I come here on Saturday mornings for my Insanity Class (held elsewhere during the week), but it's the venue for loads of classes during the week. A quick look at their timetable and you'll see familiar names like Zumba, CrossFit and Kettlebells, so there's a variety of classes to suit everyone. The room itself is a large gym hall type space, unheated but don't worry you'll warm up soon, with a stage at the front and various accoutrements of the classes tidied away. It's an ideal space for classes with plenty of room either side of you. As you enter you're immediately met by a small kitchen/lounge area with a couple of sofas, a fridge, kettle etc. This is a great touch as not only does it provide us with somewhere to wait before the class begins, but if you need to refill your bottle, or sit and have a natter, you're sorted. I can't speak as to the other classes, as like I said I only come here once a week for Insanity, but it's a good venue and I'd recommend trying it out. Don't let the February Fitness Cliff get you, stay motivated and #digdeep!

AoN is one of Edinburghs most unique theatrical performance companies…read more If you like dancing, theatre and everything up in the air you'll definitely enjoy their shows. I did see '123 Here We Go' as well as 'Uncharted Waters' a couple of years ago and was impressed by the choreography, music and artists work, which created a magical atmosphere. As much as a ballet dancer relies on their partners, an aerial dancer relies on trapezes, poles, ropes and silks to receive support, balance and show spectacular moves above the floor. I like to see how flight and fall can be so dramatic, breathtaking and beautiful at the same time. You'll forget that there is anything like gravity with all these high-flying performers. When I moved to Edinburgh I used the chance to join AoN as a student to extend my dancing skills from floor based to aerial styles. AoN runs classes at 'Out of the Blue' as well as 'DanceBase' from beginners to professionals. However, the classes at DanceBase are always fully booked (that is for the evening classes, not too sure about day time) so you need to be very quick to get accepted. The class is super fun and you'll learn about trapeze, silks, hoop and ropes. I was broozed and in absolute pain the first days after class but built strenghts quickly and it's getting better! Also the pain is worth it as it's great fun and feels so good to be able doing a new move! To me AoN is a great gift to Edinburghs dancing scene and if you like to watch dance go and see their shows or/and join their classes! Keeps you fit and it's much more fun than going to a gym (never understood people paying money for indoor running and lifting weights).

Unfortunately, due to starting Uni, working and any other excuses I can make up for becoming lazy I just can't seem to find time for dancing apart from a boogie on a night out. This is a real shame as it's something I've always loved doing. I've seen various classes advertised for adults but what puts me off is that fact that you usually have to pay a subscription fee and a lump sum for a block of classes most of which I'll probably miss. So, when I found out that Dance Glasgow offer classes where you pay whenever you go I was ecstatic! On average the price for a class is around £6 but usually £4 if you are a student which is amazing. They offer an extensive range of classes, better than I've seen anywhere else and they're always held in central city centre locations. Adult classes include; Beginners and intermediate ballet Pop videos - I definitely need to check this one out as it would be so much fun learning a popular dance routine and it's such an excellent idea! Hip Hop Pussycat Dolls Workout Contemporary Dance and they even have a Glee club on a Monday night where you learn a song from Glee and the dance moves too... this class lasts for two hours and is £8 (£6). Amazing! If, like me, the thought of going to the gym in unbearably boring then grab some friends and pick a class from Dance Glasgow, you'll be getting fit and have a great time too.

They even have student discounts on some classes, or you can buy gift vouchers and 10-class or unlimited cards. I've been coming here for years and everyone's welcome, there's always a mixture of ages, shapes and sizes so don't feel like you have to be a skelf or super-fit already to get involved. All the staff and instructors are encouraging and know what they're doing. Nobody's going to tell you off for not keeping up with the routines. Nobody's going to make you pay for anything in sweat. I can particularly recommend Karoliina's dancehall classes for ladies who know they have a bum, but aren't quite sure what to do with it on a dancefloor :-) The yoga and stretch and tone classes are also excellent. They have a venue in the west end and a newer location in Jamaica Street as well, check their website or Facebook page to see a timetable of what's on where. Both locations are in old buildings, and the west end one in particular is a bit cold in winter and roasting in the summer, but dress accordingly and you'll be fine. Get dancing!

They were not capable of having a two way interaction . I enquired about their drum options , the first guy tried to disempower me but failed , cause I did not pronounce the word Pearl in a way that suited his inflated sense of being. However I used the word Pearl in two unrelated conversations earlier in the day and in one latter with proper Scottish people and one person from Yorkshire they understood my use of the word. However it was not down to that one bone of contention , the person I refer to at colour sounds was not friendly and when I asked if they can put the cymbals on before a session he said most drummers know how to do it and made similar negative passive aggressive comments , His tone was silly and pretensions. Not many can afford an acoustic kit so if I've been practising on electrical kits or other more affordable compact kits that are appropriate to use in economic standard modern build accommodation . But I guess I should get out until I learn how to put cymbals in and off . I asked for what I state cause I was going into a unfamiliar environment , dyselxic and did not want to go trial and error with other peoples equipment . The second guy when I tried to ask if all the kits avaliable at the time would be pearl could not give a straight answer then finally said just all you need to do is turn up and be here. The he said everyone is a pearl when the other guy said some are pearl others are cheap . That was after he made his big I don't know what your on about attempt.\ He could have just answered the question without needing to get his jock strap out . I ditched the booking as I did not like the guy believing he had some form of authority over me . As a perspective paying customer I make enquries and I decide . I don't just go along with some aspiring jobsworth if they iratate me I just work harder to keep building a home studio and save for the accoustic . With reharsel spaces like Banna Row and Colour sounds I get inspired to work faster and harder to get that done. I'm not surprised less and less young people are drawn to forming bands and dealing with pretensious staff at studios . How don't have any great power over the market in fact they are lucky to cling on as home recording and a wider availability of good recording tools and practice kits that can be played so as not to disturb others in the home environment win out .

I CAN'T STOP GOING!…read more It's not hard for me to write this review, even thought I'm fairly new. I've only been going to CaveFit for 8 weeks, but in this short time I've noticed so many changes. Of course my ability in the gym has increased hugely. I still hate the Assault Bike, but when I first started I could barely managed 30secs on it, now I'm mashing out 3x1min during a block of 3 exercises, in a class with 3 blocks in it. That might not sound a lot but I feel it's a huge achievement. One of the reasons I can't stop going is due to the pure positive vibes and community. It's not just the trainers, although the staff of CaveFit are without any doubt the best people, but the members of the gym are also incredible, it's fun, competitive and encouraging. It's not just about in the gym. I may die in the CaveHit or CaveFit classes, but I smile for the rest of the day knowing I smashed it. My work rate is faster at work, my sleep is better, I wake up faster, my heart rate is down. When I started, I remember the feeling going into my first session, and I walk out feeling like an idiot for ever thinking about being nervous at the start of the session. I write this jut after a Friday lunch session, and I can't wait for my next session next week! (But I might get a cheeky Saturday morning session in too!)

Pete is the guy behind this demon gym and he's a great guy who takes the time to explain things really well. He's super approachable yet still pushes you to work hard without making you want to hit him with something.. Popped along to their open gym/induction this morning and had a great workout. At £6 a session (less if you buy in blocks), it's good value. The only downside being, it's rather difficult to get to if you don't drive..
