Don't be fooled by the 4 star rating. Our experience at this hotel was second rate and one of the worst. We've stayed at plenty of 3 star hotels that were 100x better. Where should I start? The moment we stepped into the lobby for the first time, we got a whiff of raw sewage smell even through our masks. Check-in was seamless and we got to our room quickly. Our room was on the 8th floor in the back corner - the window faced an apartment building which you can see right through people's homes which was strange. Within 10 minutes, after the vent turned on, we could smell the same sewage stink that we smelled in the lobby. We called the front desk and asked to be moved to another room. There was no way we could stay there. The smell was so bad. We got moved to the 7th floor to a larger room with a nice city view. The downside to the room is that the TV did not work well. The sound was noticeably scratchy and the colors were way too saturated. Then the water flow from the sink made it hard to wash hands and face. The water sprays everywhere. Lastly, the water pressure was way too light. Oh, and they don't give free water bottles. We just boiled the sink water, which was disgusting. The bed was comfy though. Bottom line: do not stay here nor expect 4 star hotel service. read more

Check in is at 3. Showed up around 3:35-3:40. Was told the room was not ready but would be ready in 30 minutes, and comped 2 drinks at the bar. Sat and waited. Had to check with the front desk twice and was finally able to get a room around 5pm. Wasn't told room number and had to wait again to get that info. We headed to the room and found all the pillows on the floor without pillowcases. We called the front desk and the woman on the phone was kind but tried to move us to a king bed suite with a pullout sleeper (we had 2 queens). While I appreciate trying to move us, a pullout when we waited for the 2 beds is not an appropriate solution. When the pillow cases were dropped off (quickly, thankfully) they knocked and opened the door before we could even walk over to open it. And the pillow cases are stained. It's just been mis-step after mis-step here. They said they will comp a night after complaining but we should have booked elsewhere and would recommend the same. Update: We found blood on the comforter (in addition to the pillow cases having stains) the first night. Photos attached. We also found food from the previous guest in the fridge (soup) and called the front desk to report it. They moved us to a different room and we didn't have issues after that. After being moved, it was like staying at a completely different hotel. They comped a room for a night. Since it ruined our stay, I have to honestly say I still wouldn't recommend staying here. Book elsewhere. 3/4 of the staff we dealt with were very kind, but it shouldn't take this much complaining to get a hotel to honor the basic necessity of a clean room. hate to use the analogy again, but the Darcy is like a beautiful girl who is just a trainwreck once you get to know her. the Darcy looks sleek and stylish but upon actual stay is crap on the inside. nothing functioned smoothly or properly. only chose the Darcy because it was reasonably priced and allowed dogs. had to switch rooms twice before finally settling on a room. first room was by the elevator with thin walls. fine, our fault for not specifying. don't make our mistake. second room, the hvac system rattled and sounded like a train was running through the room. the front desk agreed saying they heard the sound through the phone. even found a pube on the bed (see photo). eww. both rooms I tried, the water pressure was terrible. the sinks were a pain to wash my hands because water barely came out. I mean noticeably bad. bathrooms were tiny and cramped, and the toiletries did not feel very clean. walls were paper thin, and you could hear neighbors talking or doing whatever they were doing. free happy hour gin, but both days we were there, it either ended short of the advertised 30 minutes or started late. don't be fooled by appearances. the looks of a 4 star hotel, but just off. you can find better in a hotel and hospitality. read more

Strong 4 stars. The front desk staff were friendly, professional and very helpful. The room was clean, nicely decorated but the bed was hard and not comfy for me or my daughter. The 5:30-6pm free cocktail in the lobby/bar area was a nice touch. The man doing it could have been a bit more personable. I.D'd my obviously adult 25 year old daughter and gave us both the once over. Strange creature. The valet guys were friendly and helpful. Housekeeping staff knocked on the room door at 8am asking if we were leaving soon. Bit odd considering check out isn't until 11am. The front desk were lovely and accommodating about leaving our car at the hotel until 5pm even though we were checking out that morning. Sort of helps alleviate the $60 valet parking charge bruise. The area was perfect to get about the city. My daughter and me walked about the area until about 9pm and felt safe. It's a nice walk to area restaurants. We did Uber to get to museums and the WH. A quaint, boutique hotel near the convention center when I was in town for business. Check-in was a breeze and quick. The bathrooms were definitely tight - one misstep and your toiletries could end up in the toilet as that's how tight everything felt. There is also a $30 amenities fee on upon checkout - I feel like boutique hotels can really get you there. The restaurant had awful service so I highly recommend skipping out on that and dining elsewhere. read more

