The tenants are professional scammers!!! Evicted from their last apartment and dragged their last Landlord through court and didn't pay rent for FIVE YEARS!! The day they they where to be EVICTED they moved into our house, now we are fighting to get them out!!!! Eight months later and they owe $24,000 dollars in rent!!! I had an absolutely horrible experience with an agent from the Corcoran Group. I was lied to about my apartment they listed it as a one bedroom while it's actually a studio with a shared space. This is a classic example of a company worrying about money over customer satisfaction. Especially when dealing with someone's home I could not have been more disappointed. This company scams unsuspecting out of towners. They charged my family two brokerage firms, over $7200. We signed a lease sight unseen for our college student , they forgot to mention the mold in the unit, the daily drug use and loitering on the stoop and the the fact that the unit had not been rented in years due to its conditions. Also, there was a memorial for someone who had been recently shot. We declined when we arrived and chose another unit the same day literally a block away. They still charged for two units. I am seeking legal action with an attorney to get restitution and a possible class action for their predatory and dishonest practices. read more

I have tried to rent apartments under Johnny Lal's brokerage 3 times over the past 6 years and he has been nothing but ride, dismissive and lacking in knowledge on the apartments. He responds late and lacking relevant information. When I tried to schedule an appointment to view with him this go round because I stated I wouldnt be able to see the apartment TODAY he responded back "Maybe"... Avoid at all costs, not worth the headache to do the work of a broker yourself and still have to pay this guy a 15% fee. read more

I had the fortune of working with Troy Gaskin who showed us two units. after reaching out via phone, he got back to me within an hour and told me "I'm not a salesman, but I'm the guy who makes things happen." He wasn't lying. Every step of the way Troy was transparent, direct, and made sure my partner and I were in the loop. He had answers to all of our questions and even connected us with the landlord via email once we were approved so we could hear it directly from him. My experience with the (in)famous Jeff aligns more with SM than Jon or Ha. We came in to Corcoran around four weeks before we planned on seriously starting to look, just because we wanted to get the scoop on the area, fill out the forms in advance, and hopefully get a good relationship with a broker. Jeff met us, took our forms, seemed perfectly nice, especially after we gave him a decent price range. I kind of thought he would send us a follow-up email at some point, but it didn't bother me when we didn't hear anything more. Fast forward three-four weeks, I email Jeff and re-introduce myself, say we'd like to start looking at places now, what does he have. Get a one-line email back saying "what are your interests, give me a call now." Call him, no answer, so I leave a message with my name and saying he should have all our information from the forms but here's the general idea, let us know what he might have available. Never responds. I call again two days later, no answer, leave a message. Never responds. I see a listing from Corcoran online and email him to ask about it. He responds with an email saying he would get back to me. No further response. This is not exactly busy season, and we are not naive college students asking for a three bedroom for $500. There's no excuse to be non-communicative for weeks in a service industry like brokering. If you're busy or going away, let another broker in your office respond to us. I mean, the least you could do is respond to emails with basic information like, oh, I don't know, apartment listings. Highly unprofessional. Happy to deal with Citihabitats or any of the other companies across the street (literally). read more

My roommate and I worked with Elizabeth Friedman who is a broker with Corcoran. In classic form, we paid her more than a month's rent for opening the door to the apartment. If that had been the worst of it, I wouldn't be writing a review. When we moved out of our apartment in August, we expected to quickly receive our security deposit back. We followed up multiple times via email and text, only to have Elizabeth delay for months. We finally received a check with a number of crazy deductions. A few of them are listed below: -- $100 for a missing set of keys... but we had returned both sets -- $500 for paint... even though we had never re-painted the apartment and there was zero damage to the walls -- $60 for a missing smoke detector... why would we steal our smoke detector? -- $500 condo fine for illegal move on Sunday... but we both hired movers and moved on weekdays If you ever have the occasion to work with Corcoran or Elizabeth, don't forget that you're not done with them when you sign your lease. We're honestly considering taking them to small claims court because this is so ridiculous. read more

I worked with Michael Sargent, who showed me a one bedroom apartment. He was kind, courteous, professional and quick to respond to calls/emails. Before showing me the apartment, I signed a few forms such as an Anti-Discrimination Notice and COVID-19 notice -- which I appreciated and thought was very professional as 1) a black woman who's more inclined to face housing discrimination, and 2) someone who wanted to maintain all safety precautions during the pandemic. During the showing, I didn't feel rushed and he was happy to answer any questions that I had. I am very much happy with my experience with Michael and would recommend him to others. read more

I was scheduled to see an apartment today at 1:45. The broker, Jeff, stood me up. I found his cell number in an email and sent him at text at 1:50 to see what the deal was. He texted back at 1:55 saying that he was stuck at another appointment, and that he just found out the apartment had already been rented. It's totally not his fault that the apartment got taken off the market while he was at another appointment. And the way I see it, here's what I could have done differently to have avoided this situation: I should've given him my cell number when I booked the appointment yesterday and texted him an hour before to confirm. Lesson learned. Here's what he could have done differently to have gotten 5 stars instead of 1: He could have anticipated that the apartment would go quickly (he's a broker after all, and I'm sure he runs into this situation all the time) and asked for my number when we made the appointment in the event that he needed to reach me quickly to cancel. When he was running late, he should've emailed me to let me know. And when he suddenly discovered the apartment had already been rented, he should have called, not texted, and discussed other available listings in the area. To me, that's the different between a 1-star broker and a 5-star broker. So Jeff, if you're reading this: 1. Thanks for offering to show me an apartment on a beautiful Saturday afternoon-- it's gotta suck sometimes to have to work on weekends, especially in the summertime; 2. Good luck with that other appointment you got stuck at, I sincerely hope they rent it and you get your commission; 3. Try to understand where I'm coming from here, and in the future, take better steps to avoid reviews like this. read more

I needed to find a new one-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn Heights rather quickly, and Jeff Gallo at Corcoran Group saved the day. I emailed him about a listing on their website; he responded quickly and showed me a phenomenal apartment the next day. The apartment was perfect for me, but was slightly out of my price range. Mr. Gallo worked with the owner and got the rent lowered. He even knocked a bit off the realtor's fee as well, as it was a mid-month lease. His willingness to work with me in this way was incredibly helpful, especially with the costs of moving looming. On a professional level, he is friendly and knowledgeable. He ably guided me every step of the way, from the first showing through the approval process, through the walk-through with the building's super to the moment the keys were in my hands. He worked with the super to fix some small issues with the apartment, which were, for the most part, taken care of before I moved in. He is quite responsive to emails, answered all my questions and provided me with phone numbers so I could transfer my utilities, cable, etc. to my new residence. I couldn't have asked for a better apartment, and Jeff is to thank. I recommend Jeff Gallo highly and would certainly get in touch with him again, should the need arise, though I hope it doesn't, as I love my new apartment! read more

Jeff Gallo rents and sells. He is kind, sincere and honest to the bone. This city will eat you alive and Jeff is a breath of fresh air. He is personable, friendly, he will answer all of your questions and he is not a blowhard. He has been in NYC real estate for eons and he knows the markets. There are hard sellers and soft sellers. Jeff Gallo could never be a used car salesman. His approach is a bit softer but don't let that cloud your judgement.
