We happened to be in the area and really wanted to try this place based on reviews and their website. It is known if you want the best Middle Eastern anything, you go to Bridgeview area. The Nut House did not disappoint. I can confidently say that the Turkish delights were better than reputable places that I've had in the Middle East & France. They had such unique variations of Turkish delights, the pistachios in the center were so falvorful. And the baklavas were sublime, such unique variations. Both the knafeh Turkish delights (cherry), and the knafeh baklava as well as the almond baklava and cherry baklava were favorite. The staff was extremely friendly, we started with an idea of what we wanted, the kind lady helping us let us try several things that became instant favorites. The ambiance is very warm and welcoming, the staff is friendly and courteous. They even had good quality Jordanian Cardamon coffee to sample. This place reminded me of the things I missed most about spending a childhood in the South Suburbs of Paris... quality middle eastern food and deserts. It's very hard for me to leave this review as I really wanted to love this place (and I normally don't leave such a poor rating) - but the service was just terrible. I visited last month with my sister and I was immediately impressed by large selection of turkish delight and other candy. Halal gummies are hard to come by and they had plenty to choose from! But...there were flies buzzing around the turkish delight behind the glass pane. Still...worth a try I guess? However, service was incredibly slow. What should have been a 10 minute or less in-and-out visit became 40 mins of waiting around. What happened was my sister was ordering a large amount of turkish delight and gummies and every time she asked for a specific thing, the employee would ask another employee to check on it, proceed to help someone else besides us in line, and then the employee that was asked to help us would proceed to work on other things or help someone else. It was totally unorganized - in true "back home" fashion - however, I expected a bit better for a place that is so highly rated. I noticed that they were helping Arab people more quickly than non-Arab. Regardless, we aren't Arab and other people in the store were being helped and left quicker than us - despite the fact that we were there first. The last thing that really bugged us was when the cashier asked us to "wait a minute" after bagging us our treats. So we waited. And waited. We waited for maybe 5-10 minutes. And this cashier was going in the back for quite some time then finally came back up front and helped other customers besides us. We were totally ignored. We were reaching the 40 min mark of being in this store and we approached the busy cashier saying "do you still want us to wait?" And she said - " I need to print you our a receipt." My jaw dropped. SERIOUSLY?! We were waiting all that time for a receipt? Which could have been printed when our items were bagged?! Mind you, this tiny shop was very narrow - and extremely crowded the entire time. They were NOT limiting the amount of people in this store. They were NOT enforcing masks. Heck, the workers themselves had their masks around their chins! I was appalled. I am a nurse on a COVID unit so I do take mask wearing seriously. I was surprised this shop did not considering that there is a mask mandate in the Chicago area. I don't think I would risk coming here again unless they become better at customer service and enforce masks among their employees and customers. Highly recommend coming early if you want to avoid the crowds. read more

When having guests over your house (who does that anymore), you must always have a bowl of mixed nuts. I don't care how old or young you are, you always have a bowl out of mixed nuts. Before dinner, mixed nuts. After dinner, watermelon seeds. Yes, you heard me, watermelon seeds. And they are glorious. The Nut House is the dream place. Their seeds and selections are fresh and abundant, respectively. You can get seeds from Palestine to Egypt to Lebanon. You can also buy freshly ground Arabic coffee (which I do). You can't buy less than half a pound, which is a bummer, but it's ok. I drink it. The turkish delights! OMG the turkish delights! First, I am not much of a fan of these gummy halal desserts. I don't get them. HOWEVER, the Nut House gets them fresh and in great flavors! You can have oreo, pistachio, nutella, vanilla, and the list goes on. THey have your traditional types, and they aren't bad, but the modernized sweeter flavors will suck you in. They also have some fresh spices and chocolates. This place is a dream. I love coming in here because of the smell, the kind people and the goodies I leave out of it. I wish they had more locations, but it makes plenty of sense to be in the center of what tourists call, "Little Palestine". Chicagoans call it the South Side, or just simply, home. The nut house is a family favorite in my household. My parents have never been but about every month place a huge order from Jersey. I had the pleasure of visiting their Chicago location and it was nothing short of wonderful Arab hospitality, endless desert/nut/ candy options, and service that rates 10/10. Weather you're looking for seeds to snack