Also a pool hall with leagues and such. I used to come here as a junior high kid when they had dances and pizza. It's truly been a staple of the east side IC hood for years. High school football banquets, graduation Parties, proms, weddings. I thought the staff is pretty damn nice and cool. You ll occasionally get a free beer if you make nice. The drinks and bar food are also pretty cheap. 3 bucks for a premium draft. Keep on trucking first avenue club!!!

The space isn't fancy at all but it works for smaller bands. The bathrooms aren't very nice and there is never any paper towels which drives me nuts. The bar staff is usually pretty quick and I've never had to wait too long to get served. Although last time I was there they ran out of Busch Light. I know you probably think I'm too cool to drink that stuff but the truth is I'm not. I love that cheap beer. Prices for drinks are pretty fair.

My family and I stopped at Wooden Wheel on our way through Iowa and were pleasantly surprised. The…read moreindoor space is rustic but modern, and the wine selection is vast. The tasting we had featured both reds and whites. Some I enjoyed, others weren't for me, but I was able to find great wines to take back for my husband and for my mother. The tasting was presented by one of the owners, and he had a vast knowledge of winemaking and also some great stories! I was not impressed by the labeling, but this seems to be very common among small local wineries. For me, the presentation of a wine bottle is important not only for gifting but when you are enjoying a bottle for yourself. The Vineyard also has a small gift shop with wine related items, some of which were rather unique. On the tour, I was surprised to see thick plastic containers for fermenting the wine rather than the traditional barrels. I learned more than I expected to about a process I know fairly well. Overall, this was a nice local vineyard with some good options. I can't say that I would necessarily drive there just to visit, but it's a nice stop on a ride through rural Iowa.

I have uploaded pictures I took while I was…read morethere, but I want yelp-ers to know that I saw several other rooms there, all of which included an attached bathroom and were larger than my room. I suppose those more luxurious rooms were more expensive than mine, but I loved my room. They all have closets and a tv. The bed and breakfast is clean and charming. It is a large house and has a very large living room, computer room, kitchen, dining room, a screened porch, and family room. If my count is correct, I believe they have five bedrooms, some of which are large an have multiple beds and a couple have a single bed. The b&b is filled with beautiful decor. The owners, Linda and Karl Reichert, are lovely people who welcomed my whole party with warmth and delicious food. They make amazing breakfasts. The day before, you are given a menu for a three course breakfast. You choose what you'd like for each course. The first course is a fresh fruit bowl, the second is a bread course, such as homemade scones or muffins, and the third is an entree, such as pancakes or egg concoctions. All of their food was homemade from scratch. The scones were the best I've ever had in my life. Linda told me she shares recipes and gave me her scone recipe. The yard is fantastic. They have a gazebo, apple and walnut trees, a flower garden, a vegetable garden, and fruit plants. The fresh fruit you eat in the morning and some ingredients for other dishes come from their own personal garden. There is plenty of room for children to play and pets to run. For entertainment, there are tvs in every room and in the family room, there is a dart board, they have board games, and Muscatine is only a ten minute drive. This bed and breakfast is everything a b&b should be. The home is wonderful, the yard is gorgeous, the food is delicious and the people are fantastic. I would recommend strawberry farms to anyone and everyone.

Yes, Jackson Pollock's 'Mural,' a work from 1943, checks that box in a big way. It's been included in Pollock retrospectives in other art museums. Okay, but do they have anything else? Yes. Whoever is on the team that put together this collection deserves kudos because it's especially strong in mid-20th century and African art. Do they have any Grant Wood paintings? Grant Wood is Iowa so, yes, of course, they have a few of his works, too. What about the building itself? Well, it's shiny and new and a true pleasure to walk through. Sound expensive. What's the admission fee? It's free! Bonus: the scholarship here is great and it's directly reflected in the well-written wall labels. This is hands down one of best two art museums in the State.
