The Escape Game is a fun, well run escape room right in the Vale Fair mall. It is a bit more expensive than others, but it feels polished and it's relatively new. We did a Western themed room, and everything was designed well enough to keep you engaged without overcomplicating things. We ended up with the fastest time of the week. It did not feel especially hard, so either we were way smarter than we thought or the room was a bit easier. Either way, it was a good time. The staff was friendly and kept things running smoothly. They stay on schedule, which helps the whole experience feel organized. Overall, a fun stop if you are already at the mall and want to do something a little different. One star less cuz it was easy and therefore short. read more

This is a *shared experience* in which our group (4 adults) was joined by 3 preteens and their mom. One of them had already played before and did take away some of the fun of that, given he knew clues and said we were "doing it out of order." I think they enjoyed themselves and I'll let kids be kids! The room was fun and had a lot of random puzzles to solve, we did the spice market one. And they said the clock would pause during videos but it didn't. Which I think videos took up 3-5 total minutes of our time. I liked the elevator element and the beginning spice shop. Overall the game was well made. The staff was friendly in that over acting saccharine way. read more

We loved our time at The Escape Game here in Valley Fair! We came with a decent sized party on New Years Eve and had a great time with a seamless setup. Duke was our guide/host and he was very friendly and helpful throughout. We did the Gold Rush room and as escape rooms go it was pretty easy. At this point we've done probably a dozen or so of them and this may have been the easiest (we finished with 23:45 remaining, a record for the year). The room itself was pretty immersive and the process is fun, but just the right bit of challenging. It felt short, but that might've been because we got in a good groove and moved fast. Honestly, this was a really fun place that had an immersive room but we wish it had just been a bit more challenging. We'll definitely come back another time to try out other rooms though so we'll keep this in mind for next time! read more

Ok, gave this place another try. Did the Heist with 1/2 the family yesterday. Much better experience with this 8/10 difficulty room. There were a hiccup where a puzzle should have caused a clue to come out, but it didn't. The staff was very apologetic about it and did a lot of stuff to make it up to us, which we really appreciate. The staff here has always been top notch. Since we came on a whim, we got the room to ourselves. The room was scheduled to start basically 5 minutes before we arrived. Overall the theming was much better, but I would say that while we did need a couple of hints aren't overly difficult. I don't think it would have been as "fun" if the whole family was with. There wouldn't have been enough puzzles to keep us all engaged. Upping the stars but I wouldn't do these rooms with a full 8 people. I would rate it a lot less if the room was full. So the trick is to come with fewer people and it would be a lot of fun. read more

A new month meant another escape room to do with friends! Toughed out the holiday traffic to the mall and came back to the Escape Game for another challenge, this time for an increased difficulty game but one that was highly rated. Booked a room online, showed up at our booked time and the check-in process was super simple. Waivers are signed via QR code on your personal phones. We played the Special Ops: Mysterious Market This game was well decorated, felt immersive and had a great vibe to it. To be honest, almost forgot we were in an escape room, it reminded me of walking through Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Marketplace in Disneyland. From lighting, sound, the details really made the ambiance enhanced. The puzzles were a good mix of difficulty level and required some collaboration with others, revisits and definitely stumped us a few times. The screen with the timer is easily seen from anywhere in the room, so you can manage your time which I appreciate. Easy to have time blindness in these rooms. Ended up using two hints, but escaped with 6 minutes to spare. Each player was able to complete a good amount of puzzles and found the story line to be fun and interesting. Happy to say we escaped! Our tour guide Lauren was upbeat, outgoing and friendly through the whole process. Not failing to mention, she took great photos of our group. Sometimes lighting can be a bit tricky. The staff here was all smiles from check-in to on the way out. Definitely, going to have to come back another month to play the rest of the games. 2 out of 5, done! read more

