I first came to Hannah during a "vocal identity crisis." I'd recently broken things off with a coach whom I'd outgrown, and the coach I tried in the interim was negative and unsupportive. Enter Hannah.
Hannah helped me reclaim my love for singing. With Hannah, I've been able to look at singing as more than just a profession. It's something I started because I love it, right? Hannah definitely takes that positive approach. She also makes a point of getting to know her students, their needs, their styles, their lives--it all factors into the quality of a vocal performance. Thanks to Hannah, I was also able to increase my range--and my belting range. AND, naturally, she helped me look outside my comfort zone, genre-wise, to explore a variety of genres and types of songs.
But I really realized just how much Hannah's coaching means to me when I participated in a live-singing reality competition. Every week, I had so much music to prepare. Hannah was there for me, from the moment I got the theme for the next show to the time I stepped offstage after the performance each week. She gave me her all and I couldn't be more grateful for the support during that crazy/amazing time!
I think my overall impression of Hannah is this: coaching varies widely, especially in LA. Hannah never said, "no, you can't belt" or "no, you can't learn this, it's impossible." Instead, she worked with me to help me find the ways my voice could grow, artistically and vocally, and I am eternally grateful to her for that.
I look forward to thanking her in my Grammy acceptance speech someday. read more
