I have been for both breakfast and lunch over the last few years and I have always enjoyed it. I will say that I purposely do not go at busy times because there always seems to be a line, so I have never waited for a table. The food is nothing spectacular, but good quality. More recently, it seems like they're trying to a little too hard to do too much with breakfast specialties (i.e. the whipped peanut butter stuff french toast). Don't get me wrong, it is good, but the size of the portion and the amount of ingredients really bumps the price up a little bit higher than preferred. read more

Do not come to this restaurant when you are on a time limited schedule. We waited for about 20-25 minutes for a table on a Saturday morning. I gave this place another shot about a month ago and went for a lunch item. I had a special sandwich of roast Italian-style pork with red peppers and broccoli rabe, and the BF got his usual huevos rancheros. My sandwich was fabulous - juicy, well-seasoned, and tender with a great balance from the broccoli rabe and red pepper. The bun held up well and didn't fall apart before I finished it. The fries were also quite good - from frozen I'm sure, but well-fried in clean oil and seasoned while still hot. If you come here, get either the huevos rancheros if you must have eggs, otherwise I suggest going with their lunch options. read more

Went for brunch today (Sunday) around 12:30. We had to wait about 20 minutes to get seated and then once we ordered, it took another 30 minutes to get our food. All we got was a grilled cheese sandwich -which was pretty lack luster - and eggs over hash. Obviously the kitchen was understaffed and other customers were noticing as well. The wait staff was inattentive. We waited at the door for a while and were never greeted. Then after walking up to the counter, we were ignored by the servers working behind it. I had to say hello before we were even recognized. We were never told to that "someone with be us shortly" or "I'll be with you in one moment". We just stood there waiting to be acknowledged. The bus boy was spraying down tables with 409 cleaner and it was going over onto customers food. He was completely oblivious. I actually witnessed a woman in mid bite when she inhaled the cleaner right before she put her food in her mouth. I'm pretty sure their meal was ruined. The smell was wafting to our table as well and it's not the scent you hope to sniff when you're waiting for your food. The only positive thing was that the hash was probably the best home made I've had in a restaurant. Unfortunately, everything else ruined our experience. We were so excited to check out this place considering it is so close to our apartment. We love being able to walk to restaurants and bars in the area. This was not the impression we were hoping for. For a much needed, new breakfast spot in the area, it's a wonderful addition... however the food was not really that impressive. We got the veggie scramble, blueberry pancakes, homefries and jambalaya. Veggie scramble was on the greasy side and the homefries were sort of these sad little soft squares of fried potatoes, so you could tell they just weren't prepared properly. The "children's" serving of pancakes were these two ginormous pancakes that were light and fluffy but certainly not unique. Jambalaya was tasty but the shrimp was previously frozen too long or overcooked, came out kind of pasty On the flip side, the wait staff was great. Decor is standard. Bathrooms are clean and having a toddler, I'm very happy to say they have a changing table in the bathroom. All in all, it's a good place for the location and fantastic if you live nearby but not a good enough place to travel more than 10-15 minutes to check out. The place really lacks personality. The Kettle has been a breakfast favorite since my first visit, however "stupidity" made our last visit not so great. We had a party of 4 but everyone had not all arrived. The restaurant was only half full with at least 6-7 empty tables for 4; 4 being the key. They wouldn't seat us (3 were there) until our 4th diner showed up. Keep in mind there was no one else waiting and all the tables were for 4. Maybe the owners have been watching the Seinfeld "soup Nazi" episode too often. In terms of food choices, we went with tea, coffee, orange juice, pancakes, french toast and an omelette. The omelette was served with toast and home fries which were really good. Finally just stopped in for breakfast after meaning to get there since it opened. We were not disappointed. 4 adults, 1 child and a baby... They were very accommodating. Veggie scrambles, breakfast burrito, Kettle rancheros, and kid's pancakes with chocolate chips were all delicious. The burrito should have been a bit hotter and the scrambles did not come with toast (we had to order it and pay for it separately) but other than those minor oversights, it was great. Headed in for lunch last week, mid-day. Wasn't too packed, nice amount of outdoor seating, but we wanted to beat the heat and went inside with the AC! Not a huge place, good lunch crowd, though. No wait. Waitress came over right away and got our drinks quick, we ordered some sandwiches (the turkey avocado sandwich -- get the brioche!!) and they came SUPER fast. I finally checked this little gem of a restaurant one beautiful night when I was looking for a place to sit and eat outside. I've heard excellent things about the breakfast and brunch, they apparently just started serving dinner. I had the cream of mushroom soup which was outstanding! I also had the The Kettle burger which perfectly sized and cooked served on a brioche Roll with crispy fries. Their menu isn't huge but had a good balance of choices. It's also BYOB which is great. They had inside and outside seating available. The food was very good but the service was excellent. My waitress was very attentive without making me feel rushed even though it was 10 minutes to close. I will definitely be back! read more

