I have got to say Sophie's have gone down hill in the last 5 years the quality is just not there…read moreanymore witch is a shame as I used to look forward to my Saturday afternoon treat. I have used Sophie's all my life and up until resantly wouldn't of dreamed of going anywhere else but I now find myself ordering a pizza or looking for a different chippy there are a few around but all lacking good food I have found 2 that I use now dads lane and the cod pot both of these shops remind me of why I used to love Sophie's clean friendly well staffed and fantastic quality now I have the problem of which of those 2 I am going to use I hope Sophie's goes back to what it was before they became an empire as they were 100% better then

In the Cotteridge area there are three, THREE Sophie's Choice. Each within a ten-metre distance…read morewhich is a bit excessive don't you think? Anyhow, if you're in the Cotteridge area either living locally or just passing through you have three of the same fish and chips bar you can pop into to receive the same or perhaps a slightly amended fish and chips menu. Yes, I think that their quality and standards of food is good and at an inexpensive price too. Within these Sophie's Choice's you can either dine in or takeaway. Dining in isn't too bad but they don't supply toilet facilities which hopefully will change. So I guess I would say check out these various Sophie's Choice's, but only on the condition that you don't need the toilet beforehand. It's good to know that Cotteridge won't be short of Fish and Chips though!

One of the best fish and chip shops in Kings Norton is Tony's on The Fold for two reasons - because…read morethe food is delicious and because they have some cracking special offers so it's cheaper to feed our family of five than any other chippy in the area. The staff behind the counter are great, really helpful and accommodating. They are always clean and the women have their hair tied back tidily so there is never any risk of hairs in your food - yuck! The food is always excellent and there's a brilliant choice. Of course, it's chips with everything - it's a chippy, what do you expect? I find the chips always taste really fresh and I never get the impression that they have been warmed up in the afternoon after the lunchtime rush. My favourite meal here is the standard fish and chips with curry sauce which is always delicious. This is on special offer at around £1.75 and the portion sizes are large so if I'm not feeling hungry then I can easily split my portion with my daughter thereby saving even more money. Another thing I like about this chippy is the fact that the chicken is always cooked beautifully, other chippys in the area serve the chicken still a bit pink in the middle but here it's moist and perfectly cooked. We all enjoy eating from Tony's and have never once had cause to complain about anything from here, I've been using it for years on and off and think it's great. One other thing worth mentioning is the curry sauce - it's out of this world! Tony must add a secret ingredient because it has a lovely nuttiness that isn't apparent in any other chippys I've eaten at. You can buy everything you expect from here from pies and pasties to kebabs and burgers. There are always lots of special offers on cards behind the counter and these change from one month to another, although luckily my favourites always seem to be on offer which is a nice break for my purse! There are plenty of soft drinks to choose from in cans and bottles so always something to quench my thirst after a hot salty bag of chips. When I visit here I usually spend around £8 and this feeds a bloke with a massive appetite, me with a much more modest one, two children with hollow legs and a baby who will eat anything that's put in front of her!

Every time you go to Cotteridge you notice another Sohpie's outlet. There are now three, and this…read moreis the one dedicated to pizzas. There is a small seating area outside, but you'll be sitting in British weather and on a traffic island next to the busy Pershore Road, so it's neither Rome nor romantic. That said, it's nice they've made an effort for their punters. Their pizza is pretty good, not amazing, but pretty good and comes at a reasonable price. It's entirely possible that the three Sophie's outlets currently dotted either side of the traffic island in Cotteridge are connected by a series of underground tunnels, and that those in charge are secretly colonising the hub of B30 by stealth, taking over the shop units from a subterranean operations base. At some point Cotteridge will be renamed Sophietown.

Sophie's Pizza is my local pizza place, and I have nothing but good things to say about it…read more The pizzas are always delivered within an hour, even at busy times. The restaurant itself isn't classy and I wouldn't go out of my way to go there, but if you find yourself in Cotteridge wanting pizza, it's decent enough. Like a lot of pizza delivery places, the menu lists pizzas for a ridiculous price, but offers 2-for-1, so you end up paying more like £10 than the listed £20 for a large pizza. My one criticism is that the online ordering system and website are atrocious - give them a call instead and you can't go wrong.

I used to go here back in the day when I was at sixth form across the road. Instead of sandwiches…read moreor school dinners we'd sometimes nip to the chippie to grab a scallop or if we felt more indulgent a mini fish and chips. Returning recently I thought the chips were as great as I'd remembered them but I've tasted better battered cod. It may very well be one of those things where the taste and smell attributed to fond memories can rarely be recaptured exactly as you remembered them. It wasn't very busy when I went and for my local chippies the queue can sometimes be out the door. It may not be the most attractive of chip shops from the outside but definitely a great place to pick up a cone of chips.

The fish and chips are fairly reasonably priced and always of a good quality. It's not quite to the standard of Dads Lane, but few are. It is easier to park outside this place, which might just swing it for you if you are in a hurry. This place is famous mostly for being a landmark, and it's fairly unique for Birmingham for a landmark that isn't a roundabout or a pub. Ask a Brummie for directions and you will be given a list of pubs and traffic islands that get you from A to B. Ask a Brummie for directions around the B14 & B30 postcodes and the Pineapple Fish Bar will almost certainly crop up. Bit of local trivia for you, there.
