If I could give more than five stars, I would. This is hands down the best jiu-jitsu and striking coach I've ever had. They don't just teach techniques--they teach discipline, respect, confidence, and how to be a better person both on and off the mats. Their passion for teaching and genuine care for every student is what sets them apart. Honestly, if it weren't for this coach, I probably wouldn't still be training today. I'm incredibly grateful for everything they've taught me and can't recommend them enough. read more

I started taking classes with Jessica a couple months ago and she is just amazing. I feel like she really takes her time to make sure I understand what's being taught. She is personal, relatable, understanding and PATIENT! I'm so excited she's on this mountain to help our community and children learn how to grow up and defend themselves. I would highly recommend giving her classes a try, you won't be disappointed. You'll not only learn a lot, you will have a ton of fun while doing so! read more

I couldn't have started Jiu Jitsu at a better place. Within days I felt apart of a tight knit community that truly cared for one another. I consider this gym a "We" gym not an "I" gym. It's a "We" gym because we all improve together and cheer each other on as we improve. At the lighthouse you'll be just as happy to see your teammates get promoted as when you're promoted. read more

I started w/ Jessica in Oct 2025 in the women's striking/Muay Tai class. It was my very first time ever attempting anything like this (I am 51 y/o). Jessica is patient, kind, knowledgeable and was able to take my own personal health history and tailor teaching certain moves to what I needed. She makes everyone feel safe and welcomed. I can say w/o a doubt my confidence has gained over the last few months and I found a love for striking. read more

This place changed my life. Jessica is amazingly patient and a very good teacher. I started with the women's self defense class, I just wanted to feel a little more safe/confident and ended up loving Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai more than I ever could have imagined. It was easy to be a beginner because the vibe in class is always perfect-low pressure, high encouragement and no negativity. The thing I was not expecting was that my health would improve so immensely from these activities. I have autoimmune diseases and have spent half my life in pain, I do not know exactly how it works but FOR ME, this place takes my pain away, so that, combined with all the amazing people who teach and the people who attend classes, it is the best experience every single time I go to a class. My 6 year old son also took classes for a few months and really enjoyed it (he playing sports right now) Jessica is so good with the kids and makes sure to include lessons in all the games, he misses it and wants to return after sports read more

Jessica is professional, knowledgeable and provides the best training. I'd recommend her and her team to anyone.

Jess is amazing! Not only is she a kind, patient and knowledgeable coach for our jiu jitsu women's team, but she also has the knowledge and ability to provide quick pain relief from anything that is ailing you! The first time she worked on me I was having terrible shoulder pain from a c6-c7 injury and the migraine that comes with it. I've tried so many things for this and nothing has really helped so my expectations were not too high but I left there with minimal pain, migraine gone and had the best sleep of my life that night. I went back to her because I was having terrible sciatic pain after coming back to jiu jitsu after years of being away. She quickly noticed my stance was off and helped correct that so I'm mindful not to favor one side, and gave me instructions on what I could do to provide some relief from the sciatic pain. Those two things made such a big difference and then when she worked on me just 1 time for the sciatic pain I left there with ZERO pain! I was amazed and just waiting for the pain to come back and I am happy to report that it is still feeling great after a week has gone by! I honestly could go on and on about Jess because she is such a loving uplifting spirit that is so nice to be around and she has so many God given talents. I am so grateful to have met her! read more

Big Bear doesn't have many personal trainers and I found Jessica by chance. The gym is well equipped and with Jessica's knowledge and skill of corrective training I was able to learn a lot about my body and what I needed to do differently in my personal work out regimen. My home away from home. High altitude training, detailed-technique oriented classes, and plenty of BJJ surprise visitors/mentors/ champion year round. + top facility with weight room and huge mat space. I train with both Jess and Dutch. Jess has helped me to train in a pain free way. She understands how fascia, ligaments and muscles work together and how to correctly lift and train. I had severe back pain and Jess was able to fix it with cupping. She also has helped me to have a toner and leaner look. Every week I also look forward to boxing with Dutch. I learn a new move every time so I'm never bored. I enjoy sparring with Dutch because he keeps it challenging at my level. Both Dutch and Jess bring a lot of positive energy to training, so I'm always motivated. I would highly recommend both trainers as they know exactly what they are doing. read more

Jessica and Dutch have a great service going on in Big Bear City. Jessica provides one-on-one personal training and rehabilitative therapy with a personal touch and great dedication. Dutch provides expert training in Brazilian Jiujitsu including hosting open mat every week. This is great for both the local residents and for short-term AirBNBers just here for vacation. They will have a larger jiujitsu space in the spring, but the current space and and superior equipment will meet your needs. read more

I trained BJJ with Dutch tonight and he is top notch. His instruction is very clear and he really understands the small nuances of Jiu Jitsu that make a huge difference. He helped me tonight to improve a submission that I can usually get from mount and it was a true " aha/game changer" for me. I definitely plan to train with Dutch again when I am in Big Bear! read more

Amazing facilities and a great atmosphere! Jessica is a kind hearted person and hard worker!

