This place has been on my radar for awhile after having read multiple reviews. This place lives up to all the great things I've read and heard from locals. While visiting family in the Central Coast, I finally got to experience the Hidden Kitchen's famous blue corn masa they use to make most of their dishes. This place is so f*cking good, we drove here twice to try more dishes. All of the smoothies are organic and contain superfoods in them. They all have a very 'smooth' texture because they use Vitamix blenders and they just make you feel amazing drinking them. We tried 4 smoothies there and I'd recommend the Baywood Berry if you're looking for something sweet or if you're looking for something to energize you, I'd recommend the Bishops buzz which contains coffee, banana and almond butter. With ordering food, you can't go wrong here. From their savory blue corn waffle items, sweet waffles or blue corn tacos. The thought of blue corn batter/masa could be intimidating but rest assured this place will change your perspective and gives you a taste of what real corn should taste like. I would recommend the Morro Melt if you're looking with something with cheese or the Cayucos Cowboy, which offers more of a southwest feel as it has black beans, Chile verde salsa and topped with fried eggs. It was New Year's Day weekend and their IG account stated they were short-staffed but you couldn't even notice this! Staff was quick and friendly regardless of the crowd they were serving for. Locals love this place as well so I'd say get their early! Simply the best breakfast I've ever had and I'd bet my Elite status on that. read more

We were looking for a place to eat and found this gem. . Can I give it 10 stars? So fabulous AND you can take your pup because there's a beautiful patio - wind protected too. The food was spectacular! (Hyperbole I know but it really was.) We shared the Carnitas, a tasty blend of crispy delicate pork melded together with cheese on beautiful tortillas and topped with a generous serving of fresh avocado & a "secret" delicious sauce. Honestly, I'm not doing this dish justice with words. It was SO great, we decided to order a blue corn savory waffle. Neither of us have had this flavor & we are so glad we went savory because the cake-like constitution was a super foundation for the toppings. Lip smacking good! Yum factor? 12 of 10 stars. Portions are generous, vibe is relaxed & fun, and masks are required indoors. They have games if you want to enjoy more than the "eat & run" experience. Holy moly, did we find a hidden gem! Usually it is so hard to find a spot for our family to eat at due to allergies, but The Hidden Kitchen is the solution. Tried it during our family vacation for breakfast one morning. Youngest got to have a gluten free waffle with peanut butter and coconut whipped cream (she usually can't have much because of issues with milk and butter). They were so accommodating. My husband got The Weirdo Waffle, which was huge and very filling. I got the tacos minus the bacon, and they were amazing! Hubby tried them and said he would get the tacos over a waffle because they were that good. We also had smoothies which were so delicious too! Thank you for existing! Lovely location. I read about hidden kitchen and then I read the reviews and couldn't wait to try it. Was a nice drive from Avila Beach to Cayucos. You order outside and then they bring your meal to you. My husband had the Plaskett pork with scramble eggs and ranch bacon and. I had one of the blue corn waffles with fruit on top. He said his was just OK and my blue corn waffle was a little on the dry side, I like the fruit on top the best. Their coffee was good we both had that but I was disappointed. Stopped here today hoping for the best. I was disappointed. It was busy, smelled amazing, and the people were super friendly, but my happy associations stop there. The food was just awful. I don't understand the rating. It is probably just my personal tastes, but my husband hated his also. This place is amazing. Super casual surf vibe going on here. The unique menu has a variety of sweet and savory waffles, and tacos! The carnitas tacos will blow your mind. Better than the carnitas I ever had at any Mexican restaurant. They come on a soft blue corn tortilla and topped with avocado, onions, cilantro, and two secret sauces. The five star reviews are right. Very high quality delicious food. But I'll tell you why I like this place particularly. They use *avocado oil* instead of canola. And Chosen Foods brand no less, which is one of the few brands that aren't fake and cut with canola. Canola and other seed ("vegetable") oils give me migraines. It is difficult for me to find dishes in restaurants that aren't cooked or sauteed in vegetable oil, or have sauces made from bottled dressings which use soybean oil. Hidden Kitchen make their sauces from scratch using avocado oil. I ordered their Morro Melt, and added carnitas and and over easy egg to it :). Delicious and very filling. Oh I wish we had this restaurant in our hometown! No wonder it's a local favorite, the food was incredible. People in this town are so nice, and upon noticing we had never eaten here before, a sweet family in line with us gave some great recommendations on what to order. We had the Reef Rancheros Tacos, Monterrey Mushroom Waffles, Fiscalini Fruit Waffles, and Rancho el Churro Waffles. I wish we'd had room for smoothies, because seeing some of the gorgeous smoothies at other tables had us wanting to try them too. Ordinary food is boring. I could go to a restaurant that served traditional tacos, waffles, bowls, etc. But then I could also make those things myself. Nope, I always want to go someplace where the food looks ridiculous, and good. Enter, The Hidden Kitchen. Just looking at the pictures, I knew it was the one for me. And reasonably priced too, comparatively speaking. At the window, I ask the register girl which tacos she prefers. She only suggest the plaskett pork because she loves the bacon in it. It's listed under the Breakky Tacos, and I'm not really a breakfast for lunch or dinner kind of person, so I order one and the Canyon Carnitas. The only other lunch taco looked like it has no meat, so I go with the Mannix Machaca as my, here goes nothing, choice. As you can see from the picture, the tacos are loaded! I have to eat half the contents with a fork before I can even pick them up. I start work the machaca, which actually ends up being my favorite. I then proceed to the carnitas, which I would have enjoyed more of not for there being so much cabbage slaw. If the slaw was more tasty, I wouldn't have minded. My least favorite was the one recommended to me. The bacon looked good, I would have liked it to be more crispy, personally. All three had very good sauces. As a bonus, the blue corn tortillas were very good. They tasted very fresh and home made. As a side note, I should have only gotten 2 tacos. I really struggled to finish the 3rd one.
