A Very Pleasant Stay…read more I'm the Blytheville area once or twice a year for business, my company either books me at the Hampton across the street or at the Holiday Inn. I've stayed here before and I've eaten at the Bistro. I really like this property, it's close to the highway, gas stations, and restaurants and Walmart and shops are minutes away. The staff is always friendly and treats me very well and this time like last time and the time before, I got a great room. The rooms are clean, modern spacious and have modern furniture. On this stay, I had a large King room with a couch and a chair in the living room area. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spotless and the wifi signal strong. These are all components of a good stay for a business traveller. Just a warning there is a little outdoor corridor that I stuck on as I went downstairs to the gym without my room card and got stuck outside for a few minutes. I always take the elevator now. The hotel has really nice fitness center with modern equipment the pool is a nice treat, and the Bistro has great food and craft beer (see my review). I ate finally in Perkins downstairs and had a really great breakfast. What can I say, I had a very uneventful, pleasant stay.

I've stayed with this chain before, and it's a step up from most of the franchised chains one encounters on the interstates. In over 50 years, the company has expanded to 150 inns in 30 states, under the brands of Drury Inn, Drury Plaza and Pear Tree Inns. The rooms and site are immaculate, facilities and amenities are well maintained, a complimentary breakfast is very extensive, and uniquely, they offer the free "5:30 Kickback" which is a happy hour with an extensive snack offering. A solid B+ on the amenities. I'll seek them out in my future travels.

First impression was the oddly-located single elevator in the middle of the lobby - yet facing away from the front door. Due to this and it being slow, the area becomes congested with those waiting for it, those coming through the hallway, and those accessing the breakfast area. Upon exiting the elevator, there was no signage and we had to guess our way down a long corridor that appeared to dead end...but that makes an odd jog around a staircase and then down another corridor. Although supposedly a non-smoking hotel, our room smelled like a smoker's home and my eyes began stinging since I'm sensitive to it. Upon calling the front desk - we were told there were no other rooms available. Based on the parking lot, I'm not convinced that was correct. We actually considered forfeiting our stay/payment and getting back on the highway, but decided to go on to bed. After being asleep awhile, a high pitched squeal began which I initially thought was the a/c unit. Eventually traced it to the mini fridge and ended up needing to unplug it so we could sleep. But no sleeping here! At 4:42 am, our neighbor's alarm started going off. The walls are thin & they would let the alarm go for loooong periods before hitting snooze. The first round went off solidly from 4:47 am to 4:53 am. This continued multiple cycles, with a brief break, and began again at 5:50 am for a couple addition cycles. I lost count, but 6+ cycles. Got up earlier than we intended, after such a night of broken sleep. We didn't attempt the breakfast, as the experience had been so poor already. Since there is a similarly outdated Drury on up the highway, I'm guessing this is one of the original locations...but it needs to retire from the brand. Was an unfortunately bad stay, and will have us rethinking our confidence in the brand.

The room was absolutely disgusting. First thing the floor looked like it wasn't even vacuumed, every drawer on every cabinet/desk was dirty and looked to have not been even wiped out. The bathroom floor was dirty, and the shower mat had black mold and smelled bad. Cigarette burns in bed spread and the room was designated as NON-SMOKING but smelled of stale cigarette smoke. The TV remote was so gross that I had to wrap it in toilet paper to turn on the TV. I didn't want to touch it and get sick. The lamp next to the bed had dust on the bulbs and base. No pride in ownership. ZERO is my rating. Spend the money and stay somewhere clean. (I had to leave at least one star or it wouldn't let me post.)

After that, about half an hour later, I arrived at the hotel and checked into the room. I showed my driver's license and Real ID, and I was also asked for a card. I assumed this card was needed only for a possible incident or as a security deposit. It was late at night, dark, and I was very tired. We went to sleep, and in the morning I checked out and left the hotel. However, two days after we checked out, the hotel charged my card again in the amount of $86. I contacted Priceline, and they told me that this should not have happened and that it was most likely a deposit, which should be refunded. However, the money has not been returned. I tried calling the hotel front desk, but they ignore my calls, refuse to speak English, and claim that Priceline did not charge the money and that the charge came from them. In other words, they deny responsibility and shift the blame. I believe this hotel is engaging in fraudulent behavior. Please be very careful. The staff and management appear highly suspicious.

We had already been driving about 8 hours at that point, since early morning. I was wearing grubby clothes since we were just stuck in the truck driving for the day, and we didn't expect this at all. While we had some water and snacks, being stranded in an old truck at high noon in 95° weather on the side of the road in an unfamiliar state was... not great. Not to mention, we couldn't get too far off the road because of the tire's condition - so staying in the truck was not a safe option. Staying outside with no shelter was also not an option, given the high heat and humidity. Thankfully, all of this happened on the highway just in front of the Blytheville Hampton Inn. A bit embarrassed, I asked the front desk if my Mom and I could sit in their air conditioned lobby just to get out of the sun for a bit. Not only were we welcomed, but we were given incredible hospitality for the five freaking hours it took for the rental company to call someone out to get the tire changed. They offered to drive us somewhere for lunch, gave us water and offered soda as well, and allowed us to sit and watch TV in their breakfast nook to pass the time. We were able to charge our phones and keep an eye on the truck. The staff didn't have to do or allow any of that. They could have told us to stand there, or sit in the front area or just outside. In our helpless moment, the kindness of these strangers was so, so appreciated. Especially as that helpless moment dragged on to five hours, they checked in on us, made sure we were hydrated, and asked about our progress. I can't imagine the two of us being out there for so long in the heat. Although for a bit I thought we would end up booking a room to stay the night because the repair was taking so dang long, we finally got fixed up and decided to just continue the trek and get it over with. I didn't get a chance to thank each of the staff that helped us, but this experience made me understand and value the Hampton/Hilton brand and level of hospitality. If you're reading this, please know how much we appreciated your kindness to two strangers on the side of the road.

The Internet was not very good, but the bed was extremely comfortable, the room was clean, and the linens and towels were new and decent quality. The morning staff was very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast offerings were plentiful. The night person on the front desk was not very warm or welcoming, but she did her job efficiently. The room keys had to be activated after 3 trips from the room to the front desk, the first room sink would not drain, the staff was not very hospitable at all. Comfort Inn was more than adequate, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, plenty of hot water, and breakfast was good, with eggs, meat, biscuits and gravy. Next trip thru Blytheville, I'll stay here again.
