Frank traveled from Memphis to "The Crossroads" in Clarksdale, Mississippi. For fans of the Blues this is the legendary intersection of Highways 61 and 49 where blues musician Robert Johnson reputedly sold his soul to the Devil for musical mastery. Hell maybe even Keith Richards sold his soul as well but can't confirm. When you arrive it's marked by a monument of three HUGE blue guitars and sign. Forest Gump say's it is a major blues tourism site. OK, for some history or background the legend goes according to folklore, Robert Johnson, a young bluesman, met a stranger at this spot who took his guitar, tuned it, and returned it, enabling him to play with supernatural skill. Man the devil is real cause it worked ! Now after you sold your soul to Beelzebub stop over to ABE'S BBQ for some " Q "and soul food.. It was worth the journey to see Crossroad and grab a bite... I would give them a 0 if possible. The male clerk was Loud, rude and disrespectful. When I asked for a refund, he resorted to vulgar name calling. I would not recommend this to anyone. The food is mediocre read more

The Crossroads is alleged to be where Robert Johnson met with the Devil and sold his soul in order to play the blues like he did. It is an interesting stop and would be rather unassuming without the sign. I love coming across these little tidbits of Americana and they definitely make my trips much more interesting and make my trip more delightful. If you are in the area, I would recommend coming here and seeing where an urban legend was born. Was Robert Johnson here and, if so, did he broker a deal with the Devil under a moon? I just found this a cool place to visit. read more

For some reason, I thought this would be taller? We stopped at the intersection before I saw it. You should definitely google the legend that inspired this monument to appreciate it more. It's located right in the middle of the street, so it's not easy to get a good picture without cars in it. The marker is no longer at the intersection of 61 and 49 but in town. I imagine the highway has moved to now bypass the town. Put Abe's BBQ into your phone and the directions will take you right to it, the BBQ restaurant is located directly across from the crossroad. read more

Anticlimactic. I drove over 70 miles to see this, and ended up driving right past it the first time because it's so unnoticeable. I guess it's cool to stand in the legendary spot (or close to it) that Robert Johnson made his deal with the devil, but I really expected more. A small souvenir shop... a historical marker... a sign telling the story? Nope. Just a small sign with guitars and highway markers. If you are in the immediate area, it's definitely worth a look. But if you need to travel any distance to get here, I'd say don't bother. *Tip* Use the address for Abe's BBQ to get here. The crossroads is right in front of Abe's. If you use the directions on Yelp, you'll end up frustrated and standing at a highway interchange in the middle of fields. read more

If your a blues fan or play guitar then you have heard the stories about Robert Johnson, not much to do here you would think they would have a small store or museum but nothing but BBQ spot and churches chicken, to tell you truth I think the real crossroads are in Tunica somewhere. read more

Of course no one knows if this is the exact Robert Johnson crossroads of if there even really is a crossroads. Regardless, it is the one with the landmark sign in the middle. It is great for a photo op and a fun place to pass by when you make your way around town. There is not much to do here except pass by and possibly think about selling your soul for some talent. read more

If you call yourself a fan of the Blues or of Robert Johnson, then you have to make a stop here if you find yourself anywhere in the Mississippi Delta. Sure, it's in the middle of an intersection and it does not provide for the full effect of "the crossroads", but its a wonderful tribute to a wonderful musician. read more

A mere stones throw from the Delta Blues Museum. A must see. For the most avid blues fans. Not far from the Ground Zero Blues Club, the closest thing one will find to a realistic juke joint. A wonderful experience. read more

Interesting spot to stop and take a pic, as Andy S says, there isn't much else there but if you like BBQ, Abe's is awesome! Park in Abe's parking lot, eat some excellent Mississippi BBQ and snap a shot of the Crossroads. read more
