Tobaggon Disc Golf Course - 2007 am national tournament

    Tobaggon Disc Golf Course

Throughout my time on the nation-wide disc golf tour, I think this one tops them all. Only offered…read more~3 weeks of the year for the amateur national tournament, this course is the ultimate challenge. Because it's played on a tobaggon course, the elevation is supreme. Hole #1 your playing downhill ~150 ft. with hole #2 playing right back up the hill to an even more elevated basket. Following both of these holes, #3 is potentially my favorite hole i've ever played. A monster of a hole (~700 ft with a 200+ ft decline), this hole can make or break your entire round. Played well, the hole can be 3ed. Played poorly, you're looking at a 6 or 7. The hole is lined to the right by a heavily wooded area, which is known to eat discs. This course has great risk/reward. Nearly every hole has an opportunity to go bigger with the option of reducing the remaining distance, but will destroy you if you miss the line. This championship course is all about setting yourself up for the next shot. With about three or four "deuce" holes & an additional three or four "tough deuce" holes, you're going to have to get a couple of them to come out with a good round. The rough is thick & the terrain is intense - so if you're not an above average golfer, do not play this course. If you're an advanced player looking for the ultimate challenge - come play. If you're looking for great disc golf & happen to be lucky enough to come when the course is installed, this course is worth traveling to play.

Hudson Mills Metropark - Huron River looks clean even if the news keeps talking about a chemical spill. Maybe it was downstream from here

My husband and I brought our pups here for a little outdoor time during social distancing and despite it being a gorgeous Saturday early-evening we didn't run into any one else on any of the trails we explored. So it's a really great spot to enjoy some outdoor adventures without worrying about getting too close to other people. Beautifully maintained, tons of parking and pup friendly! Just remember bug spray if you get into the woods/near the river. I forgot and got eaten up quite a bit!

Michigan's Washtenaw County has created a 35-mile "Border-to-Border" paved bicycle trail that winds from Dexter through Tree Town (Ann Arbor) and on to Yipsilanti. Much of the trail is off-road and provides plenty of welcomed shade and river views on a hot summer day. Today, my wife and I chose to ride 10 miles of the B2B Trail in the Dexter area that winds through the Hudson Mills Metropark. Given the pandemic, we saw plenty of courteous walkers, joggers and bikers sharing the 10-foot wide trail which enabled effective social distancing. The Hudson Mills Metropark section of the trail in Dexter is a true gem that offers fresh air, sunshine and the opportunity to get some welcomed exercise. We look forward to the time when we can once again stop into the Riverview Restaurant after our bike ride and enjoy a breakfast or lunch. Until then, we're staying safe in Dexter. 5 stars!

I applied bug spray very liberally and the 'squitos were still all over me like I was the blood buffet. If only I cross country skied I wouldn't have to worry about that sort of thing. Trails, fishing, golf, a couple ball fields and picnic tables. Huron Meadows has nowhere near the amenities of the upper tier of the Metroparks but you can probably find some zen spots out in nature here. I will say it's pretty savvy for the chain to put a park out in Livingston County as they can soak the taxpayers with a millage for the whole park system. Sure, Kensington, the crown jewel is barely over the border into Oakland County but with Huron Meadows, Livingston gets to have a Metropark of its own. It could use some improvements - disc golf, a sledding hill, a paved bike trail or dirt mountain bike trails and a pool would all help round out the park's offerings. Even one or two of these would do a lot for this park. As it is, there's some pretty scenery here, but it's not worth heading out of your way unless you're being a Huron-Clinton Metropark completist like me. Kensington and Hudson Mills are far nicer parks.

The markers for hiking are more in the trail so if you're expecting to see them as soon as you walk on to the park then you might not. One of the posts said that this is because of the amount of geese that have been frequenting the lake this year or because of runoff from rain. We went once before we knew about the e coli issues and actually had a great time. The beach (we thought) appeared clean and the water was the perfect cool temperature on a hot summer day. The swimming area went deep enough that we could float away from the littles on the shoreline. There were two life guards on duty. They have really amazing facilities where a get together was being held under the pavilion. They have a snack station, but we brought our own chips and sodas. They also have a splash pad with water slides. This area was closed when we went, and you have to pay a little more to access this area. They also have some cool trails and a frisbee golf course. You can bring dogs, but not to the designated swimming area. I hope they figure out the e coli issues because we would love to go back.
