My family and I came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. We made reservations for 1:00 p.m., which was good since it was pretty busy. We each received a pretty substantial piece of bread and butter. We also ordered an appetizer from the special's menu, which was grilled skewered shrimp. We really liked them. I ordered the Mahi-mahi cayo hueso. The fish itself was a bit dry and needed some salt. It was served with Spanish rice and plantains, which were both delicious. The Columbia restaurant is a large place, with a fun, authentic Spanish ambiance. They have been there over 100 years so we felt it seemed promising. It was also very crowded and we decided to wait for a table. Overall, food was pretty good, but service was awful, which is why I am only giving two stars. Service: We're told 30 minutes for a table and waited 40. We were seated at our table for at least 10 minutes before our server came over. She apologized and said she wasn't told that we were her table. That's fine. She took our drink order and we ordered one tapa at the same time. We were seated 30 minutes and all we had at our table wad one glass of iced tea. The sangria took ages and we never saw our server to be able to order anything else or ask a question. She was nowhere in sight. It appeared that the tables around us that she was serving were also experiencing the same thing with people looking aggravated, looking at their watches, looking around for her, etc. We almost walked out after being seated for 40 minutes when she came with the sangria and our tapa plate. We ordered a few more tapas at this time and they came out in a reasonable amount of time, but we saw multiple parties around us that were seated after us and leaving before us (with other servers). we had our toddler son with us who was hangry, so it was extra stressful having this terribly slow service. We thought about ordering something else, and my husband said if I was still hungry, we should just grab pizza at that point. The absolute kicker was that I finally went to speak to the manager and he was a bit dismissive as well. He seemed frustrated that I didn't know the server's name and asked where we were seated. I only got to tell him two things before being cut off with "consider this handled." We didn't receive any gesture of apology on our bill or by our waitress. If anything, she seemed more pissed with us now since he must have talked to her. It was greatly unfortunate because the food that we did try was pretty good, but the service completely soured our experience and we would not recommend to anyone visiting. Food: we ordered empanadas, black bean cakes, mixed skewers, stuffed peppers, and fried calamari. I enjoyed the empanadas and the black bean cakes. The stuffed peppers were a bit too rich for me, as I felt the manchengo cheese was overpowering. The calamari was a large plate and lightly battered and fried. The chorizo on the skewers was tasty and the grilled chicken was tender and not overdone. Drinks: My husband got the red sangria and said it was very wine heavy. He wasn't a fan. read more

This is one of my all time favorite restaurants ever. They're a Cuban family owned restaurant that originated in Ybor City and have expanded throughout Florida. This St Augustine location happens to be one of my go to's. Let's start with the first thing on the menu-table side mojitos or sangria (white or red versions offered.) on this particular day we ordered the white wine sangria. It was made fresh next to our table with an epic presentation. Then we get their freshly made all day Cuban bread and butter. Each person gets their own bread and butter!! Now, depending on your mood literally anything on this menu is going to be delicious! The service is impressive and their ambiance is legendary! Don't forget to stop by their gift shop and get some of their home made sangria packets to up your Sangria game at home next time you crave it! Maybe even get one of their infamous pitchers to made it in too. Seriously their food is to die for. Their Columbia 1905 salad is amazing and their dressing is available for purchase too. If you want Tapas look no further they have some of the best. We love their Pompano dish. In the mood for a Cuban sandwich?! Well you can't eat at a Cuban restaurant without trying to once so that means you have to come back. Their chicken and rice is so delectable. All in all, this is an experience. I recommend getting there earlier in the evening so you don't have to wait. I'm not sure but I don't think they accept reservations. They have an awesome lunch menu as well. Wow, this was the single worst experience I've ever had at any restaurant, anywhere. To begin, I have guests from out of town that I'm entertaining for the week and made my reservation a week in advance because my guests were excited to eat here. I've been to this restaurant 4 times before and I was happy to make this our main dinner for the visit since I've always had wonderful experiences here, a year ago being my most recent. WOW, let me just say we are now at the to go pizza restaurant down the street and much happier than we were in the 2 hours we sat at the Columbia waiting for any semblance of food that wasn't bread. We sat down at 8:30 which is 15 minutes past our reservation which was totally fine, sat in the room I requested at a large table and very happy about that. Our server came up to us and immediately left without taking any drink orders and she would continue