Oh Wow. I arrived in England just before the 100th anniversery of Remembarance Day. There were commemorations and a parade so that various groups, military, dignitaries, children could lay wreaths of poppies at the base of this memorial. Yes, it's an obelisk which isn't the most interesting thing to look at, but it represents the war dead of the UK after the first World War (between 750,000 and 890,000).
It was an honor to watch the solemnity of this parade and to see the growing mound of wreaths at its base. 100 years later, the populace remembers.... read more
