I've asked them to send over paperwork for release of information for CT, they sent the wrong paperwork. They also were to send out the paper to my chosen oral surgeon and never sent it out! It's been over 2 weeks. So frustrating. I never make reviews but people need to know what they're investing into! They walked me through whatever they were working on, letting me know what was happening at all times. They pulled together a great plan to let me know what my options were and let me decide at my leisure. However, the hygienist seemed in a rush. I've never seen anyone scrape teeth that fast, and let me tell you, my gums still feel it nearly a week later. That would be why they got a lower rating. All in all, I would say I hate this dentist less than most, and that's about the highest compliment I can offer for that particular profession. (I really, really don't like going, nothing against this particular office).

I was repeatedly asked to provide payment more than 1 year after a crown, without clear explanation or documentation regarding the status of insurance appeals on why coverage was denied. Pre-authorization was not obtained. Alina demanded payment with no explanation on how to alleviate issue on approval and proper documentation for the 2nd crown. The first crown was presented as medically necessary, with the explanation that failure to proceed could result in a root canal which is why we proceeded. Given the importance of this treatment, the lack of clear communication, documentation and transparency around insurance appeals was particularly concerning. Overall, the process reflected poor communication, insufficient documentation and inadequate explanation regarding insurance handling and patient financial responsibility. Extremely unprofessional and very disappointed in the service.

In addition, they also removed two wisdom teeth for free. I don't generally do well at dentists, but Doctor Duenes and her excellent assistant Tim were really great. They explained everything they needed to do in detail and also used a ton of Novocaine so the pain wasn't too bad. The extractions went quick and were almost pain free. They even let me keep the teeth afterwards! As a nice side bit, I'm low income, so they waived the $15 PPE fee for the first visit since it got kinda sprung on me by surprise and my insurance doesn't cover it. A+ would visit again.

The day of the operation was very straightforward. One of the people even walked me to my car to make sure I was okay. Dr. Ballin took the time to make sure I understood exactly what would happen during the operation. The instructions provided were very clear and easy to understand for the upcoming week of healing and they even sent me a letter! I was very impressed. Dr. Ballin was matter of fact but kind, however, during my procedure I became a bit scared due to medical PTSD from an extended hospital stay because of being caught in a house fire. Something triggered that, and I began to mildly hyperventilate. Rather than speak kindly and softly to me to try to calm me down, Dr. Ballin became irritated and snapped at me to calm down and not hyperventilate. This did not help. When I went to see him for the wisdom tooth removal consult, totally unprompted, he told me, "Because of how your throat is built, you would still have sleep apnea even if you weren't so heavy." Thanks for the comment on my weight, sir, but pretty sure I did not ask for your opinion either on that or on sleep apnea. He lost my business after this. I now use OMS. If you're thin, he's a great oral surgeon, but if you're "heavy" I'd suggest avoiding his practice since he seems to be unable to keep his thoughts on appearance to himself.
