Not that I'll be saying it aloud, but as I type it I'm sure I'll be saying it in my head. The Buck itself is a lovely, traditional-looking pub in the heart of Ormskirk's town centre, sat in between two rows of busy shops. From the outside, The Buck has a great old-fashioned feel to it and inside it looks like a proper 'old man' pub (which I love in pubs, personally). The beer available there is very nice and affordable as well as quite varied and the food, whilst basic, is decent enough if you fancy having something with your pint. Alternatively, there is a chippy just across the way for after last orders on your journey home. The staff in The Buck are friendly and attentive, ensuring you aren't waiting too long at the bar and the outdoor area at the front of the pub can be very pleasant if the weather manages to hold out whilst you there, enabling you to watch the world go by (and pass comment on people, if you're that way inclined).

The meals are well filling as well. If you don't want a whole meal they have plenty of snacks and crisps to eat too. Theres also plenty of televisions to catch a match on and lots of different rooms if you're not into the rowdy sports crowd. Definitely a must stop in on an afternoon or even early morning!

Whenever I read the name of this pub, all I can think of is when people are wrongly imprisoned and…read morethe media will coin a nickname for them like the "Disraeli One", which they will then throw into campaigns like "Free the Disraeli One". Now I don't really know the relevance of Mr. Disraeli to this pub, but I'm pretty sure the name is not related to some kind of political statement about a wrongly imprisoned individual. What Disraeli's One is though is a very pleasant, reasonably-sized pub in Ormskirk village. Pubs are not in short supply in the immediate Ormskirk village area so it can be hard for them to stand out from one another, but Disraeli's One manages to hold its own with the best of them. With a good selection of drinks available, as well as weekly drinks offers such as a bottle of wine for just £5.99, Disraeli's is a lovely place to go for a drink or two that eventually turns into a few more. The pub itself is rather comfortable inside and the atmosphere is relaxed, whilst the friendly bar staff are quick to serve and always smiling. The bar menu is small but quite varied, including dishes such as Philly steak, nachos and tortellini that are not expensively priced and are delicious.

It has a large car park on site which never seems to get full, even on a Sunday. The interior of the pub looks expensive, well maintained, clean and tidy. The decor is homely and comfortable. When you enter you are asked to wait there to be seated, it took a minute for someone to come and see us but when they did we were quickly shown to a nice table, presented with our menus and our drinks order was taken. The pub is very spacious, with a lot of tables for diners, and comfier area's for people who are just there for a drink. When we were there the football was on, but this only resulted in a distant cheer (or boo) every now and then, and didn't disrupt our evening. The menu has a lot of choice. There is a carvery available 7 days a week but there are also many other options available. I went with my parents who are both pensioners, and as they were members of the pubs "Diamond Club" which is for the over 50's, they were able to get 2 courses for a mere £6.25. This includes the carvery which is usually £7.25. After agonising for a while I chose the "'Brown's of Kirkconnel' black pudding and bacon fritter. Topped with red onion chutney and a poached egg" for starters. This was possibly the best black pudding I have ever tasted. It was rich and succulent without being overly fatty. It was so delicious and just the right size for a starter. For my main course I chose the Ultimate Burger - "Hand pressed Farm Assured Saxon British beef burger and half chicken breast, topped with melted Taw Valley mature Cheddar, smoky chilli bourbon sauce and crispy onions. Served with hand cut potato wedges." This came on a trendy square plate and looked very impressive (and huge) when I was served it. This was simply divine. The burger was delicious and the bacon and chicken were cooked to perfection. The wedges were also delicious and very moreish. For pudding I had Gingerbread flavoured Penna cotta with a homemade honey wafer. I've never had Penna cotta before but I thought I'd give it a go. It was so delicious, creamy and indulgent. But at the same time it was light and refreshing. I was actually sad when I finished the desert as I wanted more! The service at Five Ways is excellent. You don't have to wait long for your starters to be served, and once the plates are taken away the main course is brought to you quickly. The same happened when we ordered our deserts. The staff are friendly and very helpful. They are happy to chat and crack a joke whilst taking your order. They keep an eye on you whilst you are eating, coming over to check everything is perfect with your food, and taking orders for further drinks. I had an excellent meal here. I had previously only had the carvery but I thought I'd try something else and I was glad I did as it was amazing. I can't fault this place at all.

