I love this place for date night, a night with friends or a gathering amongst collogues. I recently drove from southeast Los Angeles to visit this place that my friends have been raving about. Strong drinks. Nice space. Totally not what I expected from the look of the place from the outside. Not a narrow entrance way by any means but it opens up to a much wider space and cavernous bar and lounge area with a small stage all the way to the back. I had a Pendleton (Canadian whiskey) and 7 (they dont carry Seagrams 7) at the suggestion of the barkeep. It was good. I liked it. It was a good pour, I was satisfied... I went there for a happy hour with some former coworkers and had a good time. They had ordered some appetizers by the time I got there and I can tell you that the truffle fries and the pizzette-sized personal pizza were both good. Actually, the truffle fries were very good. Parking can be difficult for The Famous if you dont know the area. There's a parking garage behind the Glendale Marketplace. There are metered parking spaces on the street and in a lot across the side street (Harvard)... I valet at The Americana but there are other options. First off... fuck this place for what they did, sadly it used to be one of my favorites and i brought all my friends here because it's one of my favorites. I know how it should taste and smell and welp I got excited because I haven't been able to get it for weeks because of shortage due to Covid 19. This place is fun as an employee of the Americana because it's one of the last businesses that stay open after your shift gets out. Employees can gather after a long day working restaurant or retail with each other and really bond. At least those are the memories I have here. I even informally celebrated a bday here. The drinks were delicious my friend got the red wedding and I can't remember the name for mine but I was citrusy and not too sweet which is what I prefer ! I'm a regular customer at The Famous. Yesterday evening I came in for a couple of drinks. My bartender, Serg was fantastic as usual. My drinks were great and he always creates a fun, uplifting atmosphere. While I was there early on, a couple of people came in for drinks. Serg made their drinks but misunderstood their off-menu orders. He remade their drinks quickly and without argument. The two women still seemed unhappy and spoke condescendingly to the bartender even though he remedied the issue. They proceeded to watch him interact with me and other guests with an upset/rude demeanor (thinking that he was speaking poorly about them to us although our conversation was entirely unrelated). The guests ultimately left. I saw a negative review and wanted to share the other side. This is a fantastic bar with excellent service and drinks. This place has always been fun each time I've gone. Drinks are delicious and the bartenders are extremely friendly and attentive. It really is a great place to go with your people. The bartenders are amazing & the drinks are even better. I can't really say which drinks are good, because I always tell them, "just make me something good." I asked about the drink of the day they have advertised on a board. The bartender said he couldn't answer any questions about it. I asked if the other bartender could. He said, "no. That's been up there for 3 months. We don't know what it is". I ordered a burger & asked for bacon (bacon is listed in one of their other menu items). Burger came out wrong (it was correct on the bill, but not how I ordered it). The bartender noticed this before serving me, I appreciated that, but didn't replace it. I asked for silverware & he brought out a plastic knife & fork. Tasty cocktail, not crowded, but the boxes on the bar, outdated signs & plastic utensils give it a really cheap feel, not a gastropub. $25 for one drink & a burger. I went to a cute restaurant in Montrose that was spotless, no boxes on the bar, the bartenders wore shirts & ties (not a T-shirt with cut-off sleeves and shorts), huge menu, order accuracy, and real silverware for the same price. Checked this spot out for Happy Hour (~4-7pm) to meet up with a friend for a drink. The bar was pretty empty when I arrived, but it was a very cool, cavernous space -- perfect for escaping the summer heat. The bartenders were super friendly, greeted me and chatted for bit, which was nice because it's a bummer when you walk into a place and feel like it's too pretentious for your existence LOL. I decided to try the tell the bartender what you like and he'll make you a drink. I told him I like vodka, tend to like mojitos and he made me this somewhat sweet, but strong vodka drink. This is the worst run bar in the area (a close second is Tavern at Brand). Got nothing moderately good to say about this bar before COVID or even one time I walked in at the tail end COVID. This place is a great spot to host corporate events. Last week me and my co-workers went there to celebrate our Employee Appreciation Day, and the bar manager, Tiga, set up this "Mixology Academy" for us. We had the entire bar to ourselves for 2 1/2 hours. He was very friendly and very professional. He taught us how to make all the cocktails from their menu. We got to go behind the bar and make our cocktails and share them with the rest of the team! It was so much fun. Tiga taught us the art of pouring, shaking, stirring, and drinking! :) He was a master behind the bar. I really appreciate the time he spent teaching us the technique of cocktail making. The head manager Artur was very professional and me and my coworkers are very grateful for him for letting us have the entire bar to ourselves. It was a memorable experience!
