I'd been getting the MAE catalogs in the mail for ages and would throw them right into the…read morerecycling pile. I'd roll my eyes and think "I'm done with college, so why would I need this?" while happily tossing them. A couple of years ago, one ended up on the dining room table and I mindlessly started flipping through it. That was when I realized that they offer arts and crafts classes! Well, that was a game changer for me. I had never even heard of zentangle or needle felting, but when I read the descriptions, I was intrigued. My first class was Zentangle in 2015 and I had a great time learning this fun & easy drawing technique. I swore that I would continue it, but long story short, it didn't happen. Then in 2016 I took my first needle felting class with Elena Gibson and have taken 3 more since. I've made all kinds of critters, like foxes, a bunny, pig, squirrel and most recently, a troll for Halloween. I never would've tried it on my own, but with Elena's skillful and patient guidance, I found it to be easy and really fun to learn. The classrooms that I've visited are very clean and spacious and the locations of the classes are posted on an easel in the lobby, so it couldn't be easier to figure out where to go. Plus the location on Main Street is super convenient. My only complaint is that we have to pay the class fee beforehand, as well as an additional material fee in class. I find it to be a hassle having to investigate how much the fee is and then trying to remember to bring cash that day. I just wish there was a way to pay for the whole fee upfront. Other than this very minor complaint, I do enjoy taking classes here and plan to expand my horizons to other arts or crafts at some point in the future.
