I'd just like to add an update about the situation with David Birtles…read more This is the text message he sent to me. Dear Mr Thurley, In response to two emails requesting D Birtles Plumbing and Heating to attend XXXXXX Avenue and further to your text messages, please note our response. May we clarify for you the total invoice is £210.00 plus vat to the government of £42.00.  £210.00 is broken down as follows: Parts £20, Labour £160 and Travel £30. Before commencing work, a guide price was given. We were then informed whatever work needed to be carried out, we were to carry on and do the repair as necessary.   We then removed all bathroom items to keep clean and tidy including flooring mat, covered work tops and toilet area for protection and carefully removed one tile without chipping others because the toilet system was boxed in. We exposed the toilet system as there was no sensible access to access the ball valve. We replaced the ball valve, cleaned up site with hoover and on removal of dust sheets no damage was seen. The invoice was raised before completion as it was a fixed price and then the customer was asked to confirm the work was OK and carried out to her satisfaction. On completion the customer was satisfied with the work carried out, it was paid as agreed and we left site. Later that day, we received an abrupt phone call in the evening and subsequent incorrect text messages that do not relate to the work carried out and/or invoice. We are receiving threats of types of unacceptable social media marketing from this number and bribes of £100.00 which we deem threatening. Should these go ahead then we will be placing this in the hands of our solicitors. In an effort to come to some form of resolution to whatever problems you feel you are experiencing, then please feel free to call Mr David Birtles on 07957 138389. We hope this clarifies everything for you. Yours sincerely D. Birtles Plumbing and Heating I'd like to point out that David has charged me £30 to travel from Meersbrook to Norton, which is a distance of 2.7 miles and a ten minute drive £11.11 per mile. The labour charge of £160 equates to £106.66 per hour, more than double the average charge for a plumber in Sheffield. David was at my house for 90 minutes. My wife strenuously denies that at no point a guide price was given and the cost only confirmed when the invoice was given to her. I called David and did indeed ask for a refund of £100 as I have been overcharged and my toilet seat was covered in scratches, as you can see in previous photos. I told David that I would expose him on social media because I believe people like David Birtles should not be allowed to get away with overcharging his customers. David hung up on me, and didn't answer my calls the next day. Two days later David sent me the above text, I rang him as he asked but he didn't answer. The next day I rang him, hoping for closure on this situation. He answered, and I politely told him that I stand by my request for a £100 refund and his reply was that he will be contacting his solicitor, and then he told me to F**k Off and once again hung up on me. I have now filed a complaint with Sheffield trading Standards.
