This is my first time visiting the store. I was looking for a replacement key on an antique clock. As other reviewers had said Greg the owner really enjoys having a conversation. All I was looking for it was a Key. It took Greg 25 to 30 minutes to find the right key for my clock. I checked several other resources for Keys including eBay and Amazon and the average price of a key was about 15 dollars with some as low as 6 dollars. I asked him right out front how much a key would cost for my clock. He couldn't tell me because it depended on what type of key I wanted. After he found the right key he told me the key was free but his time would cost me $55 dollars. Needless to say I was very disappointed. I understand that the man has overhead and needs to make a living. But to completely ripped me off and charged me $55 dollars is completely ridiculous. I had three other clocks that I wanted him to take a look at and service. But how can you trust a guy that takes advantage of a first-time customer. There's no way in heck I can recommend referred this gentleman's business. Stay far away if you know what's good for you. read more

I bought my Seiko in to this guy. He let it sit on his shelf for about a Month. After not hearing from him I went in to pick my watch up. He told me he had ordered calendar parts for my watch and he had kept an eye on it for the past two weeks and it had been working fine. I was happy...for a moment until I looked at the calendar and saw it had the same fixed date that I had left him with to repair. Not only had he not repaired my watch but was going to charge me $77.70 for labor and repair. This guy talks a lot of watch jargon and from my opinion rips customers off. The Clock Specialist is a great place to go for clock repairs! I'll be honest, I searched Yelp! for reviews and came across this place. I'm happy I did! I took my boss' alarm clock in, and Greg provided me a free estimate so he could actually identify the problem. It took maybe a day for them to call me back and tell me what was wrong and how much it would cost to fix it. The price is super reasonable, compared to some other shops that may gouge you for the same work. Greg called as soon as the clock was ready, and I was able to pick it up. Great and fast customer service. I called-in around closing time to see how much it would take to fix 5 watches and the lovely lady on the phone said they would stay open longer if I needed them today. My husband rushed over and 5 watches were repaired quickly. The gentleman helping provided some knowledge on the batteries he uses-they get them from a supplier that gets freshly made batteries, which will last longer while being used. Greg is a clock expert who provides professional service at a reasonable price! He worked on my century-old Seth Thomas Gothic Arch mantle clock with Westminster chimes....replaced the pendulum (was a stack of taped-up quarters from the previous owner!) and winding key, cleaned up the inner workings of the clock, and made sure everything was working as it should. He took the "time" to explain clock care to a novice---how to wind, how to clean, how to transport, how to adjust, everything! A family heirloom - A Cuckoo Clock built in the 1920's that just isn't keeping time. Actually, isn't working at all any more. So, in the age of electronics and disposable everything, who is left that can help? The folks at The Clock Specialists in Burbank can help. I talked to Greg over the phone and like most business folks, "sure, bring it in....". So, with a pound of skepticism I went in with the family heirloom. Well, Greg knows his stuff. He dated the clock quickly, had the back off and was VERY HONEST about what he needed to do to understand the problem and give a proper estimate. Understand, I was sure I was bringing in a terminally dead clock. He needed time (no pun intended). I appreciate an honest business person who doesn't guess about what may be needed just to hook you. Fast forward - It took Greg about two weeks to dig into the complicated clock. I meet him again at his shop where he described what was required. Imagine a clock works that is almost 100 years old. It required new gears, bearings and over all service. Well, it took Greg about six weeks to complete the rebuild. No, not cheap but the quality of the work and scope of work was extraordinary. When I returned to pick up the clock Greg ran through all the parts that were replaced. Showed me the new parts, old parts and I must say, he beamed like a Doctor that just saved a life. This work was completed 9 months ago now. Wanted to wait to see how the clock performed. OUTSTANDING!!! This guy is great, a true artisan. Fixed my antique art deco Bakelite clock for $40. Purchased at a flea market for $20 (I was about to give up and use it as a decoration). A while you wait job and a charming place. I love these little Burbank shops manned by a real person who knows his stuff, often passed down for generations. I'm sure the 5 star reviews were given in all sincerity by people happy with Greg's work on their clocks. I wish with all my heart that was my experience because right now, my, still broken, family heirloom Clock is being held hostage for money, which I would have been more than happy to pay if it had actually been fixed. As it is I've paid $100. Greg said he cleaned it and it works 'outside' the case, but not when he puts the clock together. The first time he told me it was ready was 2 weeks ago. I went to pick it up and pay the remainder of my bill only to be told when I arrived it was still not working and that Greg had just been too busy to call me. In fact, when I mention he's had the clock for 2 months and still hadn't figured out what's wrong, he claims he's been overwhelmed with work. I can understand this to a point. But this overwhelming work load has been such a constant excuse as to why he just can't get to or figure out why my clock isn't working, I'm tired of hearing it. I told Greg if his work load was so overwhelming than WHY did he accept my clock saying he could work on it? Obviously, this hasn't been the case. His work load is his issue, not mine. If Greg felt he was too busy than all he had to do 2 months ago was tell me and decline to accept my clock. I'm going today to get it. I only hope he allows me to take it without charging the full price to fix it. Which he did not and evidently, can not. read more

I brought in a small clock for repair. The young man tried a "quick fix" to see if that would work and save me from purchasing an entire new mechanism. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable. He did not charge me for his time and effort! Alas, I had to bring it back and they replaced the mechanism with a new USA made product. I will be back when my watches need batteries. ** revised review: I was charged over $500 to fix a clock that I found out is available to buy for less than $100. I blame myself for trusting Greg to the point of paying way too much for very little craftsmanship. The estimate I was given was based on a lot of parts needing to be replaced and some that had to be manufactured since they "are no longer available". the end result was that a mechanism from a similar clock was used to replace the one in my clock. so naturally, I thought the repair cost would be less. Not the case. I am not satisfied with the cost of fixing my clock. Only 5 months later, the clock stopped keeping accurate time and started making loud noises. I took the clock back to Greg and he re-lubricated the mechanism - no charge. Still feel the charges to get my clock back to working were excessive, unhappy that the service on the clock lasted less than 6 months, only slightly satisfied that Greg re- lubricated the clock at no charge to get it back to working. we will see how long it runs...only time will tell!! read more
