I don't understand the bad reviews--really, I don't. I'm writing this review from inside my room, and I have to say, the staff are extremely friendly. The room is small but cozy and perfect for a couple. The shared bathrooms are very clean and constantly maintained. This is the authentic NYC experience: either pay five times the price for the same type of room near Times Square, or spend around $100 here and take a $20 Uber to Times Square. Plus, you'll have extra money to enjoy dining out. This isn't just about getting value for your money--it's about smart choices. We booked The Central Park Hotel via Travelocity. We soon discovered this "hotel" wasn't really a hotel at all. It was more so an old brownstone renting out rooms. There is no elevator and we were placed on the third floor. This wouldn't be a problem if someone helped us with our bags, but no one did, or even offer to help. My grandma has a bone disease and I feared if she carried things and took the three flights there is a higher risk of her falling and breaking a bone. I told two different people there this information two times and no one cared. They said the "hotel" was advertised as not having an elevator (it was hidden in fine print on Travelocity). I tried telling them that isn't even the issue. The issue is no one was helping us. As soon as we got on the third floor, we were hit with the strong smell of marijuana, and I called to tell "the front desk" (a small table with a folding chair) and let them know that this just wasn't acceptable, especially since we have a non-smoking room. So they moved us even higher in the building, on the fourth floor, because nothing else was available. This room was even smaller. Neither rooms were as advertised. The entire house is old and echoes every single noise. The stairs don't creak, they moan, and it's a terrible sound. My poor grandmother got zero sleep. It also claimed to have a "continental breakfast" but it was just a bag with a bagel and capri sun... We checked out immediately the next morning and they refused to give us our money back. I talked to them in person and there was no sympathy for the issues we've encountered. Travelocity called them numerous times and they refused to work with us. I would have even settled for taking only half the original fee back but they refused find a middle ground. A REAL hotel would give good customer service and at least give back a partial refund. I considered calling lawyers but luckily Travelocity helped me with a partial refund (but to be clear this was NOT with any help from the hotel). This is not an acceptable way for a local business to treat customers. They should know that word of mouth can negatively impact their business and be willing to at least pretend to work with us. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to visit me or any of my writing friends who like to write in hotel rooms so I won't recommend it to you. read more

Really not sure why there are such bad reviews. You get what you pay for! This was inexpensive for Manhattan, especially being only a block from Central Park and the 110 St station. Very convenient! The instructions are very clear, you must contact someone to get the codes to get in. Like others said, it's more of an Inn or Air BnB type place, with a private room but shared bathrooms. They let us check in early and leave our bags so we could tour the city. Came back pretty late and it was not a problem. Very large room with a fireplace and a kitchen. The bathrooms are a bit small and on a different floor, but still nice. Again, you are paying at least half for this, don't be too picky. But overall, great location, clean, friendly service, and nice rooms. read more

This place only has shitty reviews. Only 1 star reviews. This place is not that bad. My experience here was incredibly complex. I'll give it 3 stars. Let me explain why. -1: This place should change their name. 'The Central Park North' is not informative. This is definitely not a hotel. It's more like an Inn. In fact, it could even be called a high-end hostel or a low-cost apartment complex. -1: There is *no lobby*. I had arrived earlier than anticipated. They couldn't accommodate an early check in request, neither could they offer a place to wait the time out. I had to go to a dunkin donuts to hangout. +1: I stayed in a 2 bed room. The room had a fully functional kitchen, complete with oven, basin, refrigerator, and microwave. The room was pretty spacious. +1: The fairly huge room cost about $120. Which was super cheap given that this is Manhattan. -1: However, the toilet and shower is shared for four rooms in a floor. +1: The location is pretty cool. It's just north of central park. There is an ice skating rink nearby. And very accessible to MTA. The pros and cons roughly cancel each other out. I found the place just about average. read more

I booked a last minute room very late at night for someone else who needed an emergency place to stay in New York as they had been locked out of their house. I booked through Hotels.com and everything seemed fine until the person that I booked the room for arrived and the door to enter was locked. There was no front desk and ultimately the person I booked the room for ended up leaving and booking a place somewhere else. I even tried calling the number for the hotel several times but no one responded. They claim that they send check-in instructions but those instructions showed up almost 24 hours after my friend tried to access the building. Since my reservation was never used, I tried to talk to Hotels.com about getting a refund. They contacted this hotel and were promptly told that a refund couldn't be processed. I then tried calling this place to politely ask them for a refund. The staffer who answered the phone and is apparently a manager was curt and rude to me as she told me that she would not process a refund despite the fact that we never even got into the hotel to use the room. Stay far away from this place, they have no idea what the concept of customer service even is. read more

Clean room. Small but adequate. Shared bathroom is never the best option but the price was decent. They had me staying in the top (4th) floor which meant a lot of walking and hauling bags (no elevator). Friendly staff. Location is around the corner from a subway which I used to travel around the. It's, everyday. All in all a very pleasant stay. read more