I spent well over a decade in the judo world, and unfortunately due to a terrible knee injury that I allowed to dictate my life, my days in martial arts seemed over. Completely by chance, I met Jessica and Dutch at their home. After explaining my knee being junk essentially, and my old Judo days, Jessica straight up told me it can be solved. After multiple surgeries and doctors just saying just wait u til you are 45 for a replacement, here was a person telling me this problem can be solved. Fast forward 6 months, and through corrective exercise movements, my leg works again, and I am back on the mat training jiu jitsu, and even ranking up already, while having a ton of fun. Jessica and Dutch are officially my coaches, but they are more importantly friends that I am grateful to now have up here where martial arts is rare. Our school is physically expanding, and it's about to really take off. If you are up here in Big Bear, you should come and train!! I was a write off that is redeeming himself, so I can testify to how important it is. Plus, we are about to have an amazing space which will make our academy a premier facility on the mountain. As a plus (or minus as you are training hahaha) the 7000 foot altitude will whoop you silly while making you so much better. If you are visiting on a weekend, stop by for open mat on Saturday. I have fixed so many positional issues by showing up and importantly asking questions. APT is like a new home and it is saving me. Let Jessica and Dutch show you what you had no idea you were capable of doing. read more

One of the best decisions I've made, going into Ace. Jiu-jitsu has changed my life for the better on every level. The people there are helpful and kind, the experienced instructors have made it easy to learn and grow. read more

Honestly, Jess has been the best trainer/corrective specialist I've had so far. The amount of results I've seen in a short period of time with Jessica vs sports Dr's or usual sports medicine rehab centers was miles apart. I completely ruptured my patella tendon back in Oct. 2015 and was unable to carry my own weight on that leg comfortably until I started my journey with Jess. I am now able to train Jiu Jitsu again without fear of serious injury and still see her twice a week. Not to mention she is helping me with muscle imbalances that I was told I'd "grow out of" or that "there isn't much we can do outside of surgery". She is very knowledgeable, attentive, understanding, and listens to your needs. I definitely recommend her if you are just looking for a personal trainer to kick your butt into shape and I most definitely recommend her if you need help getting back after an injury. She's also flexible with scheduling, which is another big plus!! read more

When it comes to quality and service Jessica is the go-to trainer. I've been training with her for a few weeks now and have noticed a significant change in my muscular imbalances. What I love about our sessions is that she is focused on me 100% and help me with my form and will push me harder if I need the kick in the butt. She has demonstrated a vast understanding of the human anatomy that reassures me I am in good hands. Overall if you value quality go to Jessica! read more

I've been training with Jessica for the last 4 months, and there are SO many reasons why I've enjoyed my time with her. Here are just a few: ~She really knows how to assess each client's needs and develop a plan that is best for them, and her attention to detail doesn't end there. She is meticulous about record keeping and progress tracking which helps me stay on track. ~She is incredibly considerate of our time together and apart. I never feel like we're wasting time in our session, and we always get a full work out completed within the time slot (even if my commute gets me there a little late). Also, I've NEVER had to wait for her to finish with another client because she's running over. ~I really appreciate how well she communicates with me when we aren't together. Jessica always checks in with me the day before an appointment to confirm, and the day after to see how I'm feeling. She is quick to respond when I have a question about proper nutrition or workout gear, or just want to share progress. ~Her pricing is so reasonable compared to others, especially when you consider how many hours a week she's actually working for you in and outside of the gym. I've never been able to afford a trainer before, and she made that feasible for me. ~She pushes and supports me in the way I need to thrive. She's a genuine and passionate trainer who's been in my shoes and succeeded. I appreciate that she is willing to share her experience and show that we can drastically change our lives and our heath with dedication. Thank you Jessica for all you do, and for all you've given to help me. read more

Hands down the most fun I've ever had training with a personal trainer. Jessica motivates me and really know how to get the most out of me. I wasn't sure how I would feel about having a female trainer, but she kicks my butt like no other and Iv'e never felt more healthy. The facility is clean, big, and always enough equipment for us to use. We've never had to wait for a bench press or squat rack. If you want to get in shape and have the energy and strength to do anything, from a long hike, bike ride or a spartan race she is the trainer you need. read more

I have been coming to Jessica about twice weekly since January 2014 and I must say she is probably my favorite personal trainer to date. She is professional, engaging, and complimentary, but also kicks my ass! I am always excited to start my workouts even when I am tired, and I always leave feeling great about myself. Jessica is very knowledgeable about different exercises and techniques. She is patient and will always make sure you can comfortably practice proper form before moving on to heavier weights or repetitions. Each workout is fun, different than the last, and increasingly challenging. Not only are her workouts fun, but she produces results! Since starting with Jessica, I have lost 5% of my total body fat and have lost inches to my entire body. Jessica is highly recommended! read more

First off Jessica is amazing. I'm a trainer myself and when I need to get that extra push and motivation, she's the one I go to. Love love love jessica. She is such an inspiration as a human being with her awesome journey. I have been training with jessica for 5 months now and she is simply the best, fun and tough workouts, she guides me on nutrition and what to do the days that i don't train with her. I have been training for OCR and she definitely prepared me well for all my races in a very short period of time. Thanks jessica! read more

I love training with Jessica! I started going to her after I tore my ACL. I was hoping she could help 'prehab' me before I have surgery. After I tore my ACL, I had ZERO stability on that leg. After working with Jessica (and still no surgery) that bad knee is as strong as it's ever been! I went from hardly being able to walk, to box jumping again! So, I decided to continue to train with her. She is encouraging, motivating, and very knowledgeable at what she does. She is mindful of injuries, and is a watchful eye when it comes to form. I went to her to help me with an injury, and almost two years later, I continue to train with her. She's both fun and challenging. I highly recommend her! read more

Hi, my name is Mimi and I have been working out with Jessica since the summer of 2014. Each workout has been challenging and fun. Jessica really pays attention to your goals and helps you to achieve them. She's also outstanding at teaching correct form for each exercise/move. She detects weaknesses and makes you work to turn them into strengths. Even though I was already quite active, I was having trouble kick-starting weight loss. Jessica helped me to set up a meal plan and chose workouts to boost my metabolism. In the first 4 weeks of training, I lost 7lbs and 4% body fat. It has been several months now and I have lost a total of 25 pounds and I feel much stronger, especially my core which was one of my goals. Jessica is friendly, professional, passionate, and tough! She really cares about you and wants to help you to reach your goals. I always look forward to my next workout. read more
