From there you pass the pool table and the gaming machines into the bar area. Bar is manned by a rota of members some who are more competent than others but unless it is a private function, ie wedding, dance or party it is never too busy. Opening times have been curtailed recently due to lack of customers so it is not always open. There is a large dance floor and raised seating area that hides behind sliding doors when not in use. The bar area is well seated and cosy. Carpet bowls are popular during the winter months and various competitions are held in the hall

Originally a social club for RAF veterans, it picked up a hip audience through the occasional DJ night. The incongruity of the venue- working man's club, good range of beers at a cheap price, long bar space that doubled as a dance floor- added to the charm, and it quickly become a centre for the more off-centre event: I saw a Kate Bush tribute night here, surrounded by fans who had dressed up specially as Bush, or in a fancy dress interpretation of Bush's songs. It isn't one for a casual visit: most of the time, the veterans are using it, but anything that happens here in the way of clubs is worth a visit.

It was completed in 1926 and is found on the south side of the busy London Road between the Dick Institute and the Palace Theatre. The consecration of the new Masonic temple here took place on Saturday, 10th December, 1927. This is home to four lodges; the others who meet here are St Marnock number 109, St Andrew (126) and St Clements (202). I passed this today, as I do often, as it's on my way to the town but I knew almost nothing about it until I did some research!!

Boo ya!…read more On with the show I guess...Rolls Royce Club is like every social club in Glasgow, in that it offers good banter at premium rates. There's a well stocked bar with beers on tap, big dancing space, a wee stage for band nights, a separate room for banter nights, a good mix of people and a lively atmosphere. Entry last night was 1.50, the staff were friendly and it looked like a good place for throwing functions. Social clubs are a dying trend in Glasgow but they're an integral part of the culture, so long may this continue! The death of the famed Woody Social up near my gaff brought a tear to a glass eye, so it's nice that amiable, friendly places like the Rolls Royce Club still exist. Gies a bit of Neil Diamond over pumping tunes in the town any day of the week!
