We stopped at The Hidden Kitchen for breakfast on our drive back to LA from Santa Cruz. Our taste buds were very grateful we made the stop. There was already a line forming when we arrived right around opening time. We studied the menu and made our selections with an order of Breakfast Tacos and the Big Falls bowl (added Carnitas) and the upgraded coffee. The blue corn tortillas were full of flavor and the textures was perfect. If you are driving through this area, we highly recommend to stop by for breakfast/lunch and enjoy the flavors. The staff was very friendly and there was some mercy inside with books and other items to check out. The hidden kitchen is a very popular place. We waited in line for about 10 minutes. They specialize in blue corn gluten-free waffles, which is what we got. We got the turkey waffle and the strawberry waffle. The turkey waffle was OK for me. My husband really liked it if you like waffles and you have a gluten-free diet you have to try this place. Apparently their smoothies are really good and I wished I would've gotten one of those. read more

My husband and I were staying in Morro Bay for my birthday. We came here to eat twice. My husband ordered the Canyon Carnitas Tacos (crispy carnitas, cabbage slaw, avocado, hk sauce, hk green salsa) and I got the San Luis Sunrise Blue Corn Waffles (free range eggs, Niman Ranch bacon ends, avocado, hk sauce). OMG, wow is all I can say. We took our food to go and ate it in our car by the beach. Everything was amazing and so flavorful. We were looking for a restaurant that was dog-friendly. Luckily we found this gem on Yelp and so happy I did. There's street parking as well as parking in the back. Finally tried this beautiful spot known for their blue corn waffles/tacos by the beach in Cayucos. We got there 10 mins before closing and still were able to order which i appreciated. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and has indoor and outdoor seating. You are supposed to order before you sit down and then waiters will bring your food over. We got the Elote Lovin and San Luis Sunrise (blue corn waffle) paired with Islay Immunity and Baywood Berry smoothies. I'm not sure how the San Luis Sunrise tasted but my Elote Lovin waffle was amazing! Everything paired so perfectly together making the most immaculate bite. The salsa with the grilled bell peppers, onion, and garlic paired so well with the corn and cheeses on top of the blue corn waffle making the most immaculate bite. The smoothie I had was the Islay Immunity and this was very ginger and turmeric forward, and didn't taste too strongly of ginger which was a plus for me. Sooooo good! I've been here twice over the past few years and have had a great experience each time. I tried a blue corn waffle the first time with HK whipped cream and berries which was delicious! I love the natural sweetness of the blue corn... it really enhances the dish. This time, I tried the breakfast tacos. The one w bacon and eggs was delicious! I had two with melted cheese and mushrooms as well. Those were decent but the bacon was so much better. I wish they came with a bit more HK sauce but still good! While looking for a new breakfast spot in the greater SLO area my friends and I came upon The Hidden Kitchen, and were drawn to it because of its stellar reviews on Yelp. Located in the small town of Cayucos, there is plenty of parking along the main street that is a nice short walk from the restaurant. The restaurant itself is in a nice location next to the beach, and has a good amount of outdoor seating to enjoy the nice weather and views. You place your order at the window outside the main building, which is a little confusing if you go in through the beach facing side. There is a nicely decorated interior, but the outside seating is definitely the highlight. The person who took our order was patient and a waiter checked in on us a few times during our meal. My friends and I went with the San Luis Sunrise, Elote Waffle, Monterey Mushroom, and Oceano Orange Smoothie. I will start off by saying I really enjoyed the Elote Waffle. It was super flavorful, the taste was unique, it was a good portion, and it left me wanting more. My friends however weren't super impressed with their meals. They weren't a huge fan of the sauce that was put on the waffles and felt it didn't really complement the dish well, and the overall flavor wasn't super captivating. They were were also not very happy with the prices, which were a bit steep. My friend that ordered the Oceano Smoothie was happy with it, and it did look really good. I LOVED THIS PLACE! The waffles are so unique, the ambiance is adorable and cute, the staff is swift and on top of it. What I love most is the variety of flavors of waffles, tacos, protein bowls and smoothies. I find that the atmosphere is enchanting and feels like it jumped off of a Pinterest board. I have yet to try a waffle of theirs that I dislike and feel as though you really can't go wrong. This location has views of the beach which is simply adorable. I was super excited to eat here. Gluten free kitchen with vegan options, yes please! The waffles couldn't be made vegan. There were two taco options that could be made vegan. My husband enjoyed his tacos, served flat on tortillas that seemed handmade. My tacos were also served flat, heaped with greens. When I looked closer, all I could see was black pepper. I had the slice of avocado off the top and saw the pepper was mixed all through the dish. Pepper is painful in my mouth, and I can't eat it. My husband was finished with his meal before anyone came to ask about our food. He was able to wave someone down for me to get something I could eat. Seems like everything is heavily peppered, so l left hungry. Staff was nice about the situation and refunded the dish. Wow! Been meaning to try Hidden Kitchen for awhile, finally got there, what took me so long! I will add HK to my 'must do' list whenever I'm in the area (4x a year or so). Monte Cristo, double wow, I added an over easy egg, so good, the right combo of everything! Also got the special which was a Carne Asada taco, on blue corn tortilla of course. Also amazing, one of the best tacos I've had, and I've had a lot! I hope they make it a permanent menu item. Lastly, Bishops Buzz smoothie. Overall a fun, friendly place to eat excellent, creative food for breakfast or lunch. The blue tacos and waffles do take a little getting used to but everything we ate was extremely savory and flavorful. We ate four different blue tacos, two veggie, carnitas and a ranchero black bean. The two veggie lunch tacos were just bursting with flavor. There was definitely no need for meat! The Ranchero taco with black beans and egg was also really good but make sure you like black beans! Probably the only negative statement we could make is the carnitas were a little dry. The place was very lively and the staff friendly. Fast, easy and inexpensive spot to stop and eat a casual meal! Spoiler: This place is a must-try location if you are in the area. My wife is celiac, I have a gluten intolerance, and we both have issues with dairy. Needless to say, finding places to eat can be a challenge. We actually found this place on Find Me Gluten Free and were intrigued. I believe everything on the menu is gluten-free, and there are lots of dairy free items as well. The staff was very sweet and very knowledgeable. Nice atmosphere and right by the beach, so we got ours to go and ate on the beach. We tried the San Luis Sunrise waffle and the Mannix Machaca Breakfast Tacos, and we were floored. The blue corn waffle is slightly sweet and has great texture, which is perfectly balanced by the savory toppings. The tacos were also excellent. We should have split a waffle, it was a lot of food. My wife and I are very happy with our experience. We will definitely eat here again next time we are in the area and would likely go out of our way to come here.
