it is not a deal-breaker. With some small improvements in customer service, Olive Restobar could become an even more excellent dining destination. Girls' Night Out at The Olive - A Fun Friday Experience This was my second visit to The Olive, and it didn't disappoint! I loved the ambience on the patio--perfect for a relaxed evening. The restaurant was quite busy, which is expected since it's located in a busy plaza, so parking can be a bit tricky. The Happy Hour specials offered a lot of great options, which was a nice bonus. Service was excellent--our server, Bryan B., was friendly, attentive, and gave some great recommendations. The food was delicious overall; I had the chicken kebob plate, which was flavorful. However, I found the spicy hummus a bit blah, as it lacked the kick I expected, and the crème brûlée was just average. One thing to note: when paying, there's a surcharge for using a card, so keep that in mind if you prefer cash. Overall, it's a great spot with a lively vibe--perfect for a girls' night out, especially if you're catching a game. We got to enjoy watching the Dodgers beat the Padres in Game 5 of the NLDS, which made the night even better! read more

I visited Olive Restobar on a Friday for happy hour at 4:30 PM. The parking was congested and I had to park near Lazy Dog. Despite the busyness at that time, the hostess promptly seated my party of three. The restaurant had a lovely Christmas ambiance, complete with a beautifully decorated Christmas tree that added to the festive atmosphere. For food, I ordered one chicken kabob, one steak kabob, and a side of fries. The chicken was good and flavorful, while the steak was just average. As for drinks, I began with a hibiscus margarita. While it was visually stunning, it tasted artificial and lacked the freshness of a handcrafted drink. For my second round, I ordered a Cadillac margarita, which was well-crafted and strong. It was so strong I couldn't even finish it, but it's definitely the drink I would order again. Service was good, and overall, I would say Olive Restobar is worth a visit. I would return, though I'll likely stick to the Cadillac margarita next time! read more

So, I was really excited to check out this venue- all the reviews were raving, right? Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype for our group of eight. We'd had a reservation for weeks, but ended up squeezed into this weird L-shaped table at the sister venue next door. One of us was practically sitting sideways, which was a bit awkward! It was also super hot, and we had to flag someone down for water several times. It took ages to get our first round, and refills were few and far between. Our server was lovely but clearly swamped - he was like a friendly ninja, appearing and disappearing in a flash! We never even got his name. The food was...okay. Nothing to write home about, honestly. Just kind of average. My dad's King Kabobs (steak) were fatty, which was a bummer. All in all, for over $600, I'm not sure it was worth it. We were hoping for a much better experience. Maybe we just caught them on a bad night? But based on our visit, I'm not rushing back. read more

We had an incredible lunch at The Olive, made even better by the outstanding service from Daniel (bartender) and Oscar (waiter). Both were so attentive, friendly, and made us feel truly taken care of from start to finish. Every item we ordered was absolutely delicious each dish felt like its own journey of flavors. The NY Prime Steak was tender and perfectly seasoned, the Surf N Turf was rich and satisfying, and the Salmon Ceviche was the perfect fresh and zesty start to the meal. The drinks were just as impressive. The Aeporal Coco Margarita was refreshing and tropical, and the Lebanese Mule had a bold, balanced flavor that was so enjoyable. To finish, we had the Baklava with a scoop of ice cream a sweet, warm, and creamy dessert that tied the whole experience together beautifully.
