It's located right off Main Street, and has plenty of parking, plenty of tables, free wifi, and lots of books. There's plenty of natural lighting in this place, as it's covered with windows. It makes for a relaxing place to get out a book and read for a spell. My favorite thing was the geneaological area that they're keeping. They have old obituaries, family trees, and newspaper articles about old family names, maps of old plats of land, and all sorts of stuff to look up historical facts. Kudos to whoever is keeping up those files. The library also offers a kids section, where they can even sort of play and read by the window without disturbing the patrons. It's not the quietest of libraries, but it offers so many features that are great benefits to the community. The library offers all kinds of public classes, speeches, clubs and meetings here. This is a great place! Fairfield was one of the first recipients (if not THE first) of the Carnegie Library fund to build libraries in rural areas. The Carnegie Library is now a museum and located just a few blocks away, which is quite apt.

This is a godsend to me. It's a very pleasant and beautiful setting. It's a joy to spend time at the library. I also appreciate that there are so many tables and internet spaces, a copying machine, and a lot of very good books. Someone has been very selective that for a relatively small library (compared to a big city), it has a wonderful selection of books. I also love the books for sale and the book sales. There are many special features and programs for the community as well. The staff is beyond wonderful. It's a great perk to living in Fairfield, just knowing the library is here and I love going here as much as I can. I agree that the library seems like a community meeting space. It's a wonderful place to spend time reading, researching, looking at magazines (a wonderful collection) and books. I feel so lucky to have this library available to me.

This library carries the usual books, a surprisingly large magazine section (with the latest issues available), DVDs, music, etc. There is a large Children's section too. There is also a large room of used books you can buy (see separate listing for Secondhand Prose)! There is an Illinois Room devoted to history of the area, including a genealogy section, with microfiche machines for newspapers dating back to 1853! The staff here is very friendly, and the vibe overall is very welcoming. All that you could ask for in a library!

As a kiddo-- story time, summer reading programs, movie nights, computer games to play and a plethora of toys scattered throughout the secluded children's section! Not to mention books, movies, video games, puzzles and more to bring home. As a college kid-- a quiet, air conditioned spot that has newer movies as well as video games to checkout for free. (Take that Redbox. And you, Netflix for not having the movie or season I reallllly wanted to watch!) They also loan equipment like bluray players, laptops and hotspots. Plus, study rooms on the second level are available. As an adult-- THEY LOAN ART, ya'all! A Digital Media Lab also lives here with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite Software. And their digital library is impressive with Kanopy, Local Music Project, RBdigital and more! Parking CAN be an issue-- I'd recommend the Dubuque Street Ramp, which is a block away. First hour free. The new one should be able to get more funding and serve the whole city and zipcode of Aledo (which it currently does not, a town of only 3800) and the entire county, and should be fully tax supported, probably the only library in Illinois to not even serve the entire town, so in order to be considered public it should have to. Public libraries were created to serve the community with free book loans (and now free ebook loans!). Imagine if the public school only served half of Aledo, or the police or ambulance. It is a public service, and deserves the community's full support! Have to say I don't like the current policy of locking the restrooms and also do not recommend the current site they are looking to move the library (a waste site not fit for a store that is across from electric transformers and next to a gas station too small to fit or serve the public. Transformers have been shown to cause radiation & this location is not a safe distance away). I am asking Aledo to be finally generous with your local library and give it at least an acre to make it a learning center. Refusing it local grant and tax assistance and not serving the entire county is ridiculous. Let's make a five star facility on the edge of town that can actually serve all of Mercer County's 40,000 residents, not just the mere 2,000 it currently serves. A bigger, better library will grow with the community & attract more people to move to it. Already excellent staff & service, so give the community the library it really deserves! Update: not happy with using waste land across from an electric grid which causes electromagnetic radiation and pollution, or with their restrictive policies on not allowed to charge phones, having to get a key for the restroom. It should be treated as a public resource. What other school or restaurant locates next to an electric grid? Why? Because it is a liability and shown to cause detrimental health effects. My advice is either not to build there or to ask the electric grid to relocate.

They offer great programming and the staff is always so friendly and helpful. If you are in the area, stop in to visit. If you live in Kalona and don't visit the library, you need to. The Eastern Avenue branch of Davenport's library is impressive for a number of reasons…read more The building is super green (environmentally, not color-wise). It earned a Silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification for the innovative ways it uses less energy and water as well as energy efficient lighting and building materials. It's spacious and open. even in the stacks you never feel cramped or oppressed by the tall shelves of books. The coffee shop/bookstore off the lobby is great for a quick snack (but we'll talk about that in its own review). The adult sections are great, but their children's section is awesome. Board books are organized by author, but shelved in low-slung shelving units so little eyes can see them and little hands can select them with ease. Tables are height appropriate for little ones and the large stuffed animals are a hit too. Finally, the children's programing is great as well. Weekly (and sometimes twice-weekly) story times for three different age groups (babies, toddlers, and preschool) as well as many programs for school-aged kids make the library a fun and interesting place for kids to visit and a partner with parents who want to instill a love of books and reading in their children.
