Pittsburgh's new park concept modeled after the Highline in NYC may be one of the city's best hidden secrets to enjoy the coziness of a park, gardens, art, food, bike trails, and impressive views of the city from under the Liberty Bridge and the Monongahela river. I met up with a person in the West terminal building who explained the concept and what they hope to do with the area. Pittsburgh's "baby Highline" sits between two terminal buildings currently undergoing renovations and are connected by a lower level indoor parking garage. The Highline Pittsburgh garage as it is called grants you 2 hours free parking if you wish to come pay a visit. The elevated third level between the two buildings make up the main Highline itself. They are putting in special lighting as well as flowers, plants that are set in steel made bases intentionally designed to turn to rust as exposed to the elements. They own another building out by the river which they hope to turn into a concert hall. The asteroid café that used to occupy part of this spot has gone out of business and the Strip district's De Fer Coffee and tea hope to open up near where they stood sometime in 2021 when Co-Vid is more under control. The west terminal building is home to offices and businesses and always looking for new tenants. Masks are required inside the West Terminal. Like New York, Pittsburgh's Highline sits on (In this case) an active railroad track and there are many areas to lounge in along with bike trails and of course easy access to the Three Rivers heritage trail that leads into the Southside. Currently only an "Anytime Fitness" is in operation. "Sly Fox" currently in the former State office building downtown also plans to move in here as well. Future projects include a bike shop and a hamburger shop that also sells beer. Take the opportunity to walk around not only the between the buildings but the surrounding area. Near South 5th St is a new mural under construction letting visitors know you are at the Highline. Down on the ground level behind the parking garage is a sculptured work with its name and bikes along with artwork on both buildings, wooden park benches, and a railway car currently painted to help set the scene. The ground level is approachable either by climbing down sets of stairs on East Carson St or taking an elevator near the overlook of the city and the lower parklet. Directional signage and CoVid guidelines are in place belong to insure social distancing. Although this place has a long way to go, I'm sure the finished project will be a great place to unwind, relax, go for a bike ride, enjoy food and beverage, or just go for a walk to see just how beautiful Pittsburgh really is. You can access the parking garage on McKean St which is accessed from 2nd Ave south off E. Carson St.

I came to Alloy 26 to co-work with my colleagues for a few days. I'm sure the experience as a…read moreregular member versus being a drop-in visitor is different, but overall, I thought this co-working space was just okay and if I have a choice I won't go back. It's advertised on their website that they have "fresh coffee, snacks, and drinks". This was not my experience. The only snacks I saw were a few bags of pretzels. There were two coffee options - one automated machine and a drip coffee in the lobby. The automated machine coffee was stale and flavorless. The drip coffee was fresh and tasted good overall but only accesible for a few hours of the day. I went to the lobby to get coffee around 1-2 PM and it had already been put away for the day. There were no other drinks to my knowledge. The convenience store, Eco Bistro, which is right next door and has soft drinks, snacks and drip coffee, closes at 1 or 2 o'clock every day. There are other coffee shops nearby but I wasn't comfortable walking around on my own in this area of town. Plan accordingly if you want snacks or use the vending machines in the coworking space. The private phone booths were comfortable and sound proof but so hot. There was zero air flow in these booths and I personally couldn't be in one for longer than 5-10 minutes at a time without having to open and close the door to let some air in. The open desk areas were nice and spacious and the chairs were super comfortable. I particularly liked the open booth seating. The temperature throughout the rest of the space was comfortable. There was also at least one walking desk which was really cool to use! Pro space: if you're just dropping in, ask the front desk for a key. Just keep in mind you'll have to return the key before 5 pm when they leave work. The coworking space stays open past 5 but you won't have your key. I think Alloy 26 is a nice enough space but really has some kinks to work out. There's very little natural light throughout the space and the desks that are near the windows (which have an amazing view of PNC Park) are sparse or non-existent. I would suggest adding more proper desk spaces by the windows for people to work. I also wasn't sure of the cleanliness of the space. There were few (if any) disinfectant wipes around to clean surfaces after someone had previously used them that same day. I do know they clean and disinfect at night and the space overall is clean and doesn't have any visible issues. Finally, I recommend taking advantage of the multiple security guards working in the building if you're concerned about panhandlers and harassment. The woman running the front desk told me that security is happy to escort you to your car or to different nearby areas on premise. This area of town has some growing pains and it's best to know that security is widely available should you need it.

I personally never placed myself with my team inside the four walls of this place. My executive…read moreassistant asked of me to step up and make the awkward experience known from way back sometime ago. First and foremost we don't have any affiliation with the Alloy 26 whatsoever. Our team now is housed in Shadyside area's corporate owned offices. Apparently as I were told by several that a chief of some sort runs around the facility like on a mission. Then outside guests take over the place with total disregard for those who pay monthly for the space. Even the break area is taken over by non renters. The place is like a community center run like a public library. I urge those to think twice before considering this place. I have extended my up most apologies to all those that had to experience this awful time and place. I now consider this matter closed and move on.

There's a huge lobby area with a handful of large meeting tables and a some chairs and couches to have a casual meeting at. I've rented out their conference rooms before, which vary in size from a 6-10ish size to a larger board meeting type space. There's obviously different size office spaces you can rent as well. They're not walled off, but have more of a bank teller type feel with solid walls and then glass higher up. Basically it's not necessarily private. There's also some smaller individual "phone booth" type spaces for privacy. I did the flex plan and paid for 3 people total and it was around $250, but I think we worked out a small deal too. Not cheap, but not the most expensive in the city either. They have coffee and tea, and a little bit of fruit, but that's it with food amenities. There's also a small kitchen for everyone to use with silverware and fridges. It's a great central location downtown by Boulevard of the Allies and I'd happily rent space again, as it's month to month contracts. I wish it was something I could afford to do more often, but I'm glad to know it's there when needed and would recommend it to others looking for space.

I viewed the Pitt Building last week for the owners of my company. We are looking for office space/…read moreco-working space. I have gone to almost every co-working space within the downtown area, and I can confidently say that the Beauty Shoppe in the Pitt Building is the most beautiful space out there. It is straight out of Pinterest, deep rich colors, architectural decor, and even the bathrooms are perfect. The two people that gave me the tour (Jesse and Marissa) were also the two nicest people I met on all of my tours. Offices were generous, and there are several different types of co-working spaces (offices, desks, open areas). Unfortunately, this space is not going to work for us (a little far of a walk), but all things considered Beauty Shoppe is at the top of my list. You should definitely check it out if you have time.