My dream of saving outer space has been fully satisfied. And we did it in 59 minutes! Isn't that out of this world?! Literally! The game itself was fun and it was super hands on. It also really emphasized teamwork (3 worked for us!) and really makes you question how on earth you passed Chemistry (or was it Physics...) and makes you wonder more about what's beyond our world... at least, that's how it was for me! I've been digging myself into black holes all week! Am I NASA qualified yet? No. But am I ready to save the solar system yet again? Yes! Our game guide was adorable and I loved that feedback was asked because it was a fairly new game. There was a bit of technical difficulties but she was super attentive to the game that we didn't lose out on time because she caught it right away. Granted, a few seconds would've been saved but we still got out on time. Yay! Of note: South Bay Escape Game leadership has been phenomenal in communication and ensuring guest satisfaction for a "I've gotta come back and see what's next" experience. Played the Depths escape room with my friends and two strangers. The start of the game was okay but as it progressed it became harder due to one of the other players. My friends and I were extremely distracted and held back by one of the strangers who was drunk. The intoxicated person kept getting in the way by mentioning things we already figured out 10 min ago in the game or taking game pieces from us to "help". That person stumbled all over the room and made it hard for us to maneuver and think. Although, we were distracted we did still enjoy the game a bit, but ideally we'd love to play with sober players. When we ran out of time, the staff came in and handed us all "we almost escaped" cards. To our surprise, the staff handed my friends and I gift cards as a refund for the game. The staff did this because as a team we were severely held back by the intoxicated player. Receiving these gift cards, my friends and I felt an bit better about the experience we had. We love escape rooms and have probably done well over a dozen all over the world. We tried The Escape Game's new room which is space themed. It was a very well put together a puzzle. They did a good job balancing a bunch of different things to do. The room was extremely high quality and challenging enough to keep everyone busy. They are very odd about private rooms. They just put strangers together which is not something we've ever done before. Every other Escape room we tried for the most part just lets you have a private room if you want. We usually come with 4 to 5. I called and they managed to suggest the time when we were less likely to encounter other people in the room. That was helpful. Given the experience is about $45 per person, and I'm spending nearly $250, it would be nice to have a private room by default. The staff was helpful, and I would highly recommend them. We will probably be back for another room someday soon. read more

On Wednesday night my work team went here for a team building experience. We were a few minutes late arriving but we're quickly helped and started the "Gold Rush" game. You're given an hour and can use as many or no extra clues whatsoever. We had 8 people in the room which is the max capacity, but was great for dividing and conquering. There were a total of 3 rooms and many locks and puzzles to figure out. IF you need a clue you simply push a red button and they project a clue on a screen. At one point in the second room we had somehow passed the point of one of the clues because we had figured out the answer already and our guide simply just announced over the speaker that we should just move forward to the next thing. You get 60 minutes to complete it and we completed it (We Escaped) in 39 minutes. It was definitely a fun team building and though some on my team weren't thrilled about it initially EVERYONE had fun! read more

Lucas was funny and engaging. We did "The Heist" which we finished in 45 minutes and were very proud. I came for a second visit with my family and fiancé to do the heist room. My parents hadn't done an escape room before and they loved the experience! The whole game was thought out very well and we had a great time solving all the puzzles. My sister, fiancé, and I have done several other escape rooms at different locations, and my sister said this is the best one she's been to. The challenge level felt accurate as we had to ask for several clues throughout the second half of the game and rushed in the last few minutes. Luckily we got out with 20 seconds to spare! I love escape rooms. I can say Ive played more than 40 rooms in different cities. So I have experience. I rate escape rooms based on production value(design, decor), entertainment value, how hard the puzzles are, how helpful the host is, how spacious/cramped, and just how much fun and unique it is. The escape game is a great introduction for beginners as it really shines in production value. It's also great for experienced players as the difficult level is pretty high where we've needed clues a couple of times. I'd say the only drawback is that the rooms are shared with strangers if you can fill the whole room with enough players. If you're sociable and love people, great. For me, I rather do the games with my own group. Lots of points for many time slots and they offer gift cards at discounted rates. Customer service is also really helpful! Came here with a group of friends on a Sunday evening. We did the Heist escape room. We are all in our mid to late 20s and noticed a lot of kids waiting around so I wasn't sure how challenging the room would be. But I thought it was nicely done! There were three separate rooms we had to go through. Some clues were easier than others but overall a good time for all. We had a party of 8 because we didn't want to get any random people and it went well but is a bit crowded in some of those rooms - more reason to escape I guess? If you're an adult, definitely recommend an 8/10 or above! read more