the rest of the night to visit us half heartedly and then leave pretending she needed answers to questions or to get something but we'd see her attending to other tables. We mentioned about an hour into sitting at our table with no food that we were very unhappy and she showed no care or concern and then left a dirty tray on our table. We placed our food orders about an hour and a half after our actual reservation and an hour after sitting down. At this point we decided that we probably wouldn't even be eating within 2 hours of our reservation and we had enough and decided to get up and pay our check for the 3 drinks we were served and 3 rolls EACH of bread we had been giving to quell our very normal impatience. We continued to the front desk where the hostesses were soooo sweet and kind and they directed us to the manager who was dressed more sloppy than any busboy I've seen at the worst restaurant. He challenged our complaint and then continued to hand us a 70 dollar check for I don't even know what; my husband calmly asked if this is how they run their business, because at this point it was truly unbelievable what was happening and I think the manager realized that as well. We walked out and got pizza and I'm so completely soured by this experience I'm not even eating my pizza but writing this review instead. There was another table in our section to walk out at the same time that's truly how bad the service was tonight. As a local I will not be going back to this restaurant Ever not in Tampa, not in st Augustine and I'll make sure anyone I know who is a local doesn't visit it as well. Our server was Shawn and his service was outstanding. He brought warm Cuban bread for each of us. I started with the small 1905 salad and it was honestly the best salad I've ever had. A twenty minute wait - even with reservations, but we were a party of 12.....so there's that. They have several dining rooms that can accommodate many people. It's all very open and can get quite loud. I ordered "The Salteado". According to their menu's description, This dish was inspired by the Chinese who lived in Cuba in the 19th century, a very hot skillet with extra-virgin olive oil is used to sauté sliced Spanish onions, green peppers, fresh garlic, mushrooms, diced potatoes, chorizo and red wine. It's served with yellow rice. Your choice of chicken, tenderloin tips, or shrimp. I chose shrimp. It was very good. Their red sangria is very good, I would recommend you try it if you like sangria and for dessert their Flan is excellent as is their Guava Turnover "Carmita" (It's a tropical sweet guava and melted sweet cream cheese baked in a soft crispy pastry, dusted with sugar granules, and drizzled with vanilla bean sauce.) It's a WOW dessert! A 2.5 hour dining experience which should have only been 1.5 hours maximum (IMHO). Highly recommend the champagne sangria, it's made tableside, as is the phenomenal 1905 salad. In the future I will probably stop there as the ribeye was pretty good but I couldn't eat but half of it being full of 1905 and sangria. It even has a small parking lot. I love getting to visit Columbia downtown every now and then! It is so nice that they have their own complementary parking lot right behind the restaurant for 2 hours, and it is very reasonable if you need to stay parked longer. The wait staff are always kind and attentive. I've never had bad food there. The table side salad is my favorite! It can get kind of loud, so if you have sensitivities to sound or a child who may, I recommend bringing headphones or noise cancelling AirPods. read more

As you enter this Old World Charm restaurant built in 1905, you become fascinated with the beautiful Latin decor. Not just one level but three levels of dining area plus outdoor seating. The building sits in a charming narrow alleyway as in the olden days with a water fountain. This is the original Columbia restaurant. There are other locations in Florida. You see tourists walking thru the alley sightseeing and trolleys rolling by as you eat outside with cheers from more tourists. You feel the good energy from everyone. A perfect location. Dress code is fashion casual as it is a classy place. Parking is available in a private parking lot next to Columbia. We had reservations there on Christmas Day and it was perfect. I ordered my favorite dish, Cannelloni Langosta-din. It was even better than last time if that's possible. Big, tender chunks of lobster claw meat in their delicious sauce. The best!! My daughter had the Stuffed Shrimp JG-din, which also was tasty but came in second to the Langosta. We also ordered the Cava Sangria Pitcher to wash it all down with. It was so refreshing and good. We shared a slice of Key Lime pie at the end of our Christmas Day celebration. Our server, Ernesto, was professional, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu book. We've been to most of the Columbia Restaurants and decided that we needed to stop by this one as we happened to be driving by after finding out that our original destination (a Diners Drive-Ins and Dives place in Jacksonville) only took reservations and they would not make accommodations for us even after explaining we were on vacation and our TripleD adventures. Anyway, the service and food were as excellent as any other Columbia Restaurants we'd been to. The Ropa was excellent and a good portion size as well. The Pollo Manchego was fantastic. This was our first time dining at the Columbia Restaurant, having