Definitely couldn't swing a cat (not that I would do, or ever have done, that) but it has that unique and homely NQ feel that makes MCR amazing. It was busy, so we managed to grab a small table for 2 in the corner and peruse the chocolates on offer whilst we waited. I chose 4 little chocolates - pistachio, dark chocolate, salted caramel and a weird, yet lovely stilton truffle. At over £1 each for a small, round chocolate that can easily be swallowed in one, the chocolates aren't cheap here - but they are hand made by the lady owner on-site in the workshop in the back. The chocolates on display can be chosen and devoured in the shop like we did, or you can box them up to take away or box them up as a gift! I ordered a salted caramel hot chocolate and spent a while enjoying it and chatting away. The hot chocolates are made with 66% melted dark chocolate with water - and are all dairy free. They don't fill you up and don't lie heavy on your stomach later on in the day, it's just an excellent, chocolately sugar fix.

Some are handmade by the owner, others are factory bred but still delish. They are known for their hot chocolate but recommendation is, if you get one, stick to the regular flavour. I purchased an orange flavour one, simply because I love citrus. A bit disappointing though as the drink was flavoured with little orange bits, almost like little pulp pieces. Other than that, it was a nice and warming esp for the frigid Manchester weather. It was nothing fancy but sometimes all you want is soothing chocolate to get-in-yo-bellllaayy! Drinks are around £3.50 and the chocolate bars vary in price but definitely a good idea for a brief chocolate indulging or simply as a nice gift.

Even though it is a small counter they have recently placed a few table and chairs outside so you can sit and relax instead of taking away. The staff are always friendly and tell you about any special offers. The Bobbin Baskins ice cream is absolutely delicious, but is slighly overpriced when compared to other ice cream parlours in town. Well worth a visit.

I shouldn't have to make an excuse to go here - It's excellent. The ground floor is their outstanding chocolate and cake shop - definitely worth spending some time here tasting and choosing what they have on offer. Their selection of over 40 celebration cakes on display are stunning - you'll find yourself staring at them like some sort of art. A few of the wedding cakes are pushing £1,000.. asking if it would be worth it? For me, yes! Their cakes are amazing - no wonder Wayne Rooney bought his wedding cake from here and had it shipped to Italy. You'll find me with my face pressed up against the viewing window where you can watch the cake decorators working hard to perfect these masterpieces *drool* I'm certainly not planning my wedding or anything but I already know that there's a massive possibility that my cake will be from here. On the first floor is an elegant restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and of course CAKE. The menu is fab and I haven't heard anybody mention a bad word about it. I have yet to visit the restaurant and I hear that unless you book weeks in advance you've no chance of getting in, but this only makes me want to try it even more and it is certainly on my list. In the past I have bought baskets from here and made my own hampers, mainly for family or friends at Christmas time - consisting of chocolates, hand make cakes, biscuits, marmalades, wines etc (all locally sourced). This wonderful shop is set in a shopping precinct on a main road, but it has a car park! You can't miss it since its logo is bright pink and black. As soon as me and my papa walked in we were super lovely greeted by big smiles from the staff. The selection of cakes is fab, but they specialise in celebration cakes including big extravaganzabonanza wedding cakes (visit the shop in Wilmslow for the best display). The cakes we so tempting I just asked the lady to put me a box together of her favourites and I couldn't wait to get home and open it to see what I had been given. Turns out it was a florentine (my all time fav, and my oh my it was good!), a custard filled lemon bun (wow), a caramel shortcake and a chocolate muffin with chocolate frosting and marshmallows! All were super tasty and I feel really pleased with the lady's choice. We didn't buy any bread from here today but the owner kindly let us sample the hot cross buns which the bakery boasts are the best in the area. I don't think she's got a challenge on her hands (unless she crosses the ringroad) they were really really good and soft and fresh and amazing. They make the cute chocolate cakes with buttons on top wich we get as a special treat. There items are always priced fair and you are always served fast. As you can imagine the staff are well presented and even wear little hats and gloves as they should in a food place. They are always attentive and very helpfill. Greggs have also started doing ready made sandwichs and selling crisps making them abit more than just a bakers. However am not to impressed with these i would stick to the pastries and sausage rolls. :)

Nevertheless, I'm overjoyed that my very favourite cupcakery has moved from their temporary pop-up shop to Little Quay Street at the back of our business district, on that same walkway the suits use to nip to Tesco for milk, sandwiched between a sandwich (LOLz) shop (La Piazza) and Nando's. Er, talk about location location location. What office worker is going to be able to resist a box of cupcakes during the milk run? What lunch buyer or Nando's diner would forgo dessert here? You'd have to have a near Buddhist self-discipline and willpower to do so. And why deny yourself? These cupcakes are everything a cupcake should be - cute, sexy, melt-in-the-mouth, piled with delectable I-don't-even-want-to-know-what's-in-it frosting, and the sponge? Well, I have a confession to make. I'm the kind of person that eats the filling in the sandwich and gets tired of the bread, and the same often goes for cupcakes where I'm concerned. Not with these little treasures. The cake batter manages to be lightly whipped, moist and dense all at the same time. Anybody who disagrees needs to take their tastebuds to the doctor. Stat. I tried two newbies (for me), the red velvet cupcake and the Nutella-themed variety, and as always they were pure perfection. I really need to try the Canadian Syrup and Irish Cream flavours too, mental note for next time! I also noticed an extra addition... brownies. Awesome. Pure awesome. I had to snaffle a couple to take away, and sure enough they ticked all the brownie boxes too. The ladies can bake any cupcake dairy and gluten free, and they're some of the friendliest people you'd ever have the pleasure of meeting. Plus, the shop looks absolutely stunning, as does the artwork. And they just about killed me with joy when I spotted Illy Coffee and Teapigs Tea. Long will I continue to find excuses to return to the business district if only for my box of Hey Little Cupcakes!

Working on Spinningfields means I've eaten my share of Hey Little Cupcake in the last 18 months…read more The store continues to hold its kitsch charm with white and pink decorations, plus baking items, cards and prints available to purchase alongside the sweet treats. Our most recent visit was to purchase a box of 6 for the team back in the office. It was late afternoon but still plenty of stock to choose from, plus brownies on the top shelf. I've also had some delicious marshmallow ice cream in the past, which I believe will come back in the summer. Service was friendly enough and patient with the length of time it took for us to choose our 6 flavours. The only confusion was that they had Tweeted about Nutella cupcakes earlier in the day but had none in stock! They did, however, have some special Chinese New Year cupcakes which was a favourite in the office. After scoffing down the monkey topped CNY exclusive, I think I prefer these plainer cakes; we were treated to some Valentine's Day mini-cupcakes last month which were just as delicious, simple vanilla sponge and light creamy icing. A Spinningfields staple which I'm sure will continue to attract visitors from all over.
