I find this newspaper sorely lacking in customer service. My online subscription was cancelled after I renewed the E edition. The numbers given for customer service are not working. Not sure it is worth the "haggle" talking to someone in another country whom you cannot understand and doesn't know how to solve a problem. read more

Cancelled my subscription online--or thought I did. (I live in Massachusetts now and do not receive the paper either by email or paper copy.) Nevertheless, they kept charging me. I kept calling and--after about a half hour of a very frustrating phone tree would get routed to some guy in the Philippines who couldn't confirm a cancellation, couldn't refund my money, and apparently wasn't allowed to say anything except "I'm very sorry." So I called the owners, Lee Enterprises, in Iowa. They tell you to call 888 299-4711 and leave a message. When you do, the line says "mailbox is full and cannot take any messages." And so it goes. Went online to see a Reddit forum saying they were hacked and did not have any access to their own data based, but that was supposedly resolved seven monthgs BEFORE my issue. Online see dozens of people cancelling because of subscription problems (which means there are probably hundreds). No attempt at resolution from Daily Progress or from Lee. Finally, after calling my bank to dispute the transaction and then had my card number changed. read more

I happily subscribed to the daily progress when I moved to Charlottesville. When I moved away I called to cancel my subscription, and was told it was. Easy peasey. This was a lie. It was never cancelled. Over a year and 3 calls later I'm still getting bills. NEVER, EVER, subscribe to this publication unless you are a fan of being lied to and being unable to cancel a subscription. read more

I have a file folder filled with details of non deliveries including deliveries mad a week after the actual delivery day. Sometimes we have gotten 2 or 4 papers at a time that were over a week and a half old. Each callk with dates and details fiven to rep. I was told a complaint would be forwarded to the Dist. Cir. Mgr., one rep could find no such record in my recorded call. It is all a lie and a scam. They are functioning on my money and Iam told to read the paper online. Do not tell me that this is a paper that contains balanced news. local or bits of National. It has become a rag devoted to Liberal propaganda. I am continuing the subscription in the hope that I will find out if a class action suit can be brought against this paper. If so, I will take my time and energy to rally others to join me. At least my time and efforts will bear some sort of fruit, dealing with this paper directly certainly is of no help. It is disgusting and frankly if I could prove fraud, I would pounce like a Lion. There is no way to grade for a zero but perhaps this will be of help. Somehow this review block states I am from MD...not so, I did not put that there, I am from central VA. read more

After putting up with years of erratic delivery, the paper informed us that they are going to publish a print edition on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday - only. The papers will be delivered via the Postal Service. This action caused us to attempt to cancel our subscription. After to talking with a "customer service representative" for 20 minutes, I was finally able to cancel. The representative used ever tactic under the Sun to prevent me from cancelling. After demanding that he stop offering me discounts, he gave in and cancelled. This is an unethical company and I will never do business with them again. read more

Do not subscribe! The paper have barely any interesting information in it and if you are looking for savings in the Sunday or Wednesday paper . . . well good luck getting it delivered reliably. I thought that perhaps my issue with only receiving half of my newspapers was that the delivery person was forgetting or my neighbors were taking it so I called to complain. If anything that made matters worse and the customer service seemed like they didn't care about my complaint. Not only did they not fulfill their promises to re-deliver the missing papers, I started to have EVEN less papers delivered. So I had them change the address and deliver it to my wife's work. Nope, still didn't get it. Changed it on Monday and didn't get Tuesday or Wednesday paper. Save yourself the time and trouble of calling about the paper every week for missing papers and just either pick it up in the store or better yet just use other sources for news and deals. read more

Daily Progress is a typical small town newspaper. It is the only way to get a good overview of what is happening in the Community with respect to public issues like politics, roads, schools, development etc. I think they could do a better job of pulling items from other Media General papers; and their online version is terrible. They have some good young reporters but they often move on to bigger jobs before they really get to know the Community. read more

I honestly would give this business no stars except for the fact that you actually get to talk to a real person rather quickly! DO NOT subscribe to this newspaper...I purchased a subscription back in April and spend a week on the phone with them asking when I was supposed to receive my papers, only to hear that I should have been receiving it these past few weeks. Mind you several of my neighbors get their papers but not me...I do not live in the middle of nowhere and apparently I have a seasoned carrier, so where the heck was my paper? Every time I called the promised me it would be there the next day...guaranteed but guess what...I called back and said it wasn't here. After several attempt to get this paper I wanted my money back. I finally got my money back on 5/31/16 (took long enough) only to see it wasn't the full amount I paid. I just got off the phone with them and was told because I requested a refund they charged me $5.00. Really, they charged me $5 for something they never gave me and quite frankly couldn't even effectively arrange for me to receive. I was told I could only get that $5 back if I was deceased....somehow I don't think I would need $5.00 if that was the case! read more

Don't subscribe! Their delivery to rural areas is terrible! My paper arrives @ 9:00 on Sunday, if at all and my neighbors get the daily paper @ 8:00. So much for their advertised 6: 30 guarantee! read more

Terrible,terrible and they rip you off. I had been a steady customer of the weekend paper delivery with no problems other than the more than occasional late or missing paper which I overlooked. Recently my subscription ran out so I received a bill in the mail stating the amount that was needed to renew. I went online, clicked to renew as an existing customer and paid the exact amount that matched on the 2 copies of bills I received from Daily Progress in the mail plus tip for my carrier. I didn't think much about it until 2 weeks passed and I had not received a paper. Called customer service and was told that the amount I paid went toward a "past due amount" owed and for premium package which included a "magazine". No communication on this whatsoever. Nothing on the bills received indicated I owed a past due amount OR signed up for a magazine nor did my bill reflect anything other than the subscription for the Sunday paper delivery. The rep couldn't help me, argued with me and basically offered NOTHING. NO HELP, NO EXPLANATION AND I HAVE NO PAPER DELIVERY. THEY TOOK MY MONEY AND CALLED IT PAST DUE. COULD NOT BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH. DON'T SUBSCRIBE AND i'M TAKING MY NEIGHBORS WITH ME! Having worked for a newspaper in another state there is nothing that makes this experience ok. read more