received several recommendations for it. Our waiter, Sean, was amazing and was able to provide recommendations based on our dietary needs and preferences. We ordered a glass of Sangria and the Gem of the Ocean cocktail. Both were great. We started with the chopped tomato salad, which was large enough for two to three people. It was flavorful, and the tomatoes were fresh and ripe. For our meals, we got the Eggplant Riojana, which was large enough for several people to share. It was excellent. We also ordered the Palomilla Steak plate, which was terrific and came with a large serving. The restaurant itself is pretty large, and you feel as though you are in Spain. This restaurant is delicious. We've never had a bad meal here. If you are in the area, get a reservation! They are always busy, and there is always a wait. It's not bad if you plan ahead--and get there within 15 minutes of your time or they will release your reservation. They are pretty severe on that point, so plan ahead with your parking to be there on time. Columbia features a lot of delicious food options. On our most recent visit, my husband chose the bone-in ribeye. I had the paella, which is one of their specialties but does take ~25 minutes for cooking. It is insanely good. We've had calamari, stuffed peppers and a variety of seafood options. All of it has been so good! And always leftovers for a second meal, which I enjoy just as much as the first time. We've enjoyed every meal at Columbia over the years. The restaurant is beautiful with multiple floors and a variety of indoor seating options. They tend to be somewhat pricey for the specialty options but not offensively expensive (more $$ than $$$). However, the portions are plentiful, and servers are always friendly and willing to help you navigate the menu. Let them know it's a birthday or anniversary for some flan! We had a party of 9 with a reservation and checked in, they have seats upstairs and down, apparently they were going to seat us up two flights of stairs...we had one of our ladies with mobility issues so that would not work..they told me that we did not specify we wanted to be seated downstairs at time of reservation, well if you never have been here how would you know it is up and down? Note to staff, when taking reservations ask if there are any mobility issues before assuming everyone can walk two flights of stairs...ask....will make things easier for your guests when they arrive! They give you your own big piece of Cuban bread and butter, loved that! My friend started with the black bean Cuban soup, which is essentially black beans with chopped onion. We had the crab cakes which comes with two large ones, these were pretty good. We had the 1905 salad which they toss table side. It had ham, cheese, tomato, olives and cheese. We decided to try the restaurant on our 3rd Night of lights visit. We have been coming to st. Agustine for the past three years always for only two nights and we learned that its better to have a reservation for the restaurant, so we did this time around. Service was good, the server was very attentive and nice. My wife and i already had a plan before hand to what to order and he was very courteous about it. You can tell the restaurantis very busy, you will see the amount of people in the waiting lobby especially on tables of 5 and more, and how fast it would clear it out and another wave of people would come in. So make your resy in advance is my advice, especially during the holidays. Food was delicious. It arrived hot, it was flavorful, it felt good to eat it, and it was worth the wait. We had the Stuffed Piquillo peppers which were mind blowingly good, the sauce is the highlight. The garbanzo soup, it was very delicious, hefty, and lots beans and meat in it. The complimentary cuban bread and butter its a great way to start, but save it if you are ordering the soups or the stuffed peppers its a must to have with, We ordered the Paella Valenciana, w/ the shrimps on the side since i am allergic. We asked the server first as to what broth they were using and he was informative and made sure it came on the side. Two red wine sangrias, very refreshing and cold. The paella was good portion for two, even three..It was delish, seafood not overcooked, nice chunks of meat in it and rice not mushy. It was missing some of the socarrat on the bottom, but maybe it is not part of the style the do it as, and that is fine. Dessert was a crema catalana which is very similar to a creme brulee. It was sweet, toasty, the crunchy bits of caramel were a added texture to it, but i will say it was perhaps not fully set. But it was still good and a nice cap to everything. They make the salad fresh at the table. This time we ordered a pitcher of Mojitos for the table, which was also prepared table side. That was a fun and unexpected perk! I recommend getting there early to find parking. They have a parking lot attached to the backside of the restaurant, but you may need to park elsewhere in downtown St. Augustine, if it is filled. I had the Ropa Viejo and crab cakes. The vegetarian paella was so flavorful with a huge portion!! Even sharing couldn't finish. We did have to wait awhile for refills. Everything was perfect again on a busy Father's Day 2025. We had a 1:30 reservation, and as usual the parking attendant worked his magic. It was a short walk to the receptionist, and we were seated in no time. Our waiter was super, and this time we met the manager of this wonderful establishment.
