Lunch with good friends.
Amy C.

Thursday, 2-05-2026: We met up with friends today for lunch. There was no wait and we were seated right away since our friends arrived before us. As usual the cafe elaborately was dressed up for Valentine's Day. Kudos to their decorators! This is a spacious restaurant that is very clean and it's beautifully designed & decorated. Their Halloween & Christmas decorations are off the charts and a sight to behold! We enjoyed great customer service, our friends' company, and fantastic food! I only ordered their flavorsome albondigas soup and everybody else got combo plates. This continues to be a favorite eatery.

Since my original three star review we have returned several times. I branched out and tried different menu items. So with all fairness in mind, I am updating my review. I liked their chile verde. The pork was tender and flavorful in a spicy green verde sauce, served with fresh corn tortillas. And the albondigas soup is a new favorite of mine. The restaurant is huge, and we have never had worry about being able to get seated right away.

Service was super fast and friendly. Although we were there on Taco Tuesday everything came out quickly and tasted great!

Took the salad home. Please find a better brand of bleu cheese and ranch dressing. Your current dressings are horrible.

10/30/25 Dinner 5:30-8:30 My Grandson is born on Halloween. He decided to have our family gathering here. 20% automatic gratuity for our group of about 24. We were seated in the family room and waited on by a very efficient waiter. He deserved that 20%. From the looks of it, everyone ordered and was satisfied with their meal. Me? I had a salad. I chose bleu cheese dressing. I already know to have ranch dressing as a back up plan, because most places have horrible bleu cheese. Well, my only complaint: BOTH BLEU CHEESE AND RANCH were horrible!!! I had to take my salad to go, so I could use my own dressing at home. Otherwise, such a nice hidden gem in Temecula. I say hidden because we've lived in Murrieta for 30 years and NEVER heard of this place. It was decorated so nicely for Halloween We should have been charged an entry fee, LOL! I hear they go all out for Christmas, too..... so I'm sure we will revisit. All in all, 5 well deserved stars for The Mexico Cafe

This place was decorated so good for Halloween!! Loved all the decorations. This was my first time trying this place, the drinks were really good and the bar area was nice with tvs to watch the games. Then they have a dining area option which was a little more quiet and nice for a girls night. Our waiter Ramon was very funny and nice! He was great. The blackberry margarita was really good.

We stopped in shortly after 7 on a Saturday night. I was anticipating a wait but they seated us immediately. A man quickly brought Chips and salsa to our table. A woman brought us water in short order. Our server stopped by for our drink order and came back shortly for our dinner order. I was shocked at how quickly our food came out. I want to say we were out the door about 30 minutes after we arrived. The older gentleman who was bussing tables and serving the chips and salsa and refilling waters was such a hard and efficient worker. It was impressive. I had the choke relleno plate and it was fine. My husband said his enchilada suizas were good. Fast service. Employees were polite. Decent food.

I took my Thai MOM here for a BELATED MOTHER DAY BRUNCH per her request. She wanted to avoid the crowd on Mother's Day and today seems to be the perfect non-crowded day to come and enjoy brunch with her and my tag along hubby... BTW, BRUNCH is only on SUNDAY! $34.99 or upgrade to $44.99 for unlimited mimosas!! FROM THE MOMENT you walk in: It feels like you have just entered a MANSION!! It's always BEAUTIFULLY decorative in all holidays. They have 3 banquet size rooms for service and 2 BARS! CHEERS!! SONG OF THE DAY to play along to this YELP REVIEW: SMOOTH by SANTANA... "Give me your plate, make it FULL or else forgot about it!" HIGHLY RECOMMEND: The POZOLE and the sweet corn with chile verde mini TAMALES! I went back TWICE for those! Also, don't forget to try all the salsas!! TACO STATION: Had 2 very hardworking & nice ladies there :) CAUTION: The TACOS are HUGE! VERY FILLING!! I wish they had carne asada, al pastor, cabeza and lingua! OMELETTE STATION: Had 2 hardworking guys there. They must be tired. Thank you and keep up the great work guys! BRUNCH: There was also an American breakfast which featured waffles, sausages, bacon, etc. My other favorite is the street corn. BIRTHDAYS: There were 3 birthdays happening within 2 hours that we were there. A lot of JUNE 1st BABIES on sight today! Feliz cumpleanos!!!! You get serenaded with a birthday song and provided a Mexican cultural sombrero!! HOW FUN!! WHAT a great place to CELEBRATE a SPECIAL OCCASION!!!!!! SERVICE: A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thank you to all the staff for being so welcoming and has smiles on their faces. GRACIAS!!! PARKING: MUCHO!! PLENTY!!!! We will be back because YOU'RE SO SMOOTH ;) ROCK ON THE MEXICO CAFE!!!!

The Mexico Cafe was recommended to us by our friends while we were in the Temecula Wine Country. It exceeded every expectation. The menu is varied enough to satiate every possible meal you'll be craving. The portions were VERY generous. We needed multiple boxes to take home our leftovers. They do eventually charge for tortilla chip and salsa "refills" so be aware. The ambiance and decor here is very "interesting" since it's called the Mexico Cafe but it is fully decked out in the Red White and Blue. Toby Keith would have been proud to eat here. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and plan on returning after our next visit to Wine Country.