This was my first escape room ever, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! My boyfriend and I did the Timeliner room--just the two of us--and we had SO much fun. It was a multiple-room scenario, so we were running around like crazy trying to piece everything together, and somehow, we escaped with just 8 seconds to spare. I was jumping up and down I was so excited lol. Huge shoutout to Cielo, our clue giver (is that what they're called?). She was the absolute sweetest--so kind, super encouraging, and really made the whole experience even better. And the best part? She gave us a little drawing of us at the end, which completely melted my heart. The kindest person ever. We got to peak inside another room, and based off of the game descriptions- I'm already dying to come back and try another. Such a fun experience at The Escape Game! My friends and I went on Sunday evening to celebrate a birthday and the staff was super nice throughout the whole experience. They even gave our friend a little postcard with hand written messages from the staff which was a nice little surprise. Jenna was the one who brought us to our room and got us set up and she was very friendly! We did "The Heist" and it was a blast! The room itself was very detailed and I was a fan of the setup of the experience from the beginning to the end. Our group had a lot of fun working together to figure out the puzzles and get out of the room. You are able to ask for clues but our group wanted to solve as much of it on our own. I also liked that there was a timer to count down how long we'd been locked in the room because I had asked what the time to beat was so it was nice to reference. The difficulty rating was pretty high, but we weee able to escape with a little over 17 minutes to spare so we were excited. Escape rooms are such a nice bonding experience and The Escape Game was a great place to do it! It is located in Valley Fair so if you plan to go during the weekend (especially during a busy season like the holidays), I recommend coming early to give yourself ample time to find parking and check in before your reservation. We just did Special Ops (8/10 difficulty) for a Valentine's date, and it was the best escape game we've played! Thank you so much to all the staff who were especially kind and helpful :) This game makes more sense with fewer people, rather than a big team. As 2 people, we escaped with 2 hints and 8 minutes 37 seconds left on the clock. After playing Gold Rush, Timeliner, and The Depths, this was our favorite. Why it's my favorite: The game mechanisms blend brilliantly into the theme and story -- especially the final room. Nearly all of the puzzles were satisfying to solve. In some escape games, I groan at "yet another number/letter combination lock", but the puzzle designs were so on-theme, I barely noticed the combo locks. There were more unique actions in this game compared to other games I've played. I love when games design mechanisms especially for the theme. I'm also a fan of spy movies, and this was such a fun immersion as secret agents. The only misleading bit of info is the instruction to be careful and not damage anything -- yes, definitely follow this -- UNLESS there's a very specific instruction during the game. read more

I had a really great experience at The Escape Game at Valley Fair! My friend and I happened across it while shopping and we spontaneously booked the next available game. HEADS UP: These are not private rooms, so they will try to fill your game slot if possible (the max is 8 ppl). Me and my friend were grouped with 6 other people for a total group of 8. POLICIES: It's $45/person, which isn't bad compared to other escape rooms I've been to. They let you take your belongings with you into the escape rooms. You can take photos/videos as you wish. Unlimited hints! There's a big red button to push if you need a hint, and the hint will appear on the TV. They ask that everyone agrees to ask for a hint beforehand, so they don't spoil it for anyone who trying to solve the puzzle themselves. 60 minutes to escape, countdown displayed on the TV. THE HEIST: We played The Heist, the most difficult room (level 8 difficulty). The storyline is that you're trying to pull off a museum heist and steal a painting. I actually really enjoyed the detail put into the rooms. It was a little cramped for 8 people, but nothing too bad. Our party was actually super chill and we all had very little experience with escape rooms, but we all contributed pretty equally and were able to escape successfully! I liked the puzzles we had and I think this particular theme set my bar really high for the other rooms. I really want to try the Gold Rush or the Depths. Excited to go back! read more

Some places you have to wonder (or waste a hint) to see if a prop is a red herring or not. A little more pricy than others, but well worth it, IMO. My friends and I tried two games here within their first month of opening. I've played w/ this company before, but it was all virtual (Prison Break + The Heist) so I was excited to finally play their games in person! I must say...the space within the rooms were a bit tighter than what I am used to. I've been to at least 10 different physical escape room/companies before - almost half were with pretty big groups (6+ ppl), but never felt as cramped. However, the layouts, puzzles, storylines, decors, and etc, were still pretty great. Special Ops: Mysterious Market - I loveeed the decor. It was a bit dark, but manageable. Fun. Lots of things for people to fiddle with, so it's easier to split up and solve clues. We had 5 people for this game, but having 6 could probably be ok. The Depth - feels kinda trippy, as if I was in a submarine. I had slight motion sickness for some reason, even though the room wasn't even moving. The room feels a bit tighter than the Special Ops room. The clues are more linear in this game, and it was too cramped for 7 people in the submarine. Very unique ending to escaping the room though. If you can help it, it'd be best to have the room all to your friend group. There's not really enough space/clues to solve to be in the same room with different groups of stranger. It's very cool that they allow us to take pictures inside the actual room though! No restrictions on what you can take pics of - but, please don't give out spoilers lol. The game masters also try very hard to help your group and make sure everyone escapes on time lol. Some places really don't give you hints until you ask for it, but this company gives you nudges when they think you're stuck for too long (that's with the virtual rooms too). Definitely a great room for beginners. Oh. I also like that they give you sneak peaks of the other rooms when you're done. It's like getting free samples, except you can't eat it. read more