I was excited to see another Hilton property pop up in the NW area of D.C. The short: this Hilton is a boutique-style hotel with clean, renovated, trendy rooms & friendly staff. The longer: I travel to D.C. quite a bit, and constantly struggle with sold out, decent Hilton hotel rooms, so this is a very welcome addition to this area! There's a digital key option, good wifi, a quaint but clean gym (with treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, weights & a water cooler), and the rooms are very cute and comfortable. My AC worked wonderfully, the bed was comfy, and they are generous with towels. I was also VERY into their robe. That robe is fluffy & comfy AF. Only thing I didn't love was the large size bottles of shampoo & conditioner. I prefer samples (they feel cleaner). There's no lounge, but they give you a $15 voucher for breakfast. Room service was awesome, too, I had the halibut from Siren downstairs and it was probably the best room service meal I've ever had. Overall, great option and I'll definitely be back. read more

I met a couple of friends here for breakfast and I really liked it. I may actually spend a weekend here. The food was great and the variety was satisfying. Eggs were cooked perfectly and as requested (I'm picky with my eggs) Service was great, I wasn't sure where the restaurant was but the lobby staff helped me kindly and our server Rasheed was extremely attentive and kind. This place is a hotel for dogs who bring their owners with them. If you can't live without your dog, then this place is for you. There are dog treats on the counter as soon as you walk in; people carrying their dogs. Just DOGS, DOGS, DOGS! I am allergic to pet dander, so imagine my dismay upon checking in. :( I won't be back. Fantastic location, competitive pricing and depending on your booking option, they waive the pestilential "amenity fees" which annoy absolutely everyone. Their attitude toward guests is excellent. Dining room people are friendly and the food is tasty. Housekeeping people smile and say hello. Door people are polite. Front desk people are - for the most part- truly welcoming, but they do have one or two bad apples at the check-in desk.. To be fair, when management was advised of this, they more than took care of it and when one colleague saw a check in person acting against the reservation notes, he acted quickly and clearly to make the situation right. So yes, The Darcy is my home away from home when visiting DC. read more

We booked this hotel for our wedding night. That was the first mistake. When we realized that none of the amenities listed online were available, we tried to change the reservation. We were told that either we stay that night, or email the finance department with our request. Not only did the finance department never respond to our email or calls, when we finally got a hold of the hotel because they neglected to communicate in any way, we were told that the amenities we were hoping to have in a hotel were not actually amenities. Which is odd, considering they charge a pretty hefty surplus for amenities at the hotel in the form of at least $30 per night. They were inflexible and unwilling to come to a solution with us. They are keeping the money and have provided no options for us to use the room we booked at another time. Staff were rude and short with us when trying to talk to them about our situation, certainly not ideal for someone's wedding day. That's stealing, right? (Would it have hurt to congratulate us for getting married in the middle of a pandemic, against the odds?) read more

I've stayed here twice in the past month. It's a great DC choice --- better than chain options and a bit cheaper. There is a lot to like about this hip hotel. The common areas are comfortable, the bar and its food is great and the fitness center has not one but two Peloton bikes. It's main problem is just room noise: bring earplugs. Street noise isn't bad at floor 5 but the maids talk loud and very early in the morning! A smaller problem is that the standard rooms don't have bathtubs. That being said the service is awesome: smiling and helpful doorman and on a day I had to walk in a deluge the front desk gave me, free, a very nice logo umbrella. read more

The Darcy of the Hilton group is a lovely and unique place to stay. It is part of the luxury level of the Hilton brand and it definitely shows in their attentive service and interior design choices. The Darcy is very conveniently located in downtown DC making it a great choice if you enjoy the walkable nature of this city. The thermostat in the room was easy to operate and quick to respond to make the room feel comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was awesome. The bathroom was kind of small (the ceilings in the hallway were also strangely low - I chalk both up to the fact that it's an older building. My only critiques are the following: the coffee supplies should include more than just one cup (maybe at least two?) and the toilet tissue holder makes it hard to tear your portion of tissue off without taking the whole roll with it. read more

