We recently got married as the golf club and had terrible experience. First off if you have your…read morewedding here, make sure you get an inventory of the drinks and check it yourself, as they tried to double charge us for cocktails. It also took us hounding them for weeks after the wedding to receive the inventory to confirm their numbers. The coordinator Kayla is not qualified for the job. She is very unorganised and is not professional. She would not return our emails or messages for weeks before the wedding. We only got a response after calling every day for three days. Due to this we were unable to confirm aspects of our food orders and time plan for the wedding. She was rude to our guests, she disappeared during the setup, and some of the vendors were told the wrong information causing our ceremony area to not be set up. When they did set it up, it was not how we intended it, and it was last minute while guests where at the ceremony area. She reneged on our agreements that had already been made and tried to negotiate the price with us during the reception. The bartenders did not have a bottle opener for the drinks we had ordered specifically for the event and lost the bottle openers that we loaned them. They also stopped serving certain drinks due to having to walk to the other bar for supplies. The General Manager was also rude and would not make time for us to discuss the problems we had with the coordinator and the venue. The General Manager and the Coordinator both failed to take responsibility for the mistakes and short comings at our event and refused to reimburse us in any way. We had to fight tooth and nail for them to honour the agreements we had made prior to the wedding. Do not have your wedding at this venue.

I am in the process of planning my wedding and Niakwa is one of the places I considered. I must say…read morethat I was very impressed by the level of service. Before putting down any kind of down payment on the date, Trevor, the banquet manager was absolutely awesome! When we arrived for our appointment and tour of the place, he had a folder of information ready for us. He made suggestions and offered to customize a meal plan. The place was very pretty and located in a great part of the city. In the end we did not book at Niakwa because there was a minimum of 160 guests that had to be invited. Our wedding will be much smaller, at about 120 guests, so we didn't think having a host bar to make up for the lack of guests would be suitable for us. If you're looking for a gorgeous reception, go see Trevor Clearwater at Niakwa Country Club!

I got to play this little gem of a course for the first time yesterday. At first, when I came into…read morethe modest looking proshop and picked up the scorecard I was a wee bit disappointed to see the yardage at roughly 5000 yards. Now, I'm no long hitter by any stretch, but from where I'm from, the course yardage doesn't go lower than 6k. To add to my concerns, there was no driving range for practice or warm up. After some inner deliberation with myself I decided to give it a go, with a 'don't knock it til you try it' mantra playing in my head. Plopped the $$ for the green fee and off I went. I was very pleasantly surprised from the very first hole out how beautiful the course was laid out. There were a few slight dog legs here and there, but basically this course is a bomber's paradise; Not that I had the game that day to take advantage of it. What the course lacks in length makes up for long par 3s, water hazards and deceptively hard greens to hit. Fairways were mostly hard and well-manicured; tee boxes were fairly well maintained. That day, there were a group of what appeared like GC officials milling around looking at the course conditions-- always a good sign of the course management. I shot an 83 for a par 69, lets just leave it at that. Overall, I would DEFINITELY want to come back and play this course. Looking from the outside, this doesn't look any different from other courses I've played, but once you step on the first tee, you are sucked into its beautiful layout, and the combination of all the factors I've just mentioned, makes this course one hell of an experience. It's almost like dating a plain looking girl-- she might not look much from the outside, but as you come to know her, and spend time with her you find out: she has A LOT more to offer than you initially thought.

I agree the course is so bumpy it's terrible to walk. We golfed in two groups of three and the marshal on the course shadowed us and kept telling us to keep up to the group in front of us meanwhile even tho they were golfing with carts we were waiting for them on mulitiple holes. We are a group of 10-12 middle aged women's with some sense of etiquette we golf a different course every week and we all agree well never be back. The kicker tho was when my ball was in the rough and I was walking up the Marshal picked up my ball and threw it onto the fairway!! I was dumbfounded NEVER EVER would this happen to a man. I was literally to shocked to even say anything to him. Im certain he just thought he'd move us along, by doing that. My husband agreed if he did that to any man, there likely would have been more that words!!!

The carts aren't cleaned regularly or well and are in poor working order. The last two times we went there one of them broke down. There are piles of deadfall that haven't been cleaned up in two years. Some of the greens look like someone mowed a green for the first time without supervision. The Marshals are rude and unprofessional. One pulled up right behind us in a noisy gas-powered cart while I was getting ready to take a swing on the fairway. He pulled up quite close to make his presence known. After I hit the ball my friends immediately drove off and the Marshall drove up to me holding a ball and without saying, "Hi" or anything and quipped, "This is yours isn't it? You sliced it over there. Pick up your balls." I asked him how he knew it was mine or one of my friends and he just stared at me holding the ball. I responded, "Are you returning it to me?" He replied, "Yes." I said thanks, took the ball and he drove off without a word. After inspecting it I realized it wasn't even my ball. Admittedly I did slice a ball, tried to find it and couldn't. The clubhouse staff didn't seem particularly happy or forthcoming unless they knew the person and then they'd be very friendly and chatty. This review is from my experience this year although over the years I have found this place to have cliquish staff (the older ones, the kids are alright) like a low-end curling club or Legion. They seem to have the patrons they know and want and aren't interested in new ones, in fact, they're downright unwelcoming and entitled. From a value vs. customer experience perspective, it is way overpriced for what it is. There are much better municipal courses in every way for far less if you want a casual round of golf in the greater Winnipeg area and if you want to spend that kind of money there are far better options. Summary: Not friendly, poorly managed, maintained and a great way to have mediocre to an unpleasant experience for a couple of hours on what would otherwise be a beautiful day.