The Escape Game just opened a location at Valley Fair on the 2nd floor just down from Ramen Nagi. They have 5 rooms and we were able to book a room in online during their free room soft opening special. We played The Depths & our party of 2 was grouped with a party of 5. There are check in waivers to fill out prior before the game. The game master had us do an icebreaker before beginning. They allow bags and phones into the room and encourage photos unlike many other businesses I've been to prior. The Depths had 3 different rooms for us to solve clues. It was simple to follow because it does give a "check list/to do list" of things you need to solve. The puzzles were semi challenging but I think these would be great beginning rooms for those who have never done escape rooms before. Prices for the rooms are pretty on par with the market $45/person. There is a 40% discount if you book another room on the same day. read more

I came with a group of coworkers to do the Special Ops: Mystery Market game. There were 8 of us total so I didn't have to worry about strangers in the group. It was way too crowded--definitely a "too many cooks" situation. Large groups have broken communication, people were not communicating with each other what they solved and how, subgroups didn't share puzzle components with each other which delayed solving larger multi-part puzzles and I noticed several members were unable to participate. I know part of that reflects on my group's dynamics, but the fact that this escape room forces large bookings reflects poorly: that they care more about profits than their clients' experiences. My entire group knew each other--I can't imagine how it would be with strangers. I'm by no means an escape room veteran (I've only done 4 games before this one at other places) but I found some of the puzzles not challenging enough and I didn't feel satisfied when my group solved puzzles. On the bright side, the decor/ambience of the Special Ops room was really nice. There were practical effects to get you more immersed in the experience. For casual escape room visitors, for first-timers, it should be an ok experience. But in all honesty, I did not have fun. For $46, I want to have fun. I would look elsewhere for escape rooms. read more

My very first escape room was actually at The Escape Game Atlanta, so I had high hopes for this one. I came here for my birthday, with a party of 5 and figured it be fine if another 3 joined us, because I've done it before and it wasn't bad. I was absolutely wrong for this location. The random group of three who joined us last minute didn't consider us and solved all the problems despite me yelling out loud "We would like to try" and "I guess we don't get to try" multiple times. The others not allowing us to play, TEG can't do anything about that. However, what they could have done, knowing they heard everything going on in the room and can see what was going on, was to comp my group. My group got to solve 1 puzzle in the room. The most I got was having a private room for the next time I go. Icing on the cake - the person who greeted us afterwards (not the person who walked us in) said, "What great team work! You all escaped, would you like to take a photo?" I know it's your job, but please read the room. The room itself: I did Timeliner. I think it would have been a good experience if we didn't have the random people, but from what I observed, this was a very linear escape room. You need to solve one puzzle to get to the next. The only way you could solve more than one puzzle at a time was when you were in the side rooms. So, to have this as 7/10 difficulty and max 8 people, meh. Maybe it would have been 7/10 difficulty if it was a group of 3 or 4. With 8 people, it was quite boring since only one or two people are able to solve the problem at a time. Price: This is a higher priced experience. I get the area that TEG is in is much more expensive, but with $45.99 a person, each room should be private. When I asked how to get a private room, I was told I had to pay for all 8 spots. I love escape rooms and enjoy them often! I do escape rooms at least once every 2 months all over the Bay Area. I would love to try all of TEG's rooms, but I feel cheated from my experience today.. I feel like I spent over $200 for a random group to have their private experience and TEG only able to offer me a private room the next time. I'm hesitant to use it because why should I spend over $400 for essentially one experience? read more

My friends and I went last night for my birthday! My 2nd time there and we had a blast! The only available room was The Depths but we really wanted to do Gold Rush. Eric was able to move things around and get us the room we wanted. Really blown away by the set decorating and puzzles here, always a fun time with friends. Our guide, Jordan, was amazing! At the end, he handed me a card that said Happy Birthday signed by everyone who was working there. So thank you to The Escape Game team- Eric, Jordan, Camden, Maddy, Cielo, Sam P, and others for making it a fun and memorable experience! Definitely will be back for more escape room adventures. Love this place. We are big escape room enthusiasts and have done lots of games in the bay area and beyond and The Escape Game is in our favorites for sure.
