I ordered the Steak and Ale Pie, which was served with mashed potatoes on top, fresh seasonal vegetables (basically peas and carrots), and a jug of gravy. I was a bit disappointed with the vegetables because they were flavorless, but the pie was so delicious.

This place was pretty good! It was my first European pub experience. There is a decent amount of beers on tap (not as many as I had hoped for). The pies are so good- probably the better of the ones I had during my London stay. Their martinis and delicious and they also offer ciders as well as a full bar. The atmosphere is good for groups and just a casual fun time out.

The renowned Baker Street detective, Sherlock Holmes, sat thoughtfully on the red leather armchair with a pipe on his hand. After a knock, Dr.Watson entered the study and gave Holmes an urgent, but polite reminder. "My friend" Watson said, "It is time pay the crime scene a visit." The crime scene was just down the street at the corner pub, The Globe. A brisk walk on a chilly Summer afternoon left both the gentlemen rather exhausted. They decided to get some information with bartender first. Watson approached the bar. "Good 'noon, sir. May I have two pints of the pale ale, please." "Comin' right up." "You know most of the regulars here?" "We don't get many regulars up here, mate. Just tourists mostly. I don't usually see the same face twice. That'll be 9 pounds for the drinks." "Good day, sir." Watson found Holmes outside by the standing tables and relayed the newly acquired information. He did not forget to add that the pub two streets down had pints for a better price. After a drink of their beverage, Holmes appeared absorbed in thought. After a moment of reflection, the legendary detective asked Watson to summarize the case thus far. "Very well. The victim was scheduled with Mr. Malevance here at The Globe. According to our notes, Malevance is a rather frugal apprentice who works just two streets down. He told us he had met the victim here several times before, and they had plans to enjoy a cold and refreshing beer here on the day of the crime. However, according to Malevance, the victim never showed up." There was a glimmer in Holmes eyes. He just had a breakthrough. "My dear Watson, Malevance is lying. As a frugal consumer, there is little chance that he will be willing to spend nearly 5 pounds for a drink when, as you mentioned, there is a pub near where he works for a far better price." "But maybe he enjoys the quality of The Globe and is willing to pay a premium. Could that be a possibility?" Watson inquired. "Take another drink, old friend. Malevance said he planned for a 'cold and refreshing' drink, but you and I can both attest to the fact that this beer is served warm. While that may be a crime in itself, it also happens to be evidence against Malevance's testimony." "Finally," Holmes continued, "Malevance claimed to have met the victims many times before at The Globe. But our fine bartender here says that this pub is only frequented by tourists. Thus, Watson, I have little doubt that Malevance has given us false information!" "Cheers, Holmes." Watson said in awe, "You've done it again." The two gentlemen left their warm beer in haste and walked through a group of tourists to their office.

Upstairs bar - perfect for a quiet drink

The Globe has a captive audience being the only obvious meeting place in close proximity to Baker Street. And it's nice that it doesn't abuse it's position as the only pub on this stretch of the busy Marylebone Road. It's big and fairly basic, the typical tourist-catcher with just enough of a traditional pub feel to it. Their fish and chips were popular with a group of school kids on my last visit who must have stopped over after a visit to Madame Tussauds. I've been here on busy nights when drinkers spilled out onto the pavement. This is not possible at the moment with the front obscured by some massive hoardings. You have to walk around a building site to find the entrance. It's rather noisy downstairs with the sensual overkill loud Europop but you can usually find a spot in the quieter bar upstairs. The friendliness of the staff came as a pleasant surprise. The bar up here is tiny and stocked with just the basics, but our server went downstairs to get some cucumber when we specified we'd like our G&T with Hendricks - well impressed.

I'd imagine The Globe gets a lot of punters by pure luck. When you step out of Baker Street Station, looking for a meeting point, it's either the Sherlock Holmes Statue, or the Pub. The pub has alcohol, the statue has Chinese tourists. The pub has an upstairs and downstairs; the downstairs is normally pretty busy, and normally has football on the T.V. The upstairs is normally quiet and doesn't have football because it doesn't have a T.V. But it does have a few sofas. This has been a handy venue for me for work meetings. Handy because it has food, and handy because it has drink. Handy is a weird word when you say it a lot, try it. Anyways; The staff are friendly, the drinks are pretty cheap - especially when someone else pays, the only annoying thing being that you have to walk down another flight of stairs to get to the toilets. What's also handy is that just outside and across the road is a little stand that sells waffles, which always delight me.

When working at Madam Tussauds, me and some of our acting group would go to one of two pubs after every shift, one of those was the Globe as it was right opposite us, it is great, there is some outside seating, which is really loud as it is on the Marylebone high Road, and it is huge inside. I have been countless times and the crowd varies, it all depends on what is happening in London, like a football match, or rush hour, or a simple week night. I have never encountered any trouble and there is always a good mix of people. It is cheap and cheerful and is a real old place, I got speaking with one of the bar maids a few years back, who still happens to be a close friend today, and she told me that it was built in the 1700's... that's old.

On the second day of our London honeymoon, my husband and I stopped in after getting caught in the rain leaving The Sherlock Holmes Museum. We chose this place because the sign said The Sherlock Holmes Bar, but it fell short of the advertised theme--and the upstairs Sherlock Holmes dining room was closed. However, the beer was good and the sampler platter was quite enjoyable--especially my very first English meat pie!

Remarkable, he scored and I literally walked around the corner and saw the long line to get into the pub first. I was seated immediately, however, and proceeded to enjoy a traditional Sunday Roast. Room was very pleasant (there are so many I got lost returning to my table from a bio brake. Roast was very good ( but no Lawry's) and the sides excellent. Could not decide if my favorite was the roast potatoes (crispy outside soft inside) or the glazed carrots. Yorkshire pudding was good but again, I am to used to the Lawry's and this is a different style. Peas were, well, peas, but very fresh. The sticky toffee cake was excellent and the Guinness fresh, creamy and a proper pour. Good thing because the selection of winners by the glass and half bottles of wine were both a little thin. Overall wine list was good but I was alone and not up for drinking a full bottle by myself. Overall, very enjoyable and to judge by the crowd and difficulty in getting a reservation, one of the more popular in town.

Two story space - the ground floor feature the bar and handles walk in lunch; the upstairs is a dining room for those with reservations. Fun fact, as part of the history, the pub used to be the host of bare knuckle fights and had regulars like Charles Dickens. Wildfarmed sourdough - served with whipped salted butter and Guinness butter. Well toasted bread and the butters with salt were well made. Fuller's London Pride marinated steak and ale pie - served with seasonal veggies and red wine gravy, as well as either mash potatoes or triple cooked chips. If there is one dish London does really well, it's their pies. It was beautifully made and loaded with steak. The red wine gravy was decadent and added a perfect amount of moisture to the pie. Triple cooked chips were perfectly crispy but fluffy on the inside. Corn fed chicken breast - served with garlic and sage butter, mash potato, cavolo nero, and crispy onions. Only took a bite of this as it was my partner's dish but the bite of chicken I had was very juicy and well seasoned.