Rooms were fine, on the small side with tiny bathroom. Close to where I needed to be for convention center and office. Was told I had a $20 credit to be used in bar/restaurant and then during check out no one knew what I was talking about and basically laughed in my face. Not great service and so t say you have perks when you can't deliver. Wish I could say better things because it's a cute place and can tell it's striving for the right things. I'll admit that as a loyal Hilton Hhonors member, most of my stays are at Hampton Inns, Hilton Garden Inns, and deals I get on Doubletrees. Every once in a while I come across a higher end boutique hotel option with a low price, either because it is out of season in the area, or in the case of the Darcy, they are newly opened and getting people in the door. I was looking for a hotel to stay at for my work trip this week and as I looked online I noticed the Darcy was one of the few Hilton properties offering Government rate during the week I'd be in DC. The pictures on the website looked very nice and it was also brand new so I went ahead and booked here. The day I arrived, I was happily greeted by a rep behind the counter who explained to me that the Darcy is part of the Hilton Boutique line of hotels. It is named after a fictional character who is British and is very similar to the male character from 50 Shades of Grey. The rooms are very chic and trendy and everything was very colorful and clean. My only complaint is that the thermostat is worse than a jigsaw puzzle. I've tried to keep it at 74 but it continues to say it is 68 degrees in the room and I am freezing. When I checked in I also received a $15 breakfast voucher for each day of my stay. I was quite excited until I actually used my vouchers and realized that the $15 only gets you a small selection of pastries and the selection of fruit is limited to pineapple, honeydew, and melon. It also includes coffee and tea and your choice of juice or milk. Needless to say I was not very impressed with their selection for breakfast and the fact that they lack a Concierge Lounge for elite members. When I travel I like to stay at a hotel that will at least provide me with a decent breakfast because I don't want to get to work hangry. The hotel itself is off of Rhode Island Avenue and is quite close to the Dupont Circle neighborhood. Each night of my stay I got to go to several good restaurants that were in walking distance. Overall it was not a bad stay but I would definitely enjoy seeing a better breakfast selection in the morning. read more

I tried to avoid giving this place a one star because the lady at check-in was so pleasant and welcoming but everything beyond that has been a terrible experience. Arrival: I arrived to the property and approached the double doors which were locked and I was not greeted. I made sure to arrive right around 3, which is check-in, so it was odd that there was not more of a presence upon arrival. Self parking: It's a swindle. I had to follow a gentleman through an alley who guided me to a garage which is not easily accessible. I also had to relinquish my keys and I was not parked in a tandem spot. It is very sketchy, overpriced and not clearly outlined on the website. Room: It was decent for the price. Nothing fancy. I was not aware that the property is showers only unless you call in advance. The photo gallery is very misleading. Guest Services: Beyond my check-in experience, customer service is lackluster. I inadvertently forgot my mask when walking back into the bldg. Albeit embarrassing, I asked the front desk for one and they asked for $2...as a meeting planner who contracts hotels and other vendor partners, I was shocked but did not make a fuss. I then decided to frequent the complimentary happy hour. I should have stayed in my room. The same gentleman who flippantly said masks are $2, was also serving the drinks. He was not friendly and seemed bored honestly which wasn't very welcoming. However the custom drink was nicely made and well packaged. Also, don't forget to bring your own water or frequent a local store because water is $6 exclusive of tax and they don''t even offer one complimentary water in a smaller size. Needless to say, I will not be back and prefer my Kimptons when it comes to "boutique" hotels. Don't expect much when staying here outside of prime location. read more

I used The Darcy as the room block for my wedding last weekend and it was a nightmare from beginning to end. EVERY single person had a problem booking a room, many were told there weren't rooms in our block (there were) and were encouraged to pay the higher price. We went through 4 event managers over a year (which is COVID, I get it) but there was no handover, my emails would just go unanswered for weeks. The room my mom was in had no heat so they switched her and then put my mother-in-law in the SAME room without heat a few hours later. We asked the bar to be open for our after party, got confirmation TWICE in emails that they would stay open for us and of course the bar never got the memo and we had to beg them to stay open. The bartenders both nights we were there were incredibly rude and refused to make some drinks because they were too time consuming. (Then don't have them on the menu!) Honestly this was the worst experience of the wedding and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The only saving grace was the lovely concierge staff and bell hops. read more

I would never suggest staying here. At first, I thought the staff was friendly but that was not the case as I later realized. The walls in this hotel are extremely thin. Like EXTREMELY. My room was two doors away from the elevator and I could hear it every time it opened and closed. I did not sleep at all the first night because once I was finally getting used to the sound, a group of drunk people were making their way down the hallway. Even worse, my hotel neighbors were extremely loud in their personal business and it was EXTREMELY disturbing. I tried giving a little knock on the door to let them know to quiet down. After that, I had asked the reception if there was anything they could do, and the only answer I got was that they could not leave the front since there alone. So understaffing the hotel is now my problem? It just flat out sucked! And their happy hour- I gotta call them out, you need to check IDs if you are going to be handing out free cocktails. Bottom line. Last but not least- when I was making my way to the cab, the greeter did not offer to help me with my luggage. Don't pose as a fancy hotel with staff outside the door if they are not even going to assist with rudimentary assistance. I have been to WAY better hotels with what I paid for at the Darcy. Highly disappointing and to hear the business of other hotel stayers is just so gross. Like I could hear everything through the room and the bathroom. Although remodeled, you can still see some of the old mixed with the new. It's near Logan Circle and I loved how i can easily walk to Whole Foods and a bunch of local bars. read more

It was our first time in Washington D.C. and the Darcy Hotel was the perfect spot. If you enjoy walking you can walk to all the historic monuments, museums and nearby restaurants. The entry way to the room itself was small and although the room itself was average size the bathroom was tiny. I couldn't really sleep well because the ac was a little loud for me. They also add a $25 service fee per day to your stay but this includes free bottled water, WiFi, gym access and happy hour at the bar. read more