on, halal gummies, or even desert to gift... everything was impressive. The nuts and seeds are VERY good quality. I mean my parents go through pounds by the month or two. We got some halal candy gummies for the road. I felt like a child in Jordan again. SOOO good. Such good quality. What a lovely shop! After lunch across the street, made sure to visit as it looked great online but it's actually better in person. This store is beautiful, pristine and the assortment of specialties is hypnotizing. When our group walked in, we were met by enthusiastic faces and hospitality by each and every person working. There's so much to see here and these guys were generous in telling us we could sample anything. They even walked up to us with things to try. What happened to Arab hospitality, I had the opportunity to visit both locations (New Jersey) and I'm not sure what it is about the service that no matter how packed it or or empty, the service is always underperforming. With a unique shop like this that isn't easy to find you'd think the service is just as rare and unmatched. I was excited to visit your store in Bridgeview on September 2 (after following your Instagram for a few months). The service was excellent and friendly. The products, however, were not. I purchased around $76 of nuts and Turkish delights. Everything except the plain loukoum were either completely stale or had stale components. I've always thought Turkish Delight was just the little Applet/Cotlet style cubes of fruit-flavored goodness. Nice enough, but I didn't understand why Edmund Pevensie would sell out his siblings to the White Witch of Narnia for it. Now that I understand that "Turkish delight" includes fancy rolls of nougat stuffed with fruit paste, nuts, etc., it makes sense. I'm writing this review mostly to get the keyword "nougat" added to the shop's keywords. While the traditional "Turkish Delight" here is very nice (try the orange!) it's the multiple varieties of multicolored nougat rolls that got me. I have never seen so many different varieties. The cherry nougat roll is to die for, and the cocoa/almond is just lovely. (If you don't love pistachios, this part of the store will hold little charm for you.) They also have a wide selection of plastic-wrapped single serving pieces (mostly nougat - more varieties than I've ever seen before, again), and some individually wrapped chocolates, mostly milk. The 2-3 dark varieties are very sweet, but nice - similar to, say, Ritter Sport. The individually wrapped cheap candies include, much to my astonishment, a Greek variety of pate de fruit - 24% fruit juice and something I'm used to buying for a lot more than $8/lb. I was going to go 4 stars, but they get a fifth star for that. Dang. I didn't try the rather-cryptically named custom spice mixes or the halvah, or the nuts. I did get some of the candied orange peel and strawberries (nice). Pricing is a bit confusing (the Turkish Delight nougat rolls are $X a pound with a limit of how many types of pistachio nougat you can get - but they're almost all pistachio), and if you're buying lots of the price-per-pound candies, while it appeared to be self-serve, you may want to have them gather it - I was sure I had the price per pound right and the candies properly separated and they assured me I didn't. They don't label the bags, so if you're buying some of everything from that section, you'll need to have them ring you up right away or confusion ensues. read more

They have a huge amount of different flavors that age blended together to produce a different taste than you have ever had before. This shop is full of absolutely delicious, fresh and beautifully presented sweets, nuts, coffee and some spices. The store is clean and almost like a little museum of delicacies.... making it impossible to choose just one thing. The Turkish delight and nougats come in many flavors and forms. They are cut on the spot from long rolls to create a custom box. Alternately they offer many prepackaged but also fresh beautiful boxes. The store can ship from online orders but it also has individually wrapped candies which are good for shipping.... chocolates and Turkish... One of the main things I like is the presentation of everything. It was extremely difficult to leave without buying a bunch of things. They fill bags or boxes for you and price by the pound so it is possible to try a lot of things by buying smaller amounts. The service was very good and they explained exactly where things came from and what they were. They took time with us which ultimately resulted in us walking away with more than we anticipated which was fine with us. Asides from the Turkish Delight, which is to die for, I would recommend trying various nuts and seeds which are freshly roasted. SOme of the nuts come from other countries. I'm not clear what is roasted in the store and what is roasted elsewhere. Regardless, we picked up some sea salted pistachios from Iran and a dried fruit and raw nut mix. Really exceptional!! and the fact that its all healthy and the kids love it too is a bonus. We sat around the dinner table together, oohing and ahhing over everything we tried. The nuts I've bought from Trader Joes or wherever pale in comparison. I'm so glad this place is close. We are coming back for sure.
