The hotel is relatively cheap (if you book in advance) but can be more expensive if you have a last minute trip. The only bad thing I really noticed was the fact that you had to pay for the use of the internet. Breakfast is not included but at £5.25 for an all you can eat buffet, its not half bad! Overall I thought this was a great place to stay and great value for money!

I was reluctant to give my bag over for storage as we couldn't check in (due to a previous horrible experience at the Manchester Deansgate Hilton where my make up and jewellery bag got swiped) but the girl behind the desk was reassuring and friendly, asking questions and giving us good advise on the best way to get into town and where to shop/eat. Upon returning the new man behind the desk recognised my mum instantly and had our key cards ready before we'd even reached him. Impeccable service. (This man alone deserves 5 stars as he recognised us when we were leaving as well, which always makes you feel important. I didn't catch a name but he was French [doesn't help in a hotel where they hire a lot of French people] and had more charm than you could shake a stick at, but he was never seedy, a balance that charming people don't always quite get right. Anyway, I digress.) One of the lifts was out of service, which knocked off half a star, and the room was really cold at times, taking off the other half. The room itself was lovely a good size with a great bathroom, lots of space for us to unpack and spread out. As mentioned we couldn't quite get to grips with the air con/heating system so we were a touch iced at times; maybe we were being slow or maybe their system is too complicated, you decide. The lifts speak French which threw us off completely on our first trip but was fun to imitate on other times. The surrounding area felt safe, maybe as it was the gay area and when you're two women it's nice to know that noone around you is interested, and it was an inviting and comfortable place to go back to in between our day and evening activities. My most recent experience of this Travelodge though is with their conference rooms; I was booked on to a training course that was held here. My work friends and I went on in and made our way past the open doored kitchen (bizarre, I know), lounge and bar area, the toilets and a bunch of guest rooms. After commenting on how strange a location it was for a conference room we went in. The room was pretty spacious, with wheelchair access (ramped), big bright windows and white walls and we were provided with an OHP. Complimentary teas, coffees and biscuits were provided and overall it was a fairly decent place to go for a training session. I imagine the price for the room hire here was vastly less than some of the other conferencing centres dotted around Leeds and it was really easy to get to being in the city centre. However, you get what you pay for, and in the same way that the overnight stay here won't have you wowed, neither will the conference rooms. Simple, clean and cheap. That's it!

I felt at home.Breakfast at 8.30 was a wonderful experience in a spacious restaurant. I had a spoonful of each cereal and the milk was brought in a small jug. Personal service making me feel special. Toast was brought in on a plate and tea in a teapot. My breakfast was well cooked and on an oval plate.they asked if everything was ok, did I need anything else. I was even offered another pot of tea in case the other was cold. They took time to have a conversation when I said I used to buy ham salami and cheese from them. I Mentioned my favourite sweets too. I then went back to bed for half an hour. The other staff were as friendly as the owners. They allowed me to watch tv and charge my phone in the lounge though it was past checking out time. I'd always used The Merrion on grounds of convenience - it is dead central, very close to the main Shopping Area, the Nightlife, and the Financial District; it's handy, too, for Theatreland and other entertainments. The hotel will win no prizes for architecture or ambience, being a utilitarian tower block. But every time it wins on location, whilst providing decent creature comforts at sensible prices (book online at RatestoGo for the best deals). It is situated on the Inner City Loop Road, which means you can be ib the hotel less than 10 minutes after leaving the M-Way; it is right alongside a multi-storey carpark, joined to it by a 15-metre walkway - so no parking problems.

The conversation simply flows organically between the bar and the patrons because it is such a homely relaxed environment. Everyone who came in said 'Hello' to the rest of the room, so rare and harking back to a time when people really DID know your name- it reminds me so much of the village pubs I worked in as a teenager, a place where you might go even for just a half pint on the way home...not for the booze but to see a friendly face or two and soak up some much needed human interaction in what is an increasingly insular and lonely world for so many. Tracy was serving and had a very restricted menu due to it being the season and all that, the delivery was due the next day but she managed to rustle us up two roast beef dinners and the richest, most dense and biggest portion of steak and ale pie I have EVER seen. Having read the reviews I was brimming over with excitement to visit this little diamond. The food…read moresounded incredible, the building a treasure, and the staff a delight. As is sometimes the case, reading so many high reviews, your expectations can be raised beyond the achievable and so I was hoping for magic. We mightn't have found magic, but what we did find was a truly delightful pub in the midst of Hunslet. Let me start by attempting to paint the picture of just how gorgeous the architecture is. So bizarre is it to see such an amazing building in the midst of some rather droll redbrick housing estate, that it almost beggars belief. I found it fascinating - was Hunslet previously some kind of high end area of Leeds back in its day? How did this gem come about? Fortunately, the pub has kept various historical documents as to its origins, some of which are in a display cabinet detailing the story, a lot of which are used to decorate this fabulous structure. The pub is built in traditional fashion, with a long hallway as the entry, bar and tap room to the left, snugs and little nooks to the right. It reminds me of The Grove, both delightful anachronisms, and worth visiting to gaze upon. It's also now a Grade II* listed building. We were welcomed in, and I keenly asked about the, now Yelp-infamous, lunch. We were given a somewhat cryptic response - it wasn't a no, but it wasn't a yes. It wasn't really even a maybe! Apparently they'd a group booking so might not have been able to accommodate, so we ordered drinks, after hearing that is was possible potentially in an hour or so. Being now a Leeds Brewery owned spot, there's plenty of decent ale to keep you busy, whilst you have a gander and a natter. Another of our group bravely decided to ask about lunch after about half an hour, and the happy news was that they'd discovered some veg from their stores, so we could indeed dine that afternoon! I'm guessing, being so far out, that Sundays aren't always a busy affair - my advice might be to ring ahead and plan the visit, making sure they stock up before! After working out what the vegetarian in the party could eat (all the roast veg, and a veggie lasagne as the main part - random but suitable!) we ordered more drinks whilst we waited. Everyone was delighted that veggie gravy was also available. Soon enough, four stacked plates arrived before our eyes, and we tucked in. It's a proper home cooked vibe, so don't expect the likes of fine dining, but where it lacked in that area it made up for it in spades by being so damned hearty and cheap. I believe it was about six quid for a sizeable plate. The gravy, I thought, was delicious and the Yorkshire pud really tasty. I could have had several more! As much as there were quirks to the afternoon, the staff were all very lovely, and really helpful - especially since we mightn't have been fed at all that afternoon! There's nothing like a decent ale, a post-dinner game of random scrabble, a gorgeous pub, and an afternoon of laughter so for that I'm definitely a fan. I really want to come back and try the food again, especially as others have loved it so, so watch this space for an update. They provided a free room and PA system all we paid for was the meal and wine. The service was outstanding and the portions of superbly cooked food enough to satisfy any gargantuan appetite. Martin held control and in his own inimitable laid back style mastered the evening, truly amazing. The facilities at the Parkway gave our out of town guests the opportunity of using it as a base to visit family and/or the tourist attractions which they all took advantage of. A particular guest has back problems, the Parkway sorted out her bed and she had a wonderful stay. One can ask for nothing more.