The food is top notch, needless to say. The main problem here is that the carvery is so good it's a wrench to not have it and attempt something else. The stuffing balls are delightful, the Yorkshire puds are bigger than my head. And that's saying something. The herby potatoes are a revelation when compared to most other carveries. The desserts are utterly indulgent. Magnificent morsels. The chefs know a thing or two about cooking, no doubt. The Fiveways has the advantage of being close to the farming areas of Ormskirk and Burscough, so its produce is probably much fresher than a lot of other places. Restaurants that is, let alone pubs. Whenever I've been the service has been really quick and friendly. Like Hex P my mum's also a pensioner (sorry mum) and she's a member of the Diamond Club - any over 50's get two courses for £6.25, which is a real bargain considering the calibre of the food.

If there are two words that will get people very excited when it comes to drinking, it's 'happy…read morehour'. Unfortunately many pubs and clubs don't really do happy hours any more; I guess maybe it's all just seen as a bit old-fashioned. Plus many places do cheap drinks deals all the time or not at all. The Plough is one such place that still persists with a good ol' happy hour that, funnily enough, isn't actually a happy 'hour' as it lasts from 11am through until 7pm everyday. Not that anyone's complaining of course. The pub itself is well-sized and has a decent location in the town centre whilst helpfully being sat next to a couple of takeaways as well. Aside from their happy hour that offers pints for just £2.10, The Plough also has a variety of decent drinks offers on bottled beers as well as spirits and cocktails for the ladies amongst you. As a consequence, the atmosphere in The Plough is always friendly and quite lively, making it a good place to go when you're looking to get in the mood for a night out and it's also a decent place to watch the footy of a matchday.

There's some seating up a level around the bar, and there's some more intimate/quieter seating behind the steps when you come in. They've got some really good drink specials including 1quid shots. The music is always going on full blast in here so don't think you're going to get some talking time in, as its almost near impossible to hear at a decent level in there. But they play some good music and there is always a good crowd in there. Just be warned, you have to go up and down stairs to get to it on the 2nd level. And the toilets are right by the door at the bottom of the stairs.

The atmosphere is friendly, the beer on offer includes several cask ales and guest beers, good pub food is served in the bar. The first floor is occupied by the popular Wilson's restaurant. Wilson's is very popular and has a strong reputation in the county for good food which is of the a la carte standard, the food is generally locally sourced and of an excellent quality. I find this a better image to have when thinking of what this pub's name conjures up in my mind, because a picture of the Queen's head is somewhat disturbing, especially without a body. But enough about the Queen, and onto the review. The Queen's Head is a lovely traditional pub sat in Ormskirk's busy village centre that offers its customers a peaceful drinking atmosphere in which to have a few pints. Inside, the pub is a bit dingy but if old man pubs are your kind of thing then this is a good place to pull up a bar stool and complain about the weather. Drinks here are fairly cheap and the selection of draught beers available isn't too bad, especially for the prices. Its location not far from Ormskirk train station also makes it a useful pub to go to if you fancy a quick pint before getting on the train to town or further.

This Railway is a pleasant, traditional pub that is situated slightly away from the busy town centre but also, somewhat confusingly, not very close to the railway either. Though it is small in size compared to some of the busier pubs in Ormskirk, The Railway is a nice pub to go for a few quiet pints at affordable prices. Inside, it might not be the most contemporary or lively place but if what you look for in a pub is good beer and a friendly, relaxing atmosphere, then this The Railway could be worth checking out. They also have a few plasma TVs in there which show the footy whenever it's on, meaning that you can watch the match in peace if you're there too. A pretty basic, simple pub that does the job.
