2 stars for the location. We came for Christmas Afternoon Tea, and while the location is beautiful and this reservation has become a meaningful and enjoyable tradition for our family, the service was profoundly disappointing. The staff came across as cold, disengaged, and lacking even the most basic attentiveness expected at a venue of this caliber.
While we understand it was a busy holiday period, that does not excuse the near-complete absence of table service. Staff did not make regular rounds to check on guests, refill teapots, clear used items, or ask whether anything was needed. We were seated in a very central and visible location, yet we repeatedly had to wave someone down for assistance--something that should never be necessary during a premium Afternoon Tea experience. The lack of proactive service felt negligent and significantly detracted from the occasion.
Whenever we travel, we intentionally seek out Afternoon Tea experiences, either at our hotel or at well-researched local venues. We selected the Park Hyatt Sydney based on both its reputation and our recent exceptional experiences at the Park Hyatt in Seoul and Bangkok. Unfortunately, the contrast could not have been more stark. Despite arguably having the best views and seating of any of our recent Afternoon teas, we left feeling overlooked and unvalued as guests.
Given the overwhelmingly positive reviews we had read, this experience was both surprising and disheartening. The pervasive sense of being ignored negatively colored our perception of the food and the experience as a whole. Ultimately, this was not a memory we will look back on fondly, which is especially disappointing for a tradition that has always been a highlight for our family. read more
