All that was missing was the glass covering over the compass that sits at the base. We can live with that. This shop is located just behind the La Cigale markets, with parking onsite. I don't like this store plainly because I don't see the point of people dropping ridiculously large amounts of money on pots and pans and cutlery sets when there are people starving in the world. If you are into that extravagant sort of spending, then Galtons would be your sort of place. There's no denying its a beautiful store with some really beautiful things. The atmosphere just isn't that nice. If you're not a certain 'type' of person you're not really made to feel all that welcome.

For me this shop is more like a design museum than a shop as just about everything is out of my league when it comes to the prices. However, if you are a lover of beautiful objects, then it is certainly worth a look. There are all sorts of vases, designer mugs, paperweights etc. I even noticed a selection of barometers. If I had a lot of money I would certainly splash out on buying stuff here as it appeals to the artist in me. The only criticism I have of the shop is the silly Easter window display. There are a load of silly trees with ornamental eggs hanging from then. I could handle one of these but the whole window display was full of them and they detracted from the classiness of the shop.

There was so much I wanted to purchase. So once I have a bit more cash in the bank, I will definitely be back (come on pay day)!

Everything in Harrowset is gorgeous and the quality is undeniable. This fine quality does mean that most of what Harrowset Hall stocks is quite pricey, but boy is it worth it! Your house would be the envy of all your friends and just by purchasing items from this store you feel better. I know when I bought a classic lace and embroidered nightgown from Harrowset I felt like a million dollars - I felt like a 'real lady'. Harrowset Hall is just that kind of place - it makes you feel like you've found hidden treasure. The shop is not a huge store however has so much selling that you are just spoilt for choice. The owners have put their heart into the foundations and you feel this, as you browse the shelves. If you want to buy an original kiwi gift, this is where you should look. The highlight of this store for me is the Home Textiles Range, really vibrant and creative designs on Table cloths, Table Runners, Tea Towels, and Cushions too, all reflecting creativity, and culture, and it makes me remember that we are living in the largest pacific island city . I especially love the big stuffed kiwi made from old woolen blankets they have in at the moment. They also have some quite nice jewellery, mostly pendants and rings, and gifty kind of things suitable for, well, tourists? Or maybe people that just quite like New Zealand. Or people overseas who you send gifts to that have a 'kiwi feel' to them. Is it tacky? Is it cute? I think it might be somewhere in between.