I wanted to give The Darcy a better review but my stay abruptly turned horrible so it was merely okay. My partner & I stayed here this past weekend, February 8th through February 10th. Check in was easy outside of the $250 deposit they requested. I know all hotels charge a deposit but $250 is a bit ridiculous to hold. Cedric was informative of the different things to do in the area and was accommodating for our early check in. Check in is typically at 3 p.m. but I was able to get a room at 9 a.m. which I was grateful for. Cedric informed us of their daily gin tasting at 5:30 in the lobby/restaurant so we were pretty excited. First days stay was great. They have robes, (if you are a little on the thicker side or have any stomach/thighs, they probably won't fit), the shower pressure is awesome and it gets so hot, and the artwork all throughout the hotel and rooms is so cute and creative. Moving on to the reason I was unable to give The Darcy a better review. First, they charge you $25 to rent a microwave. If a hotel costs $250+, you would think I could have a means to heat up some food for free but I guess not. During my two-night stay, no one ever came to make up the bed or straighten up the room so I am not sure if that's not a thing here but it did not happen during my stay and we never had the do not disturb sign up or anything. And lastly, on the last night of my stay, another hotel guest somehow was able to enter my room and jump on the bed while we were sleeping at 6 a.m. The guest was obviously intoxicated or under the influence of something but my partner & I could not seem to understand how their keycard could work on our door. I immediately got dressed and went down to the lobby and Jasmine was working at this time. She apologized, empathized, and informed me that there had been a previous issue with this guest specifically and that she had just received calls from other guests about him attempting to get in other guests rooms. I want to commend Jasmine and Charles who remained calm during the situation and who reassured me that when a manager came in, that I could talk to them about this. Charles also walked me back up to my room as I was severely frightened and shaken up by the situation. To say the least, my partner & I did could not go back to sleep until checkout and when I mentioned it to the woman (shift manager I am assuming) at the front desk, she simply said, "Oh yeah, we aren't going to make you pay for the one night". That's it? I didn't so much as care about the money and I was grateful for the reimbursement but she didn't even ask if I was okay, what she could do to make me feel the best, etc. It's just that the extra level of care was missing. On to brighter news, Corey, the Director of Rooms, did reach out to me today and we will be talking in the future so hopefully Corey is a bit more empathetic to this situation like Jasmine and Charles were. Overall, The Darcy is a chic hotel located within walking distance to a lot of great restaurants, transportation, and more. The rooms are clean, stylish, and provide you with the basics of what you need. Would I stay again? Maybe, but that depends on how my interaction with Corey goes. read more

The most disappointing hotel experience I've ever had. It started with a king bed city view room the size of a closet and ended with water line shutoff for 4 hours two nights in a row. The water line shutoff was apparently part of planned maintenance, but the General Manager did not think it worthwhile to proactively warn guests about this. A trip to the front desk at 11PM to report the lack of water in the room (which included the toilet water tank not refilling after one flush) prompted the nighttime concierge staff to briskly hand me a letter from a large stack apologizing for the inconvenience. No water bottles proactively left in rooms, no advance warning so guests could plan accordingly, just $50 off my weeklong stay when I raised the issue at checkout. The rooms themselves are dated and not at all as pictured, there is a $30 per night "amenity fee" with no amenities to speak of except for a complimentary gin/ginger from 5-5:30PM nightly. I was thoroughly disappointed by my stay and will be frequenting properties like Hotel Zena and The Ven on future trips to DC. read more

I ended up opening the window but that was pretty loud with dc traffic, sirens, etc. so I didn't sleep well the 4 nights I was there. If that doesn't bother you, then you're good to go! We enjoyed our stay at The Darcy Hotel (which does not look anything like the pictures we saw on Yelp). It's nice inside and very clean and newer looking. The attached restaurant is upscale and serves very good food at high prices. Rooms are quiet, which we like. Bathrooms are European style (small). They have people to open the door for you when you walk up to the hotel and most of the staff are great. They also offer a free Darcy cocktail between 5:00-5:30 in the evening. We tried it and both of us thought it was good. Unfortunately, since the Smithsonian Museums don't close until 5:30 pm, we only got to enjoy this benefit once during our stay. The only downside was that if you have anything wrong in the room and you need assistance, no one will ever come to your room to fix the problem. We tried twice to get assistance (both on the phone and in person at the front desk) and my husband ended up fixing the stopped up sink after we got there and then he figured out how to fix the rattling noise from the furnace vent. Lucky for me, he's REALLY good at fixing things because, as I mentioned, repeated requests for help go unanswered - maybe they don't have maintenance people there? Dunno.
