My husband and I did the Valentines haunt and it HANDS DOWN WAS THEIR BEST ONE YET ! IM 39 YRS OLD AND I WAS GETTING SCARED IT WAS A GREAT GREAT NIGHT! (we took our daughter the Halloween event right before and it was very fun but this Vday Blew it out the water!!! ) Only small complaint is this time the photo was free so it got sent to our email/text and so did 100000ss lol of everyone else so I was unable to find our picture that night went to go back into photos the next day. And I was, unfortunately locked out of the pictures link limit.So that really bummed me out ! But still best experience ever read more

This has always been a great place to get your scare on. All the people working do a great job. This year they had you get tickets online, then come up to the booth to get actual tickets to hand to the gentleman in the front. The lines do get long. And it can get confusing because you select a time slot but anyone can get in front of you. The line is a little disorganized but I am sure they will work on it for next time. Super fun and spooky haunted house. They did a great job of ensuring safety (masks, hand sanitizer, social distancing). Still, it was exciting and (seasonally appropriately) scary for my husband, 10 year old daughter, and me. Lots of cleverly decorated rooms to find your way through. The staff was great, especially the "spider"! Younger kids might find it disturbing, but mine was thrilled. So happy that this is in our town, it was a fun alternative to trick or treating. read more

Whoever worked on 10/29/2016 at around 7-730 or so. Female, worked the very beginning of the haunt. The elevator part... This horrible little creature had nothing but venomous things to say about my friend and i. How annoying we were. How unattractive we were?? Disgusting. I will, without hesitation, deter ANYONE from ever visiting this haunt in the future. Get a better handle on your employees. Heart racing and bloop pumping! Creepy, ghoulish figures slinking around and popping up. Excellent effects and sets. I had to catch my breath for 5 minutes when it was over. So well done! This thing is world-class. Holy cow. I don't know which part is best: the actors, the makeup, the props, or the building itself. I was expecting a podunk small-town haunt, and left with my heart racing. I'd say you don't want to bring anybody younger than about 4th grade or so -- it's gory and, except for the guy and the girl at the very front, not funny at all. I was up from the LA area visiting my girlfriend in Santa Maria when we decided to look on Google for a local haunted house to get into the Halloween spirit. We found MidState Scare and went that Saturday night when the show theme was Gothic Scary Tales. I didn't expect much since I was used to the many great Halloween attractions in the LA area. Boy was I wrong. My low expectations were completely surpassed. The amount of detail in the rooms was incredible. The theming around classic fairy tales was well executed. The number and quantity of the actors was also top-notch for a haunt of this size. This is a great haunt for a great price of just $10. There are many lower quantity haunts in LA that charge twice as much. read more

Awesome! Great job creating the maze. Fun effects. Creative costumes. Engaging people even as they are waiting in line. Only $10. Very scary! The only thing i didn't appreciate was waiting in line to get in for about 30 min. Doors were suppose to open at 7:00 but didn't really open until 7:30 pm. We went on a Saturday. A must do for Halloween!! I went with my husband and another couple. They were all going as a favor to me because they all thought it would be cheesy or boring, but after we escaped the asylum they were raving that it was the best date night I'd ever come up with! We were legitimately afraid from start to finish and there were tons of brilliant shocks and surprises through every turn! The actors were amazing and the decor and details were perfectly petrifying. It starts off by a an undead concierge questioning if you REALLY want to enter the Haunt. After you answer his questions (and he mocks you brutally) he sends you through the first door. After that, it's room after room of actors in exquisite costumes and makeup, either bleeding and begging for help or slowly stalking you through eerie hallways. Several times we ran from ghouls or monsters, only to be shepherded into hallways full of doors, frantically searching for the one that would open! I am a DIEHARD Haunt fan now and cannot wait for the new Haunt this February for Anti-Valentines Day! read more

Well, we made it out to Scream in the Dark. The first couple of jump scares were good, but after that they were used mostly to tell us which direction to go. The slanted room was cool with the girl made up in white and black. At one point I couldn't find my way and started climbing up into some cupboard area with fake grass in it. The ghoul kept saying "Keep going." At that point the attraction turned into comedy before my eyes. We called some friends earlier in the evening to see if they wanted to join us for this, but I'm glad they turned us down, else I would have had some serious apologizing to do. Still, we need to support community events like MidStateScare despite their hit and miss nature. I hope they bring Gothic Scary Tales back next year because we missed it, and the girl taking our tickets said it was her favorite production by far. As for Scream in the Dark being MSS's most "popular" event, just remember that Taco Bell has America's most popular taco. read more