July 4th visit. Restaurant was too hot.Strike one. Waited 30 minutes for a bacon chili chesseburger and bacon and eggs with home fries. Strike two. No bacon came on the burger and when we asked the server about it, she assured us it was on on there, "she thinks" and it was overcooked. My husband sent his meal back. Strike three. No peppers and onions on my homefries as ordered. Server brough a small container of slimey, wet peppers and onions--not browned as they would have been if done with the homefries. Strike four. No visit from the owner, who was there to apologize/make it right. Strike five. Done with Kettle. Check out Havertown Grille on Darby Road in Havertown. Have been here many times, my husband and I go for their chicken and waffles, other items are also good, the coffee is great. Was looking forward to the chicken and waffles today, looked on line and realized they closed at 3 (new to the area) Being that I have worked in restaurants for many years, didn't want to walk in with minutes to spare keeping all of the employees longer than they had to be there. Gave them a call at 2:30 and asked the employee who picked up if it would be okay to be sat at 2:45, which would be the time we would get there. He answered "we close at 3". I asked if they would be kicking us out at 3? He said no. I then expressed that I didn't want to put the employees in a bind. He answered; "we close at 3". I was trying to better understand if it was busy or not and how they treat customers who run in late. I believe I was told "we close at 3" four times by the young man who answered. I told him he was of no help. I understand it was my fault for being late, however the answer was not professional and not at all what I expected given that we are always treated very well by the staff. I'm not sure if I would like to return to this restaurant again. Please train your staff in communication with guests in person or on the phone. read more

The meals are around $8-$15 for breakfast and they also serve lunch and dinner items too. I would highly recommend going if you are in the Philly area. Was there today and ordered a simple Spinach and cheese omelet with a side of Sausage. Worst omelet i have ever had. Cheese was not melted and Spinach was not incorporated into the egg. We've been going here regularly for more than 5 years. The food is phenomenal and the staff is so great. Very friendly, always making a point to interact with customers and are very quick and efficient. And this is one of few restaurants where I will regularly order from the specials menu. Stopped in just about 7:45AM on a Friday. We were seated promptly and made to feel very welcome. There were a few others in the place but it was fairly empty. I ordered the special, some type of eggs with homemade tortilla chips and my wife had the Kettle Rancheros. They were both amazing, the eggs were so light and delicious. The braised beef, well lets just say I want more. It was a bit drafty near the windows, if that is even a negative. I will gladly come back for lunch! read more

Great breakfast! We have been here several times. My favorites are the Santa Fe Burrito and the potato omelet. The coffee is great and the wait staff and owners are super friendly. Very down to earth neighborhood feel but more upscale than a "greasy spoon" breakfast diner. It is kid friendly but it doesn't have any booths and the wait may be a tad bit longer than a typical diner but it's worth it! read more

I love this place :) I wish it was a bit bigger but the outside seating does help! They are very sweet and welcoming of kids. On top of all of that the food is really, really good. Whether it's brunch or lunch we always get an amazing meal ( we haven't been for dinner yet).