I always enjoy coming to this restaurant, they decor is always festive and the food is good. The Deluxe Meat Tostada is SO big, definitely enough to share. I enjoy it with the ground beef. The chips and salsa here are tasty, too. Our server was very attentive as well. I will for sure continue to dine here.

Title: Grand Prize Winner - Worst Burrito in the World On 12 17 25, I confidently ordered the Burrito de Pescado. The description sounded delightful. Fresh. Promising. Hopeful. What arrived was not food. It was a crime scene wrapped in a tortilla. Imagine a tortilla the size of a throw blanket, generously stuffed with rice and sad, dried out chunks of fish that looked like they had lived a full life and were ready to retire. It was so bad it crossed the line from disappointing to impressive. Almost funny. Almost. Unfortunately, I was very hungry. Thankfully, my wonderful wife shared her mediocre but technically edible plate, saving me from starvation. Other diners reported similar experiences, describing their meals as "fair" at best, which in restaurant language means "I regret my choices." Service was also on a scenic tour: * Long wait to be seated, despite many open tables * Long wait for the waiter * Long wait for drinks * Long wait to order * Long wait for food It was less dinner and more endurance event. To be fair, the holiday decorations were festive and charming. Unfortunately, festive lights do not justify $240 for five people, each with one drink and one entrée. At that price, I expect at least one dish to be memorable for the right reasons. With so many excellent Mexican restaurants in the Temecula Valley, this one earns a polite but firm farewell. Adios, Mexico Café.

The food is always fresh, flavorful, and super satisfying - you can tell they put care into everything they serve. Portions are generous, and the prices are very affordable, especially for the quality you're getting. The service has always been friendly and quick, and the overall vibe is relaxed and welcoming. It's one of those places you can count on whether you're grabbing a quick bite or sitting down to enjoy a full meal. Definitely one of my go-to spots. Highly recommend!

So we placed are order. Wife asked for the 2 taco special with no sour cream. I order the same thing with no cheese or sour cream. I did that cause I'm lactose intolerant. The waitress stated that they can't substitute? I'm not substituting anything. Just don't add it. The "manager" came over and said we can't substitute? I stated I'm not substituting anything, just don't want cheese or sour cream. He said since they're busy cause of cinco de mayo they can't do it which tells me they can't handle a large amount of customers and there food they make in the back there cooks are auto pilot and get devate from the normal operation. We have been here before and "NEVER" had a problem with the way we ordered but today was an issue which tells me things are difficult especially if busy. We will not be back cause it was just a simple request and they couldn't fulfill that. We went over to Rosa's and tortilla factory which is down the street and it was good and "much cheaper ". I will never recommend Guadalajara to anyone anymore cause they couldn't handle a simple request.

With that being said, parking can be difficult because Old Town tends to get very busy on a Saturday. We walked in and it was not busy. The host/server told us to pick any table we would like. We chose outside, but they had just cleaned up the area, so our chairs were stacked. The host/server quickly helped us get the chairs down and place them at our table. The server was attentive and kept checking in on us. Now the food. When we were sat down, we were given complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were perfect and not overly salty or greasy. The salsa was very mild and had a great flavor. I ordered a 2 taco combo plate ($14.95) with carne asada and carnitas. The carne asada was just okay, it was cut into thicker piece, which is not my preference. It was also topped with guacamole, which was not the best I've had. The carnitas however were magnificent topped with pickled onions, cilantro, and salsa. The rice was not traditional Mexican rice and did have a bit of a crunch to it rather than a toast before cooking. The beans were just plain pinto beans, not refried beans, but they were good. While this place, is not extremely traditional, it is a great spot in Old Town Temecula with fairly good food. I'm looking forward to coming back again.

But recently... things changed. They removed their Friday happy hour, and honestly, that was the main reason I'd choose this place over others. Without it, the value just isn't there anymore -- especially when their cocktails run about $16, which is noticeably higher than the $11-$14 range you'll find at most comparable restaurants in the area. When I go out, I'm usually spending $120-$140 per visit, and that used to feel worth it here. Now? Not so much. The drinks are okay, not amazing, and definitely not worth premium pricing without any kind of incentive or happy hour. I still think the food is great and the live music vibe is unmatched, but removing happy hour while keeping drink prices high makes it hard to justify coming back as often -- if at all. The chips tasted a little different than what I'm used to, but I'm assuming that's just the style they use, so no issue there. She also handed us the drink menu, which was huge in a good way. The problem was that after that, we never saw our server again. We finished the chips and our water and waited about 24 minutes without anyone checking on us. Meanwhile, tables that arrived after us were already getting their food while we still hadn't even placed our order. We eventually asked another gentleman if he could help us find our server, and he ended up taking our order himself. After that, everything went fine. Food-wise, I ordered a California burrito wet with red sauce. Personally, the red sauce just wasn't for me, the appearance wasn't what I thought so I only had a couple bites and took the rest home. My wife really enjoyed her quesadilla though. Overall, I'd still give this place another chance because I really liked the atmosphere and environment. I'm choosing to see this as just a bad night rather than a bad restaurant.