This is not a hotel. Do not stay here. I booked through Expedia, and after realizing what this situation was, I tried to cancel. The, "hotel" has a no refund policy, and will not, under any circumstances refund you. Expedia would not refund me. Looks like others have the same experience. I never stayed there and tried to cancel a month in advance. They kept my money. I've never seen a, "hotel" act in this manner. I feel like I was mislead into what I was purchasing. I'll be giving a bad review with Expedia was well. This is not the place you want to do business with. I plan on suing for false advertisement for a full refund. read more

I have emailed them and called them. They won't answer me and charged me full price for a reservation I cancelled under hotels.com and should have only been charged half for. Awful, emails from multiple people not answers, nobody ever picks up the phone and they robbed me of 225 dollars when I didn't even stay there. read more

Looking through hotels on my phone the Expedia page froze and accidentally booked this hotel which "Sucks" Noone answers the phone, can't find any parking, and the location in hidden. I was not able to find this location and after calling them multiple times they called me back asking "if I'm still checking in" Now I have almost $250 charge on my account do to this very unorganized rental room. It has no right to be called a hotel room because the area looked more like a neighborhood and not safe. read more

This is not a HOTEL. They are more like an airbnb that rent you a room. No lobby, the lady sits in front of the front door. They wouldn't allow us to check in early which is not too bad because we only had to wait 20 minutes. They did not advertise that the bathrooms were shared among everyone on the floor. The bathrooms were terrible, dirty, hair in the tub. Awful. The room itself was not bad, they provide with you a kitchen but our oven doesn't even work. We woke up everyday to people screaming in Spanish which was unpleasant. There is no sound-proofing at all. I like how their is a pin to enter the building it felt safe but honestly I'd never stay here again. I would rather pay more money for nice service. They didn't restock our towels, they didn't provide breakfast. They don't offer anything except a place to stay, no soap or shampoo. No towels to dry your hands. The place is dirty and all they do is scream in another language all morning. So rude, do they not realize people are sleeping? read more

The hotels website makes this place look like some Manhattan dream but we stayed there this past weekend and it was by far the worst hotel experience we have had. The room was dirty, there were crackers left on the floor and the table had grease marks and crumbs all over it, the iron didn't work, and the icing on the cake was when we found out that you have to share a bathroom and shower with the rest of the hotel there. You would think that since it was a communal bathroom they would keep up with it but there was hair in the shower and .. I won't get into other disgusting details but regardless .. don't stay at this hotel .. not worth the money spent whatsoever. read more

I really don't know how this place can even use the word "hotel" in its name. They rent out rooms and have a disgusting shared bathroom. Be prepared to walk up multiple levels of stairs. To get into the building and to get to whatever floor you're on. And the people on the floors below will get to listen to each footstep each person makes in this place. While I was taking a shower the water did not drain and I was standing in filth from who l knows how many people!! Meaning, the management did not clean the shower otherwise they would have known it wasn't draining! Gross!!!! They said, "Oh sorry no one told us". Gimmie a break!! Our portable radiator in our room gave out very little heat so we were freezing. No one told us there was another one in the room that worked. It looked old and out of commission. Not that we would have turned it on as it was right next to my bed and it very well could have caught on fire. We stayed only 1 night and they would not refund us our money for the other 3 nights--or even 1 night! Just give us some money back since your place was horrible. I would be embarrassed for a hotel booking site to keep this as an option for their customers. They need to be removed. read more

The building is a brownstone and you wouldn't be able to tell if it was A "hotel". Real discreet looking place. As soon as I got there the receptionist there had to open the lock. She greeted but was real upset with someone on the phone and began shouting near me. She asked a few questions. She took multiple pictures of my I.D and card number. Then I headed to my room. The room was small and the bed took up the most space. The bed kept creaking and I'm sure the entire building would be able to hear if a couple was getting it on. We had to wait For the bathroom which was shared among others there. When I got into the shower I noticed the water wouldn't fully drain and the shower curtains had some brown stains. Prior to getting out of the shower I nearly slip because the previous person left the whole floor wet. I also saw a water bug in the bathroom and I notice bloody tampon on the garbage bin. The only thing offered is liquid soap and towels. You have to pack all your necessities. The room had cable and the remote looked worn I could clearly tell the color faded throughout time and AC with small fridge. I would only recommend this as a last resort. Only good for short stay a day or two read more

This was, by far, the worst hotel experience I've ever had. We waited twenty minutes for the front desk girl to return from a break. The group before is had been there for another twenty. No apologies. An eye roll greeted us. They don't have wash cloths. The shared bathroom is miniscule. There were clothes off a previous guest left in our drawers. There was a hair in the bed. This is NOT a bed and breakfast, there is no charm... Nor breakfast. Pay the extra twenty for a real hotel where you're treated kindly. read more
